Statistical trends of rainfall (annual and seasonal rainfalls) in Kerala, India were characterised using the 44-years (1980–2023) data of Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) version 2. Monthly rainfall data were collected from the selected fifty locations which represent the state as a whole, and the collected data were then categorised into annual as well as seasonal (winter, summer, monsoon and post-monsoon) datasets based on the classification proposed by Indian Meteorological Organisation (IMD). Lag-1 autocorrelation, modified Mann Kendall (mMK), Pettitt test and Theil-Sen’s slope methods were used to determine the statistical characteristics of rainfalls in Kerala. Mean rainfalls were 3124 mm, 66 mm, 527 mm, 1667 mm and 862 mm, respectively, for annual, winter, summer, monsoon and post-monsoon periods. mMK based statistical trend analysis revealed an overall decreasing trend characteristics in annual (-0.54 mm.y⁻¹), monsoon (-1.20 mm.y⁻¹), and post-monsoon (-0.93 mm.y⁻¹) seasons whereas winter and summer rainfalls showed an increasing trend (0.67 mm.y⁻¹ and 3.40 mm.y⁻¹, respectively) for the state as a single unit. Pettitt test indicated four dominant periods of change in rainfall characteristics in the study area that spanned over the decades of 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010, in which major changes in annual and seasonal rainfalls were occurred during 1990’s, 2000’s and 2010’s. Theil-Sen’s slope-based estimation of rate of change in rainfall showed an average variation of -4.33 mm.y⁻¹, 0.17 mm.y⁻¹, 6.27 mm.y⁻¹, -6.54 mm.y⁻¹ and − 3.28 mm.y⁻¹ for annual, winter, summer, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, respectively. Dry-season sources of riverine sediment from the tropical mixed urban-agricultural watershed of the Mun River Basin in northeastern Thailand

Northeastern(NE) Thailand is well recognized as the land for rice cropping and consequently, it is potentially contaminated with chemicals from soil fertilization, pest/weed control, and urban *** Mun River basin in NE Thailand principally is comprised of rice paddies and sedimentation in the river has been pronounced, but the studies on sediment source identification are limited. The current study aims to identify sediment sources in the Mun River basin and discuss possible impacts on ecosystems attributed to exposure to polluted sediment. The assessment relies upon physicochemical properties and heavy metal contents(iron(Fe), manganese(Mn), copper(Cu), chromium(Cr), nickel(Ni),and Zinc(Zn)) in the fine-grained sediment(<63 μm) taken from the Mun River basin and the Chi River in the dry season of 2020-2021. The findings revealed that the heavy metals in the sediment had not accumulated to levels of concern. Most sediment was from natural sources, including Fe-and Mn-rich sediment, Cr-dominant sediment, and Ni-and Cu-rich sediment. Fe-and Zn-rich sediment was, however, found in the urban watershed of Lam Ta Klong, and it could originate from mixed urban sources. Ferich sediment was predominant in the Mun River basin, which and could be a significant sink and source of toxic elements from agricultural and urban discharges. It is suggested that the toxic compounds in the sediment should be consistently monitored, whereas ecological and health risk assessment should be focused on the mobile forms.

