The current study explores computational models developed using the improved Scarf potential and harmonic oscillator to simulate vibrational modes in nonlinear polyatomic systems. These models are derived from the partition functions of the system and are designed to predict molar Gibbs free energy, entropy, enthalpy, and heat capacity. The models are applied to nonlinear polyatomic molecules, including aluminum chloride (AlCl2), boron difluoride (BF2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2). For Gibbs free energy and entropy, the equations yield a mean percentage relative error (MPRE) of no more than 0.09% compared to NIST data. Furthermore, using the heat capacity expression, MPRE values of 0.968%, 1.035%, and 2.764% are obtained for AlCl2, BF2, and SO2, respectively. Water quality indices (WQI) using STORET method has been used to assess rainwater quality in the Bandung urban regions, based on monitoring data at three locations (Coblong, Sumur Bandung, and Buah Batu). Rainwater samples were analyzed by detecting pH, SO42-, NO3-, Cl-, and heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Pb, and Zn) compared with Indonesian Government Regulation No. 82 Year 2001. Rainwater quality showed polluted based on the parameters of the water quality indices analysis using the Class I and Class II criteria. Rainwater quality in Bandung urban region were lightly polluted (Coblong) and moderately polluted (Sumur Bandung and Buah Batu). Rainwater can potentially become a water sources alternative for domestic use and urban farming in Bandung urban region, but it requires further treatment for better quality. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This review demonstrates a comparative study of methylene blue (MB) dye removal from aqueous solutions using zero-valent iron (nZVI) and zero-valent aluminum (nZVAl) nanoparticles. The results indicated that at pH 6, nZVI dosage 10 g/L, initial MB concentration 10 mg/L, temperature 30 °C, and stirring rate 150 rpm, the equilibrium time was 30 min achieving a removal efficiency of approximately 100% for nZVI. While for nZVAl, the results indicated that at an initial MB concentration of 10 mg/L, pH 10, nZVAl dosage 1.0 g/L, stirring rate 200 rpm, and temperature 30 °C, the removal efficiency of approximately 99.0% was achieved within an equilibrium time of 90 min. Moreover, the adsorption data of MB fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm model (R2: 0.9358) and pseudo-second-order kinetic model (R2: 0.9976) for adsorption by nZVI. Also, the isotherm adsorption data were best fitted by the Freundlich isotherm model (R2: 0.9569), while the kinetic data were well described by the pseudo-second-order model (R2: 0.9999) for adsorption by nZVAl. From the aforementioned results, it is clear that both nZVI and nZVAl showed very high efficiency in removing methylene blue from aqueous solutions with a slight difference in favor of nZVI. © 2023 American Institute of Chemical Engineers. In this paper, an efficient method to characterize the mode II fracture toughness KIIC for materials with preferred interfaces such as wood, fiber composite materials and bonded materials based on the Iosipescu fixture is developed. A simple formula for calculating KIIC is verified numerically. Our method is easy to implement and is free of friction thereby offering a more reasonable value of KIIC than previous methods. A calibration chart for composite materials is generated. Finite element analysis along with cohesive elements is used to validate experimental load-displacement curves by testing bonded polymers.

An integrated experimental and numerical analysis is carried out to study the interfacial shear strength of bonded materials. Two types of shear tests, namely the losipescu shear test, and the short-beam shear test are employed to understand the effect of interfacial stress on the interfacial shear strength measurements. The measured average shear strengths are very close, even though the interfacial shear stress distributions of these two kinds of specimens are very different. Therefore, we conclude that the interfacial stress distribution has the least effect on the interfacial strength measurement if the interfacial shear stress is non-singular. © Society for Experimental Mechanics 2009.

Pretreatment during biogas production aims to assist in degradation of lignin contained in the rice husk. In this study, pretreatment which is used are acid and biological pretreatment. Acid pretreatment was performed using acetic acid and nitric acid with a variety levels of 3% and 5%. While biological pretreatment as a control variable. Acid pretreatment was conducted by soaking the rice straw for 24 hours with acid variation. The study was conducted using Solid State Anaerobic Digestion (SS-AD) with 21% TS. Biogas production was measured using water displacement method every two days for 60 days at room temperature conditions. The results showed that acid pretreatment gave an effect on the production of biogas yield. The yield of the biogas produced by pretreatment of acetic acid of 5% and 3% was 43.28 and 45.86 ml/***. While the results without pretreatment biogas yield was 29.51 ml/***. The results yield biogas produced by pretreatment using nitric acid of 5% and 3% was 12.14 ml/*** and 21.85 ml/***. Results biogas yield with acetic acid pretreatment was better than the biogas yield results with nitric acid pretreatment. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

This paper presents a novel interval type-2 fuzzy logic control architecture for flocking system when the system has noisy sensor measurements. The traditional type-1 fuzzy logic controller (FLC) using precise fuzzy sets cannot fully model and handle the uncertainties of sensor data. However, type-2 FLC using type-2 fuzzy sets with a footprint of uncertainty (FOU) produce better performances under noisy environments. In this paper, therefore, we present a control architecture for flocking behavior that is based on interval type-2 FLC to implement the flocking behaviors of separation, obstacle avoidance, and velocity matching. The type-2 based control system could cope with the uncertainties of noisy sensor measurements and resulted in good performances that outperformed the type-1 FLC. © 2011 IEEE.

对氢气的多种制造途径加以探讨,也涉及到氢能的利用、燃料电池以及二氧化碳的减排。需要指出的是氢气并非能源,而只是能量的载体。所以氢能的发展首先需要制造氢气。对于以化石燃料为基础的制氢过程,如煤的气化和天然气重整,需要开发更经济和环境友好的新过程,在这些新过程中要同时考虑二氧化碳的有效收集和利用问题。对于煤和生物质,在此提出了一种值得进一步深入研究的富一氧化碳气化制氢的概念。对于以氢为原料的质子交换膜燃料电池系统,必须严格控制制备的氢气中的一氧化碳和硫化氢;对于以烃类为原料的固体氧化物燃料电池,制备的合成气中的硫也需严格控制。然而,传统的脱硫方法并不适宜于这种用于燃料电池的极高深度的氢气和合成气的脱硫。氢能和燃料电池的发展是与控制二氧化碳排放紧密相关的。

Concrete is a porous material which has the ability to hold moisture stably inside. Since moisture is closely related to the deterioration of concrete structures, it is important to understand the moisture transfer in concrete in order to maintain the concrete structure appropriately. The electrical resistance method is one of non-destructive methods to investigate the moisture in concrete and the moisture transfer can be assessed with time by using one specimen. However, the electrical resistance may be affected by mineral admixtures in concrete. Although previous studies on the effects of mineral admixtures on the electrical resistance have been conducted, there are still many unclear points. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the applicability of the electrical resistance method to moisture transfer measurement in paste containing mineral admixtures by focusing on the moisture transfer in the drying process. The moisture transfer in the hardened cement paste using fly ash and blast furnace slag with water-to-binder ratios of 0.35 and 0.55 was investigated by the electrical resistance method. Stainless steel rods of 0.9 mm in diameter were placed at an interval of 4 mm in the specimen. The calibration test was also conducted to obtain the relationship between the electrical resistivity and the internal relative humidity of the specimen. The result showed that the specific resistance of the specimen containing mineral admixtures was higher than that of the specimen without mineral admixtures. It was observed that at the drying period of 70 days, the internal relative humidity at a depth of 4 mm from the exposed surface was almost the same as the surrounding relative humidity. It is possible to know the change in the internal relative humidity distribution in the cement paste using mineral admixtures during the drying process by performing the calibration test appropriately. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore P
