The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii as an opportunistic pathogen in wound infections raises significant concerns due to its antibiotic resistance and biofilm-mediated antibiotic tolerance. This underscores the urgent need to explore an alternative approach to effectively managing wound infections caused by MDR A. baumannii. In this study, combining subinhibitory concentrations of curcumin (25 µg/ml) or chitosan (156 µg/ml) with photodynamic therapy-PDT (10 J/cm²) resulted in a significant reduction of planktonic viabilities and biofilm biovolume of MDR A. baumannii clinical isolates in vitro. In murine A. baumannii-associated wound infection, a combination of curcumin (25 µg/ml) or chitosan (156 µg/ml) with PDT (10 J/cm²) resulted in complete bacterial eradication with wound healing at Day 15 of post-treatments with these combination therapies. Our study demonstrated that combining curcumin or chitosan with PDT at their subinhibitory concentrations represents a promising alternative strategy as localized therapy for effectively managing A. baumannii-associated wound infection. © 2025 The Authors

Gross primary production (GPP) is a key indicator of plant growth and ecosystem health, and accurately capturing its diurnal variation is crucial for understanding vegetation responses to extreme heat and drought. However, the applicability of satellite-based semi-empirical models to diurnal GPP estimation remains limited. This study refined diurnal GPP estimation in humid temperate climates by leveraging Himawari-8/9 geostationary satellite data to incorporate direct/diffuse radiation and the nonlinear GPP response to diurnal variations in absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (APAR). The eddy covariance-light use efficiency (EC-LUE) model was employed by adopting three approaches: the direct/diffuse (DD) setting to consider the direct/diffuse components of APAR, DD with nonlinear relationship (DD-NL) setting to additionally consider the nonlinear GPP-APAR relationship, and the baseline setting. The model was calibrated and validated using the eddy-covariance tower observations from 18 sites across Japan and South Korea. The DD-NL setting improved accuracy by correcting the baseline's overestimation of GPP under high APAR and underestimation under low APAR. Particularly for forest sites, the DD-NL setting reduced midday overestimations by 12–30 % on clear-sky days and morning/afternoon underestimations by 25–40 % on cloudy days. In the baseline setting, low-APAR biases progressively accumulated across daily to annual timescales, whereas the DD-NL setting reduced them to −0.10 g C m −2 day −1 and -51 g C m −2 year −1 (−2.7 % of the site's average GPP). The DD setting had minimal impact in densely vegetated sites. Our findings show that the DD-NL setting in LUE models enhances geostationary satellite-based GPP estimates across diurnal to annual timescales, supporting ecosystem monitoring during extreme events and long-term carbon assessments.

The ASTM standard recommends that the 16 most common types of PAHs are found in petroleum processing activities, the chemical industry and marine loading ports. This research aims to identify and determine the distribution of PAHs contaminants at three sampling points of seawater around Paotere Port, Makassar, South Sulawesi, using the GC-MS instrument. Sampling point A is the center of Paotere Port activity, Point B with a radius of 3 km and point C with a radius of 6 km from the center of port activity. Sampling at each point was carry out at a depth of 100 cm above sea level. There are 10 PAHs identified at sampling point A and B, while at point C there are 8 components with relatively the same type of PAHs. The dominant PAHs components at each sampling point are relatively the same, namely at point A: Pyrene, Chrysene, Benz[a]pyrene and Dibenz(a,h)anthracene, point B: Pyrene, Chrysene and Benz(a)anthtracene, while at point C only Pyrene. The total concentration of PAHs at point A: 4,217±.106 ppm, medium polluted category, at point B: 2,124±.087 ppm, medium polluted category and at point C: 1,264±. 112 ppm, light polluted category.

The purpose of this research is to know public perception of biogas users in Jetak Village, Semarang Regency viewed from technological aspect, technical (biogas installation), biogas benefit, economy and environment. The method used qualitative descriptive with qualitative descriptive approach. The technique of determining key informants was done by purposive sampling. Data were obtained from cattle ranchers who lived in the study sites through interviews, observation and documentation. The result of this research is overall the perception about biogas energy get a positive response from user society. However, there are some things that should be considered for the government and others in providing assistance that is necessary to consider the evaluation and monitoring periodically so that the constraints experienced by the user community can be known early and can be found right solutions. In addition, the sustainability of the use of biogas energy can be done from generation to generation not just the aid which in the end becomes only useless materials.

