The machine learning approach to estimate human activity using smartphone sensor data is challenging. In this work, a Human Activity Recognition (HAR) approach is conducted based on the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model, which can recognize six different behaviors: Downstairs, Jogging, Sitting, Standing, Upstairs, and Walking. To achieve the best potential result, various machine learning and statistical approaches were explored. The LSTM model, known for its effectiveness in sequence prediction, was chosen for its ability to run efficiently on lightweight edge devices such as smartphones. This model achieved a test accuracy of 97%. Finally, the model was exported and deployed in an Android application, providing a user-friendly interface.

In IoT systems managing multiple devices simultaneously, errors in system controllers often undermine intended operations. Formal verification offers a method to assess system reliability. Colored Generalized Stochastic Petri Net (CGSPN), a formal language, facilitate correctness checks of such systems. This study proposes a verification approach by translating a C++-based system controller of a self-service machine into a CGSPN models and validating it using the Snoopy Tool. Mapping techniques employed to transform components in the controller into CGSPN models are provided. Results demonstrate the method’s efficacy in verifying system safety properties, simulating system events, and enabling quantitative verification.

Victor Hugo’s timeless observation, ‘Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come’, resonates today as Quantum Computing, once only a dream of a physicist, stands at the threshold of reality with the potential to revolutionise the world. To comprehend the surge of attention it commands today, one must delve into the motivations that birthed and nurtured Quantum Computing. While the past of Quantum Computing provides insights into the present, the future could unfold through the lens of Quantum software engineering. Quantum software engineering, guided by its principles and methodologies investigates the most effective ways to interact with Quantum computers to unlock their true potential and usher in a new era of possibilities. To gain insight into the present landscape and anticipate the trajectory of Quantum Computing and Quantum software engineering, this paper embarks on a journey through their evolution and outlines potential directions for future research. During the application development process, it is important for a developer to analyze user requirements. This is crucial to the success of interactive systems and is an essential component of the design of information systems. User requirement analysis aids developers in understanding and analyzing users' needs and technology requirements. Throughout this case study, it is able to forecast the understanding, and technology acceptance, and at the same time improve the quality of work, reducing training and support costing and perennially improve customer or user satisfaction. The method of research selected is questionnaires that focused on collecting the data directly from Malaysian farmers through Google Forms as an online medium. The method was chosen because it is easy to implement and inexpensive due to the current situation of Covid-19. The questionnaire is designed with two sections where;a) includes the participant's demography to analyze information of the intended audience while b)focused on the knowledge of participants about recognition images. Results demonstrate the farmer's opinion and knowledge of the technology of image recognition in the agriculture sector. The quantitative research was undertaken using an online platform due to the Covid-19 pandemic. From the analysis, it is justified that the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) together with the mobile farming image recognition app is useful in collecting farmers' feedback and positive results have an outcome on the challenges faced by the durian farmers. © 2023 IEEE.

Digital microfluidic biochips have emerged as a promising alternative for various laboratory procedures in biochemistry, such as drug discovery and DNA sequencing. A recent generation of digital biochips uses a micro-electrode-dot-array (MEDA) architecture, which provides finer controllability of droplets and seamlessly integrates microelectronics and microfluidics. To simplify the wiring design of such biochips, all microelectrodes and their control registers are daisy-chained together. Therefore, the ability to both identify faults in the chain and tolerate them is required in MEDA biochips. In this study, a new daisy-chain design approach is proposed, integrating a built-in self-repair scheme that can automatically detect faults and correct them. Moreover, an efficient test generation method that requires only a small number of test vectors is proposed to achieve 100% fault coverage without degrading the electrodes. The proposed self-repair scheme can be used in both offline and online modes. experimental results show that detection and repair can be carried out for various types of faults that can occur in daisy chains. © 2023 IEEE.

The particular characteristics of deaf-mutes make them more likely to have mental health problems. Due to their particular way of communication, it is more difficult for them to deal with mental health problems than ordinary people. Nowadays, those psychologists who are good at sign language are in short supply, and remote assistance cannot achieve satisfactory results. Therefore, a library of virtual emotional gestures based on electroencephalogram (EEG) was established and a prototype system for mental health examination of deaf-mutes was proposed, which help deaf-mutes identify their psychological problems in time and assist medical staff to examine the psychological problems encountered by deaf-mutes. In addition, the virtual library of emotional gestures is established with the assistance of the chief physician from a 3A hospital in Henan Province. More importantly, the later experiments demonstrate the applicability of this virtual system. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

The microservices architectural style has been increasingly adopted in recent years due to its advantageous characteristics. While there exist design patterns for microservices that are theoretically beneficial for ensuring performance (and anti-patterns that should be avoided), they do not always lead to the expected impact. Some designs are solutions for achieving quality properties other than performance, and while they might be categorized as anti-patterns in theory, their influence on system performance can be minimal, depending on the context. Architects find it hard to reason about these trade-offs and the impact that design decisions will have on performance before implementing them. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose an approach that enables rapid evaluation of high-level architectural models by combining both static and dynamic analysis. The static analysis identifies the design anti-patterns that are known to hinder system performance and guides the architect in reasoning about these design decisions. The approach then generates source code for the system under study based on the architectural design model for a subsequent dynamic analysis to assess whether the statically detected anti-patterns do indeed have a negative effect on the performance of the analyzed system.

Large language models (LLMs) have significantly advanced performance across a spectrum of natural language processing (NLP) tasks. Yet, their application to knowledge graphs (KGs), which describe facts in the form of triplets and allow minimal hallucinations, remains an underexplored frontier. In this paper, we investigate the integration of LLMs with KGs by introducing a specialized KG Language (KGL), where a sentence precisely consists of an entity noun, a relation verb, and ends with another entity noun. Despite KGL's unfamiliar vocabulary to the LLM, we facilitate its learning through a tailored dictionary and illustrative sentences, and enhance context understanding via real-time KG context retrieval and KGL token embedding augmentation. Our results reveal that LLMs can achieve fluency in KGL, drastically reducing errors compared to conventional KG embedding methods on KG completion. Furthermore, our enhanced LLM shows exceptional competence in generating accurate three-word sentences from an initial entity and interpreting new unseen terms out of KGs.

The advent of electric mobility has created new costs that are closely linked to and influenced by the actions and behaviors of electric vehicle (EV) drivers. These include time-, energy-, and risk-related costs that each driver seeks to reduce by adjusting his or her strategy. In this paper, an electric vehicle charging dilemma using a non-cooperative routing game with selfish players is formulated. We assume that an electric vehicle plans a trip from one place to another and, in the process, must choose a specific route, stop at a roadside station, decide on the charging station, and charge its battery by a certain amount. The strategy of EVs to drive or stop depends on factors related to battery level, waiting status at charging stations, availability of charging types, and traffic load both on roads and at stations. The research problem aims to solve the EV driver's dilemma and determine the route that the EV driver must take to optimize his travel cost.' To solve the dilemma, we propose to build a simulation model based on input data obtained from historical records of U.S. government sources, as described in the paper. © 2022 IEEE.
