Koto Tinggi is one of the vulnerable soil movement areas in Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The steep slope condition is one of the main causes in this area, coupled with inappropriate land use. The construction of settlements on steep cliff slopes increases the risk of landslides that can cause property and life loss, especially Lima Puluh Kota Regency is a developing district. The availability of complete and accurate information on the vulnerability zones of soil movement is very necessary to prevent and minimize the loss of life and economic impacts. This research was conducted with the aim of the geological factors combined with the Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System used to determine the influence of soil control factors and the development of the vulnerability of soil movement.

environmental impacts of small scale industries are still not well investigated, especially for estates where multiple small scale industries are clustered causing cumulative effects potentially impacting most vulnerable groups. This study aimed to investigate the concentrations of heavy metals (Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Pb, Al, Zn, and Cr) and the metalloid (As) in surface soils near the intensely active small-scale industrial area in Thailand, assess the contamination levels in the co-located child care center, and estimate potential human health risks from exposure to the heavy metals. Surface soil heavy metal(loid) elements were evaluated across a background area, area near main roads, a small-scale industrial area, and a child care centre. The concentrations of Al were found be the highest at all investigation sites, with the most elevated concentrations observed in the small-scale industrial area. The concentration of Pb in the industrial area reached 1176 mg/kg, exceeding the national standard and acceptable limit. Moreover, the contamination level for Cu, Pb, and Zn in the industrial area imply a considerable risk with enrichment factor EF > 40, and geo-accumulation index Igeo ≥5. Heavy metal levels (Ni, Cu, Pb) in the soil near the road and the child care center were similar, suggesting shared contamination sources. Conversely, Al, Zn, As, and Cr in the child care center had slightly higher concentrations than near the road but lower than the small-scale industrial area, indicating potential industrial influence on metal levels within the child care center. The principal component analysis showed Mn and Fe distributed in the background, while As, Pb, Ni, Cu, Al, Zn, and Cr accumulated in the small-scale industrial area. The findings indicate that small-scale industrial activities contribute to elevated levels of heavy metals in the soil, particularly within the child care center, posing significant ingestion risks, especially for children (HI > 1). Spatio-Temporal Change of Habitat Quality in Northeast China: Driving Factors Exploration Based on Land Use and Land Cover Change

Although the ecological environment plays an indispensable role in sustaining and developing human society and natural ecosystems, it continually suffers from degradation caused by human activities. Land Use and Land Cover (LULC), which serves as a proxy of the intensity for human intervention, has been regarded as an equally important factor affecting habitat quality as climate change. Therefore, exploring the close relationship between LULC and habitat quality change would provide a scientific basis for ecological conservation and land use. In this study, taking Northeast China with prominent contradiction between LULC and ecological protection as the study area, the InVEST model was introduced to assess the habitat quality based on LULC data from 2000 to 2020. And then, the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model was employed to analyze the explanatory variables of habitat quality change in terms of LULC change. The results indicated that LULC change in Northeast China from 2000 to 2020 mainly occurred between cultivated land, artificial land, grassland, and forestland. Habitat quality demonstrated a progressive decline yet remained at an intermediate level, and exhibited significant spatio-temporal heterogeneity on the whole. Furthermore, the regression results demonstrated there was a significant correlation between LULC change and habitat quality change. Finally, Northeast China was classified into three functional zones by the K-Means clustering analysis: the coordinated development zone, ecological conservation zone and key ecological functional zone, each with its own characteristics and development priorities. The findings can provide a scientific reference for the rational use of land and zoning management of habitat quality in Northeast China. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A facile and rapid microwave synthesis method was used to make Co/Ni-carbon black (CB) nanocomposites. Several sophisticated techniques confirm the formation and the effects of carbon nanoparticles incorporated into Co/Ni-CB composites. Carbon engrafted Co/Ni composite demonstrates excellent morphology, more significant area, and higher conductive region, thus improving electrode/electrolyte accessibility to enhance electrochemical kinetics. The interaction and combination of CB with Co/Ni composite shows excellent capacitive behavior, assessed by galvanostatic discharge method, cyclic voltage voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. CB plays a crucial role in stimulating the formation of robust structures, surface activity, and specific capacitance through enhancing electron transport and catalytic properties. This electrode material (NX3) has the highest specific capacitance of 748 Fg−1 at scan rates of 5 mVs−1 and was found to have excellent cycle stability (92.8%) over 5000 cycles. Solid-state supercapacitors fabricated from developed electrodes are highly effective for brightening LEDs. In this study, we demonstrated for the first time a single-step technique that is both quick and efficient for the synthesis of Co/Ni-carbon black heterostructure by using microwave irradiation. The present work suggests that low-cost electrodes can be used in a wide range of future energy storage systems as a potential hybrid material. © 2022