In present study, a simultaneous electrospinning and electrospraying（SEE） process was employed to produce microclusters of TiO2 nanoparticles and interlock them in nanofibrous network. The photocatalytic composite membranes（PCMs） were fabricated by electrospraying TiO2 nanoparticle suspension into microcluster form that dispersed and entrapped within nylon-6 electrospun fiber membrane. Three PCMs membrane with TiO2 content of 52.0, 83.6,and 91.7 wt.% were successfully fabricated. The membrane consisted of TiO2 microclusters,ranging in sizes from around 0.3 to 10 μm, distributed uniformly within the nylon-6 nanofibrous network. PCMs photocatalytic activity against Methylene Blue（MB） in aqueous solution showed more than 98% MB removal efficiency after 120 min of photocatalytic oxidation（PCO） for all PCMs. For PCM with the highest TiO2 content tested for 5 PCO cycles, it was found that most of their TiO2 content remained incorporated within the nanofibrous structure. The concept of nanoparticles clusters entrapment with SEE fabrication employed here provide a simple and effective method for reducing detachment of nanostructure phase from nanocomposite membrane.

We here present the results of 0.1 pc-scale observations in 250 and 350 GHz towards a newly-discovered hot molecular core in a nearby low-metallicity galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array. A variety of C/N/O/Si/S-bearing molecules are detected towards the high-mass young stellar object, ST16. A rotating protostellar envelope is for the first time detected outside our Galaxy by SO2 and 34SO lines. An outflow cavity is traced by CCH and CN. The isotope abundance of sulfur in the source is estimated to be 32S/34S = 17 and 32S/33S = 53 based on SO, SO2, and CS isotopologues, suggesting that both 34S and 33S are overabundant in the LMC. Rotation diagram analyses show that the source is associated with hot gas (>100 K) traced by high-excitation lines of CH3OH and SO2, as well as warm gas (∼50 K) traced by CH3OH, SO2, 34SO, OCS, CH3CN lines. A comparison of molecular abundances between LMC and Galactic hot cores suggests that organic molecules (e.g., CH3OH, a classical hot core tracer) show a large abundance variation in low metallicity, where the present source is classified into an organic-poor hot core. Our astrochemical simulations suggest that different grain temperature during the initial ice-forming stage would contribute to the chemical differentiation. In contrast, SO2 shows similar abundances within all the known LMC hot cores and the typical abundance roughly scales with the LMC's metallicity. Nitrogen-bearing molecules are generally less abundant in the LMC hot cores, except for NO. The present results suggest that chemical compositions of hot cores do not always simply scale with the metallicity. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Huge amounts of sludge are produced daily from municipal wastewater treatment plants. These solid organic wastes produce active ash after complete combustion which can be used in many applications. This study explores different adsorption and kinetic models that can describe the adsorption process of chemical oxygen demand (COD) into entrapped sewage sludge ash in alginate biopolymer (AG/SSA) and implementation of the obtained result in original domestic wastewater sample. The AG/SSA and stander COD solution were prepared in the laboratory. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) was used for SSA characterization. The effect of AG/SSA on COD removal was studied at different absorbent dose, contact time, stirring rate, pH, and initial COD concentration. The results indicated that AG/SSA is effective in the removal of COD from aqueous solution, where removal efficiencies of 61 and 91% were achieved for 800 and 100 mg/L initial COD concentration, respectively, after 60 min of contact time using dose 8 g/L at pH 5 with fixed stirring rate 200 rpm. The equilibrium isotherm of COD was determined using Freundlich, Langmuir, Koble-Corrigan, Toth, Hill, Khan, Redlich and Elovich models. The kinetic adsorption of COD onto AG/SSA was determined by Avramin, pseudo first order, Intraparticulate, and pseudo second order models. The adsorption data of COD fitted well to Redlich-Peterson model with lowest summation of error of 1.671 and Avramin kinetic model with lowest summation of error of 1.669. Artificial neural network (ANN) with a structure of 5-10-1 was used to predict the COD removal efficiency. The proposed ANN was found to be effective in simulating the performance of AG/SSA for COD removal, where a high r2-value was recorded to be 0.9925, 0.9996, and 0.9997 for training, validation and test plots, respectively. © 2017 AIChE. Lead (Pb) were toxic. Lead found in pipes, batteries, paint, dyes ceramic glaze, gasoline, and final waste disposal. The robusta coffee grouds residues had high carbon, nitrogen etc which can adsorb heavy metal. The purpose of this study is to analyze the robusta coffee grounds residues to adsorb the Pb in the water. The method of this research is a True Experimental using completely randomized design (CRD) method. There were control groups (C) and three treatments groups (T1;T2;T3;5gram/litre;8gram/litre;10gram/litre) with six repetitions. The robusta coffee ground residues were contacted for 2 hours. Total samples were 24 samples which analyzed each parameter of the Pb with Atomic Adsorption Spectophotometry Analysis. The results showed that the more coffee ground residues that are exposed, increasingly turbid. The KS test showed that data were a normal distribution (sig = 0,324). One way ANOVA test;Turkey post Hoc showed that there was sig difference between the control and treatment (F = 4,326, Sig = 0,017). There were sig difference between control and treatment 2 and 3 (Sig = 0,019;Sig = 0,038). Robusta coffee grounds residues can reuse to adsorb the Pb pollution in the water. It can be a solution for treating the lead pollution in the water because of it easy to the application. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
