In real world there are many problems which have linear programming models where all decision parameters are fuzzy numbers. There are some approaches which are using different ranking functions for solving these problems. Unfortunately all these methods when there exist alternative optimal solutions, usually with different fuzzy value of the objective function for these solutions', can not specify a clear approach for choosing a solution. In this paper we give a method for solving fuzzy number linear programming problems based on the probabilistic expectation and variance concepts as ranking functions to remove the above shortcomings.

A stochastic method is used to optimize white all-semiconductor lamps composed of tree, four, and five primary light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with Gaussian spectra and realistic line widths typical of AlGaInP and AlGaInP LEDs. Within an optimal set of central wavelengths and relative powers, a trade-off between luminous efficacy and the general color rendering index can be performed. The quadrichromatic all-semiconductor lamp is shown to meet most needs of deluxe general lighting. However, practical implementation of this lamp requires substantial improvement of LEDs in the yellow-green region (∼570 nm).

MAX CUT is the problem of partitioning the vertices of a graph into two sets, maximizing the number of edges joining these sets. This problem is NP-hard. Goemans and Williamson proposed an algorithm that first uses a semidefinite programming relaxation of MAX CUT to embed the vertices of the graph on the surfac. of an n dimensional sphere, and then uses a random hyperplane to cut the sphere in two, giving a cut of the graph. They show that the expected number of edges in the random cut is at least α · sdp, where α 0.87856 and sdp is the value of the semidefinite program. This manuscript shows the following results: 1. The integrality ratio of the semidefinite program is α. The previously known bound on the integrality ratio was roughly 0.8845. 2. In the presence of the so called "triangle constraints", the integrality ratio is no better than roughly 0.891. The previously known bound was above 0.95.

Representation theorems for systems of regions have been of interest for some time, and various contexts have been used for this purpose: Mormann has demonstrated the fruitfulness of the methods of continuous lattices to obtain a topological representation theorem for his formalisation of Whiteheadian ontological theory of space;similar results have been obtained by Roeper. In this note, we prove a topological representation theorem for a connection based class of systems, using methods and tools from the theory of proximity spaces. A framework with a tool-supported high-level specification technique is very important for the development of complex signal processing applications containing software-intensive parts (e.g. hybrid systems in automated production processes) in order to provide safe and reliable systems. In this paper we present the concept of a framework, which is an object-oriented CASE-tool offering a graphical specification ability to model and validate a given application and to control its execution. A variety of people having different programming skills is able to use this visual specification technique effectively. Especially users not being interested in implementation details can specify their application on a high abstraction level by connecting reusable and reliable components (modules representing basic algorithms). As a result, complex signal graphs representing the dataflow between the modules are created. The tool supports this software specification technique by automatic type checking for the connections between modules and by changeable module parameters. On the other hand it is easy for software engineers to integrate additional signal processing algorithms into the framework thus building suitable module libraries without considering a specific high-level application.