Inflatable structures have attracted considerable research attention in many fields owing to their numerous advantages, such as being light and able to engage in interactions safely. However, in most cases, the inflatable structure can only have one stable configuration, which is undesirable for robotic arms. This study proposes a novel inflatable structure that can be easily reconfigured into multiple stable configurations, even with single-body inflation. In the proposed mechanism, the structure length can be freely adjusted, and its respective joints can be set in the desired directions to facilitate the reconfiguration of its pose. An additional advantage of the proposed mechanism is that it can withstand external forces as well as its own weight. This study analyzes and experimentally validates the shape locking and load-carrying properties of the proposed mechanism. Further, the fabrication process and design guidelines for the proposed mechanism are presented. Through a suitable demonstration, the proposed mechanism is shown to exhibit multiple stable configurations and lock its poses.

The air quality in Taiwan is significantly impacted by ambient ozone (O3) pollution, which poses a challenge in terms of control due to the involvement of precursors and influencing factors in its photochemical process. This review investigates the measures that have been implemented in Taiwan over the past two decades to address this issue and evaluate their effectiveness in reducing O3 concentrations. Furthermore, it highlights relevant studies that have employed advanced methods to examine the O3 problem. Comprehending the complex formation of O3 and its driving factors is crucial in efficiently managing O3 pollution. Nevertheless, accurately quantifying the impacts of these factors can be challenging due to their interconnections. To bridge this gap in knowledge, conducting a robust causality analysis becomes imperative to accurately quantify the causal influence of major factors. Furthermore, eliminating seasonal variations can improve the precision and accuracy of trend analyses concerning long-term changes in O3 concentrations. Deep learning, in particular, holds significant advantages in predicting O3 concentrations as it can capture non-linear and long-term memory characteristics effectively. In summary, attaining acceptable O3 levels in Taiwan is challenging due to its geographical location, which makes it susceptible to air pollution from both local sources as well as distant upwind areas. The utilization of advanced methods is essential for comprehensively studying the evolution of O3 and formulating effective mitigation measures. While there is a necessity to develop new analytical methods, implementing existing robust methodologies can also provide valuable insights into the dynamics and impacts of O3. By leveraging these approaches, we can enhance our comprehension of O3 pollution in Taiwan and develop effective strategies to mitigate its harmful effects on air quality.

The present paper proposes a novel strategy to enhance admittance-type haptic interaction using bidirectional time-domain passivity control. While admittance-type haptic interaction is widely employed in human-robot collaboration, its ability to render low virtual inertia can be limited, leading to unstable interactions with rigid environments. The proposed strategy seeks to stabilize a lower range of virtual inertia while maintaining responsive behavior in free space. The Franka Emika Collaborative robot was utilized in various experiments to test the approach, and the results indicate that the bidirectional time-domain passivity controller can improve interaction performance relative to the conventional unidirectional time-domain passivity approach. This technique may aid in reducing operator fatigue during the manipulation of heavy, non-back drivable industrial robots while preserving a lightweight feel.
