The synthesis of natural polysaccharides from durian seed gum-modified chitosan as complex nanoparticles was successfully developed. The complex formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by 1H NMR, indicating the interpenetrating polymer network between the durian seed gum and chitosan. The material's physical properties were analyzed using ZETA potential, SEM, FTIR, swelling assay, and spectrofluorometer. The material showed a pH-responsive behavior as evidenced by the swelling assay, in which the complex nanoparticle has a smaller swelling index in pH 5.5 and 7.4 than pH 2.1. The stability of the material was tested by checking the hydrodynamic diameter, which resulted in the modification of chitosan having higher kinetic stability than the durian seed gum under a diameter smaller than 1 μm. The chitosan-modified durian seed gum's hemolytic activity indicates blood compatibility with 4 % hemolytic activity under high nanoparticle concentration (400 μg/mL). More importantly, the cytotoxicity test of complex nanoparticles showed biocompatibility with NIH/3 T3 cells, whereas complex nanoparticles exhibited high toxicity towards HeLa cells. Moreover, complex nanoparticles showed strong intracellular blue fluorescence with selective activity towards cancer cells. Hence, this newly developed green synthesis of polyelectrolyte nanoparticles derived from durian seed gum modified with chitosan improved selectivity and intracellular fluorescence in tracking cancer cells. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Material responses to static and dynamic stimuli, represented as nonlinear curves, are design targets for engineering functionalities like structural support, impact protection, and acoustic and photonic bandgaps. Three-dimensional metamaterials offer significant tunability due to their internal structure, yet existing methods struggle to capture their complex behavior-to-structure relationships. We present GraphMetaMat, a graph-based framework capable of designing three-dimensional metamaterials with programmable responses and arbitrary manufacturing constraints. Integrating graph networks, physics biases, reinforcement learning, and tree search, GraphMetaMat can target stress-strain curves spanning four orders of magnitude and complex behaviors, as well as viscoelastic transmission responses with varying attenuation gaps. GraphMetaMat can create cushioning materials for protective equipment and vibration-damping panels for electric vehicles, outperforming commercial materials, and enabling the automatic design of materials with on-demand functionalities. The impact of ciprofloxacin (CIP) in the partial nitrification and anammox biofilm system was investigated by multivariate analysis, focusing on size-fractionated organic components. The CIP dose of 10 μg/L did not inhibit the total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency, even though the abundance of antibiotic resistant genes (ARGs) (i.e., qnrD, qnrB, qnrA, qnrS, and arcA) was elevated. However, a gradual higher CIP dosing up to 100 μg/L inhibited the TN removal efficiency, while the abundance of ARGs was still increased. Moreover, both the TN removal efficiency and the abundant ARGs were dwindled at 470 μg/L of CIP. As the CIP dose increased from 0 to 100 μg/L, the abundance of high molecular weight (MW) fractions (14,000 to 87,000 Da;1000 to 14,000 Da) and humic/fulvic acid-like components in the soluble extracellular polymeric substances (HSS) decreased, with more increases of low MW (84–1000 Da;less than 84 Da) fractions and soluble microbial by-products in soluble extracellular polymeric substances (SMPS). Continuously increasing the CIP dose till 470 μg/L, an inverse trend of the changes of these organic components was noted, along with clear reductions of the microbial diversity and richness, and the abundance of key functional genes responsible for nitrogen removal. The predominance of functional gene amoA (related with ammonia oxidizing bacteria) was more significantly with more distribution of SMPS with relatively low MW and less distribution of HSS with relatively high MW, as well as polymer decomposing microorganisms such as Bryobacteraceae and the unclassified Saprospirales. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

As a synthetic polymer, polyethylene (PE) has wide applications as food packaging materials mainly due to appropriate physiochemical properties. However, PE lacks antimicrobial and antioxidant properties which are of importance for extending the shelf-life of food products. In the present study, PE films were laminated by either chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol composite (PC) layer or cumin essential oil-loaded PC layer (PCE). The physicochemical, mechanical, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties of modified PE films were investigated and compared with those of unmodified PE films (P) and chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol composite films (C). The results showed that PCE films had the lowest moisture content, thickness, and water vapor permeability and the highest antimicrobial (against E. coli and S. aureus) and antioxidant properties. The maximum tensile strength (95.81 MPa) was measured in film C. Samples P and PC revealed the highest elongation at break. The results of SEM and FT-IR confirmed the functionalization of PE films. The surface microstructure of samples P and PCE were smooth and free from holes. PCE films can be considered as a potential candidate for active food packaging applications. © 2024, The Authors. Enumerating virus particles (VPs) at different stages of the wastewater treatment process or along the distribution network is essential for ensuring high performance and reducing public health risks. Herein, we aimed to (i) optimize the flow virometry (FVM) protocol for use in wastewater matrices, (ii) correlate FVM data with specific virus genera of interest, and (iii) develop machine learning (ML) models for determining total VP concentration. We identified and tested a comprehensive set of parameters to determine the optimal conditions for wastewater FVM. Specifically, we tested various sample preprocessing steps to enhance FVM detection sensitivity, including the use of different nucleic acid staining dyes, surfactant addition and concentration optimization, glutaraldehyde fixation, and the effect of sample freezing before FVM analysis. Spearman's rank correlation of FVM data with virus genera concentration using a conventional qPCR-based method in 206 samples showed a positive correlation for all five virus genera, ranging from 0.21 to 0.44 (p © 2025 The Author(s)