Mangrove is one of the most pivotal of coastal ecosystems. In this study, Kulonprogo coastal area is considered in the analysis of mangrove ecotourism management. Kulonprogo coastal area is located in the tsunami prone area. Due to rapid population growth, thousands of people are currently believed to be exposed to the danger of tsunami hazard, since they live in the proximity of southern coastal. It also implies that these people are potential victims, hence the existence of mangrove ecosystems can be used as tsunami barrier and reduce the impact when disaster strikes. In order to maintain the existence of mangroves and its important ecological functions, then it is crucial to have an appropriate conservation strategy for mangrove ecosystems as well as to integrate the conservation effort with the element of education and economic. Mangrove ecotourism is one of the best strategy to conserve mangrove, provide education as well as increase prosperity of the community. For this purpose, this study proposes an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as an effective platform to investigate the management strategy of mangrove ecotourism. Hierarchical synthesis is obtained from the process of weighting by paired comparison based on expert judgments. In-depth interview survey to key person in mangrove ecotourism was used in this study. There were several main elements of mangrove ecotourism in Jangkaran, Kulonprogo Regency, i.e. the potency of mangrove ecotourism;facilities and infrastructure of mangrove ecotourism;access to mangrove ecotourism locations and institutional management of mangrove ecotourism. The results showed that the highest and lowest value of main element were institutional management of mangrove ecotourism (0.36) and access to mangrove ecotourism locations (0.14). WetSpass model was applied in this study to simulate and visualize the distribution of groundwater recharge and amount of yearly and seasonal averages groundwater recharge during 2000-2017. The study area covers the Phanom Thuan-Song Phi Nong-Bang Len Operation and Maintenance Projects in western region of Thailand where groundwater has been used as an alternative source of water for irrigation and industrial sectors. The recharge rates performed by WetSpass model were consequently compared with those achieved by empirical relations namely;Chaturvedi Formula (CF), Sehgal Formula (SF), Krishna Rao Formula (KRF), and Bhattacharya Formula (BF). It was exhibited that average rate of yearly groundwater recharge for calibration periods during 2000-2010 was 178.05 mm/yr with RMSE, r2, and d of 48.72 mm, 0.78 and 0.66, respectively. However, average rate of groundwater recharge for validation periods during 2011-2017 was slightly increased which was 186.35 mm/yr with RMSE, r2, and d of 55.09 mm, 0.24 and 0.53, respectively. The simulation result obtained from WetSpass shows that the average annual recharges in the Phanom Thuan, Song Phi Nong, and Bang Len Operation and Maintenance Projects are 22.5%, 22.4%, and 14.8% of average annual rainfall, respectively according to the different soil types. The average groundwater recharges in clay, loam soil, and sandy loam soils are approximately 14.8%, 24.6%, and 25.7% of average annual rainfall, respectively. Moreover, groundwater recharges in dry and wet seasons are quantified as 12.0%, and 88.0% of average annual recharge due to seasonal variation of rainfall magnitudes. © 2020 22nd Congress of the International Association for Hydro-Environment engineering and Research-Asia Pacific Division, IAHR-APD 2020: "Creating Resilience to Water-Related Challenges". Most of the seismic damage of existing traditional buildings is due to the absence of practical beam and column structures as the main reinforcement of the building. While a masonry wall as a structural component is commonly negligible due to their relatively low strength in contributing to the frame structure. As a result, when the earthquake struck, the building collapsed, and the ruins of building elements hit the occupants seriously and caused many deaths. This paper presents the results of preliminary research on the experimental investigation of interlocking concrete block for the masonry wall applied to non-engineered earthquake-resistant buildings. The interlocking between concrete blocks is expected to contribute to the strength of the masonry wall in resisting the loads, either in-plane or out-of-plane directions. The novelty of this type of concrete block lies in the uniqueness of the interlocking shape, making it effective in withstanding the earthquake load. This research focuses on the testing of interlocking concrete block units in withstanding loads in the direction and perpendicular to the field and equipped with testing the compressive strength of the wall and diagonal shear strength. The results produce interlocking models of concrete block contribute to better strength than ordinary clay bricks for the masonry wall. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The paper aims at studying the effect of organic loading rate on the performance and degradation of a membrane bioreactor（MBR） treating textile wastewater,which contaminated Reactive Red 141 operated at organic loading rate 1 kg/m·*** the textile wastewater treatment by anaerobic *** of organic loading rate（OLR）,MBR at low OLR can operate longer than MBR at high *** of dissolved and colloid organic concentration accumulated on membrane *** causes external fouling,mainly membrane ***,MBR at 0.13-0.52 kg/m.d showed organic matter removal in BOD at 78.5-89.8%.MBR effluences remain few,readily biodegradable organic matters,and have similar organic matter removal because the membrane can collect enough microorganism within system to degrade organic matter.

A collaborative course called Global Awareness for Technology Implementation was conducted by the Faculty of engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. The objective of this course was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and experiences between Thai and Japanese students through project work, using an engineering design approach and the design thinking process to create innovation relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the class, experts shared their knowledge and experiences with the students. The students then worked on their respective projects to develop solution concepts using the design thinking process. The proposed ideas include the application for English class, smart water quality checker, hydrogen-based energy system for rural area, reduced wasted fashion solution, and auto waste sorting machine. Finally, this study concluded with a summary of the results and findings on the empathy process in the chosen SDGs, and of the commonalities and differences between Thailand and Japan in terms of ideation. © 2023 IEEE.

Estimating and tracing actual crop water demands during the growing season are necessarily essential as it can be the basic and useful information for achievement of irrigation water management and reservoir operation practices. The crop water demand (ETcrop) is commonly determined by multiplying the crop coefficient (Kc) and reference crop evapotranspiration (ETo) calculating from meteorological data at the nearby stations. In this study, the planting area and growth stage of crops in the Tortongdang, Wangbua, Wangyang and Nongkhwan Operation and Maintenance Projects, which are located in the Lower Ping River Basin, were tracked and crop coefficient was evaluated using weather based irrigation scheduling (IrriSAT) application for estimation of crop water requirement. IrriSAT provides the satellite images processing of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) of planting area of crop and uses empirical relationship to find Kc. Kc values of season and off-season crops planting in four irrigation area during 2000-2019 were traced by IrriSAT and the results were compared with average Kc-RID values which were calculated as a function of Kc from field observation for the different types of crop and accumulated area of crops monitored by the remote sensing. The results showed the similar patterns of average Kc over the growth stages of crops. However, the Kc values calculated by IrriSAT for four irrigation area were slightly deviated from Kc-RID values in some growing periods. Therefore, calibrating Kc values calculated by IrriSAT was then conducted in this study to estimate actual crop water use and benchmark with the filed observation data.
