Scientific evidence exists about the association between neurological diseases (i.e., Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis, depression, and memory loss) and oxidative damage. The increasing worldwide incidence of such diseases is attracting the attention of researchers to find palliative medications to reduce the symptoms and promote quality of life, in particular, in developing countries, e.g., South America and Africa. Among potential alternatives, extracts of L. are suitable for people who have neurological disorders, spasticity, and pain, nausea, resulting from diseases such as cancer and arthritis. In this review, we discuss the latest developments in the use of Cannabis, its subtypes and constituents, extraction methods, and relevant pharmacological effects. Biomedical applications, marketed products, and prospects for the worldwide use of L. extracts are also discussed, providing the bibliometric maps of scientific literature published in representative countries from South America (i.e., Brazil) and Africa (i.e., South Africa). A lack of evidence on the effectiveness and safety of Cannabis, besides the concerns about addiction and other adverse events, has led many countries to act with caution before changing Cannabis-related regulations. Recent findings are expected to increase the social acceptance of Cannabis, while new technologies seem to boost the global cannabis market because the benefits of (-)-trans-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) use have been proven in several studies in addition to the potential to general new employment.

The concept of a lithiophilic electrode proves inadequate in describing carbon-based electrode materials due to their substantial mismatch in surface energy with lithium metal. However, their notable capacity for lithium chemisorption can increase active lithium concentration required for nucleation and growth, thereby enhancing the electrochemical performance of lithium metal anodes (LMAs). In this study, we elucidate the effects of the supersaturated electrode which has high active lithium capacity around equilibrium lithium potential on LMAs through an in-depth electrochemical comparison using two distinct carbon electrode platforms with differing carbon structures but similar two-dimensional morphologies. In the supersaturated electrode, both the dynamics and thermodynamic states involved in lithium nucleation and growth mechanisms are significantly improved, particularly under continuous current supply conditions. Furthermore, the chemical structures of the solid-electrolyte-interface layers (SEIs) are greatly influenced by the elevated surface lithium concentration environment, resulting in the formation of more conductive lithium-rich SEI layers. The improved dynamics and thermodynamics of surface lithium, coupled with the formation of enhanced SEI layers, contribute to higher power capabilities, enhanced Coulombic efficiencies, and improved cycling performances of LMAs. These results provide new insight into understanding the enhancements in heterogeneous lithium nucleation and growth kinetics on the supersaturated electrode.

The Prospect of Geotourism in the Cycloop Mountains Conservation Area Papua

The Cycloop mountains in Papua are a nature reserve conservation area that has diverse geology, biology and culture. This paper discusses the prospects of geotourism in Cycloop mountains based on a method of analyzing the community acceptability and tourists preferences, likewise the geosite attraction and geotourism sustainability. The results of analysis indicates that a) village communities in surrounding conservation area accept and wish to get involved in natural activities; b) local tourists are very dominant and motivated on outdoor recreation in groups; c) identified geosites has classified as from Quite Interesting to Interesting based on the index of attractiveness; and d) geotourism activity in the mountains Cycloop is categorized Quite Sustainable reviewed from the environment, society, economy and governance dimension. The exploration and the geological conservation to be the reliable activities in organizing the geotourism. Geotourism is likely to be applied to the conservation area as a form of implementation of the sustainable tourism concept.

A facile strategy for the preparation of end-capped and cross-linkable poly(propylene carbonate) with high performance

Itaconic anhydride (IAn) was firstly used for the modification of poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) by solution blending following with the direct heating treatment, producing end-capped and cross-linkable PPC (PECPPC) with high performance. The reaction of PPC with IAn was detailed investigated and the structure of PECPPC was identified by FTIR and 1H NMR. A facile strategy including end-capping and cross-linking can be developed to improve the performance of PPC. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurements revealed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature (Td) of PECPPCs are all much higher than those of PPC and increased with the increasing content of IAn. Tensile tests also showed the huge enhancement on the mechanical properties of PPC with the end-capping and cross-linking techniques, and the highest tensile strength of PECPPC4 is 37.5 MPa. Furthermore, ECPPC4 exhibits high hydrolysis rate in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) than that of PPC. It is demonstrated that the strategy with the combination of end-capping and cross-linking is efficient for the perfect modification of PPC with IAn. © 2019 Kingfa SCI. & TECH. CO., LTD.