Pekanbaru City, Riau Province, Indonesia is located at coordinates 0°25′29.20″-0°39′15.22″ N and 101°20′43.39″- 101°34′25.60″ E. This research aims to study the common causes of flooding in Pekanbaru city which has a good geological condition. This study uses two types of data as primary and secondary data in the form of geomorphological, geological, rainfall and land use data with a geographic information system (GIS) analysis that can help spatial analysis to determine the level of flood disaster vulnerability with visual mapping models. The geomorphological analysis shows 2 types of geomorphological units found: low-land denudational and low-land structural with river flow pattern consisting of dendritic, sub-dendritic and parallel. Rainfall is quite high in 2018 with 2621.5 mm and caused flood-prone areas which are divided into 3 categories: Non vulnerable area (64.575%), Medium Vulnerable area (23,386%) and Vulnerable area (12,039%) from the entire of the research area. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The growth of infrastructure development is currently increasing rapidly in Indonesia. Beside government policy trough their procurement in national, provincial and local level, it is also driven by private sector and per capita as of economic growing and increasing population. In the process physical development, several mixture of material such as stone, cement, sand, demolition material are often left over and discharge. Today Indonesia government will issued construction and demolition waste guideline to make more green and environmental sound. One of the basic problem founded was concerning to the development of model to estimated then monitored construction generation in rural, urban or in a strategic region. Moreover, in the era of digital as known as revolution industry 4.0, an automatic system of monitoring, known as smart monitoring of the construction waste generation is very importance to build. The purpose of this study was to build regional model of smart construction monitoring in Indonesia. The basic method to build the regional model is by utilized an index approach, and combined by using GIS to build automatic information delivery system from rural, urban or region to the central system. This study is then choosed Central Java Province for more detail model development. The study founded 7 (seven) pattern of construction waste generation. The extreme condition founded in Grobogan, Purworejo and Kebumen at which for decade 2000-2014 the degree is waste generation always decrease. In Addition, In central Java Province, this study founded three characteristic of regional model of construction waste as follow: (1) Region with high level of construction waste degree;(2) region with moderate level of construction waste degree;and (3) region with low level of construction waste degree. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Recently, Intention to accelerate SGDs achievement and also mitigate climate change impact concerning to regional health, increasing significantly. One of the regional health issues for those is concerning to impcat of plastic waste. Event though plastic is one of the principal materials in the regional market and industry, but then plastic waste arise to be principal problem for regional environmental health indicators since they linked living from land to coastal and to oceans. Many tons of plastic from land accounted enter to costal and or ocean then attack to all living thinks. Moreover they may be able to return to the land as microplastic consumed by fish. Today, quick respond to manage plastic waste have a high assosiation with effort to manage green food cycle as of covering basic regional food and cereal cycle. This study goal is to provide basic model for regional plastic waste degree monitoring. The model is developed by using "online" population data from regional statistical data and number of public market. GIS tools is used to degree of plastic waste in spatial map. For detail, Central Java Provice was then selected for model assessment. To monitor the plastic waste generation in spatial pattern, online data population for year 1990, 2000, 2010, 2018 and number of traditional market was utilized. The study calculated that the highest degree of plastic waste generation with population-base approach for year 2018 is located in Brebes Regency with estimated 161.53 Ton per day. Semarang city contributed 160.04 Ton per day and total plastic waste generation in Central Java is estimated 3, 090.38. According to the public market location, this study founded that Surakarta, Semarang, Pekalongan and Tegal clasify as high degree of plastic waste ggeneration. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

The widespread presence of microplastics (MP) in water represents an environmental problem, not only because of the harmful effects of their size and potential to vector other pollutants, but also because of the release of additives, degradation products and residues contained in the polymer matrix. The latter includes metallic catalysts, which are often overlooked. This study focuses on the photo-aging of polypropylene (PP) and the resulting structural changes that promote fragmentation to MPs and release of metals, as well as the resulting toxicity of leachates and their potential to inhibit biodegradation of organics in water. The pristine, photo-aged and waste PP are ground under the same regime to assess susceptibility to fragmentation. Obtained PP-MPs are submitted to leaching tests;the release of organics and metals is monitored by TOC and ICP-MS analysis, respectively. The leachates are assessed for their toxicity against Vibrio fischeri, Daphnia magna and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata and their influence on the biodegradability of the glucose solution. Photo-aging induced changes in the crystallinity and morphology of the PP and manifested in the abundance of smaller MPs, as revealed by the particle size distribution.