Four feedstocks, corncob, coconut shell, coconut husk, and rice straw, were selected to produce biochar using a 200L oil drum kiln, and a pyrolysis reactor with gasification at 500 oC in Thailand. Coconut shell, coconut husk and rice straw also sent to the United Kingdom for biochar production by pyrolysis under well-controlled temperature conditions of 550 oC and 750 oC. From the results of proximate analysis, it was found that the production of biochar with pyrolysis reactors gave higher fixed carbon and lower volatile matter content than biochar produced with the 200L oil drum kiln. The relationship between O/C and H/C ratios showed that biochar from coconut shell produced by the pyrolysis at 750 oC in the United Kingdom had the highest stability and would decompose slowly. Fire is a major type of disturbance that has important influences on ecosystem dynamics and carbon *** our understanding of ecosystem fires and their carbon cycle consequences is still limited,largely due to the difficulty of large-scale fire monitoring and the complex interactions between fire,vegetation,climate,and anthropogenic ***,using data from satellite-derived fire observations and ecosystem model simulations,we performed a comprehensive investigation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of China’s ecosystem fire disturbances and their carbon emissions over the past two decades(1997–2016).Satellite-derived results showed that on average about 3.47-4.53×10^(4) km^(2) of the land was burned annually during the past two decades,among which annual burned forest area was about 0.81-1.25×10^(4) km^(2),accounting for 0.33-0.51%of the forest area in *** burning emitted about 23.02 TgC per *** to satellite products,simulations from the Energy Exascale Earth System Land Model(ELM)strongly overestimated China’s burned area and fire-induced carbon *** burned area and fire-induced carbon emissions were high for boreal forest in Northeast China’s Daxing’anling region and subtropical dry forest in South Yunnan,as revealed by both the satellite product and the model *** results suggest that climate and anthropogenic factors play critical roles in controlling the spatial and seasonal distribution of China’s ecosystem fire *** findings highlight the importance of multiple complementary approaches in assessing ecosystem fire disturbance and its carbon *** studies are required to improve the methods of observing and modelling China’s ecosystem fire disturbances,which will provide valuable information for fire management and ecosystem sustainability in an era when both human activities and the natural environment are rapidly changing.

Firefighters are routinely exposed to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) during fire suppression activities, molecular biomarkers reflecting such exposure remain underexplored. Thus, we explored an integrated exposure assessment framework linking PAH contamination on turnout gear and skin to changes in microRNA (miRNA) expression in skin and blood biospecimens. Our goals are to evaluate the relationship between fire-related PAH exposure and miRNA expression profiles in firefighters, and to identify candidate miRNA biomarkers of occupational exposure. This prospective study enrolled 25 firefighters. PAHs on turnout gear and skin were quantified post-fire using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Concurrently, skin tape strips and blood were collected and analyzed for miRNA expression using NanoString’s nCounter platform. Bioinformatic analyses, including differential expression, pathway enrichment, and network modeling, were performed to evaluate PAH-associated miRNA dynamics. The Glu-D1 locus of the Aegilops tauschii genome carries two high-molecular-weight glutenin genes, Dx and Dy , that are essential for viscoelastic properties of bread wheat dough, contributing to its success as a global staple crop. Here, we examined 48 Ae. tauschii high-quality genome assembles and identified a large dataset of Glu-D1 , a locus that has remained recalcitrant to high-resolution analysis due to its genomic complexity. Phylogenetic analysis supported six major clades, slightly differing from the geography-based classification. Despite a short genomic distance, gene-based haplotype analysis detected possible ancestral recombination between Dx and Dy genes that were separated by distinctive repetitive sequences. Biochemically, glutenins of the same length can vary in isoelectric points, causing deviations in migration on traditional SDS-PAGE gels. Differential selection pressures were detected among clades and between Dx and Dy glutenin genes. Two clades, L2E-1 and L2W-2, with relatively lower coeliac motifs, were identified as the most probable ancestral contributors to bread wheat. Furthermore, key amino acids were identified as conceptually suitable for single-base editing to create novel elite alleles. Dissecting genomic diversity of the Glu-D1 loci deepens our understanding of the evolutionary trajectory of these long-studied seed storage proteins and offers new strategies for wheat grain-quality improvement.

Tengkawang is one of the commodities of non-timber forest products which has been a life of support for people around the forest. Seeds produced by Tengkawang trees are one of the export commodities. However, unfortunately, the process of exporting Tengkawang seeds abroad often requires a long time to reduce the quality of the Tengkawang seeds. Processing of Tengkawang seeds into oil is a solution to the decline in quality of Tengkawang seeds. Like standard crude vegetable oil, Tengkawang oil also contains impurities. Therefore, a purification process to remove these impurities is needed. This research was conducted to produce purified Tengkawang fat optimally. Purification stages include degumming, neutralization and bleaching. This research will focus on the simulation of purified Tengkawang fat production. In this case, the simulation is carried out as an estimator of the feasibility value roughly whether a fat purification plant can be realized or not.
