Weighted rank aggregation based on ranker accuracies for feature selection

Rank aggregation is the combination of several ranked lists from a set of candidates to achieve a better ranking by combining information from different sources. In feature selection problem, due to the heterogeneity of methods, there are some base rankers (Filter-based methods) that are of diverse quality and usually the ground truth of ratings is not available. Existing rank aggregation methods that take the diverse quality of base rankers into account do not have any explicit approach for appropriate weighting, require prior assumptions, and suffers from high computational complexity. In this paper, to overcome these challenges, an efficient unsupervised method is introduced for estimating the base rankers’ qualities and aggregating the rankers based on the estimated weights. We first compute the ratio of disagreement between base rankers in ordering different element pairs and then estimate the accuracies in a way that to minimize the discrepancy between these computed ratios and their analytical counterparts. We use the weighted majority voting method for obtaining the aggregated results. To resolve the probable inconsistencies in the final aggregation, the result is formed as a graph, and a greedy algorithm is used to find an acyclic subgraph with the highest weigh. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, nine standard UCI datasets are used. The obtained results by the proposed method have higher values of classifier measures than the existing baseline Feature Selection methods and rank aggregation-based multi-filter methods in the most datasets. The experiments show that rank aggregation-based Feature Selection methods outperform individual methods. The proposed method also shows the weight of each Filter-based Feature Selection method, in which the MRMR method has a higher weight than other methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Drug–target interactions prediction based on similarity graph features extraction and deep learning

Identifying drug–target interactions (DTIs) is a critical step in both drug repositioning. The labor-intensive, time-consuming, and costly nature of classic DTI laboratory studies makes it imperative to create efficient computer algorithms to forecast possible DTIs. However, current computational approaches that predict potential drug–target interactions (DTIs) suffer from some limitations, like finding the best similarity measures or negative samples, and thus require substantial performance improvement. This study proposes an integrated approach based on feature representation and deep learning to predict DTIs. We extract the relevant features of drugs and proteins from heterogeneous networks using graph mining techniques. The proposed approach constructs a heterogeneous graph from the known drug–protein interactions, protein–protein, and drug–drug similarities. Then applying two feature extraction techniques to extract the features, then utilizing these features in training a deep learning model to predict the potential DTIs. Also, a novel algorithm is proposed to find the negative samples based on the drug and protein similarity matrices. Four Benchmark datasets are used to evaluate the proposed approach. Our approach achieves the highest AUC (area under the ROC curve) across all datasets (0.98) with around 2% increases over the existing methods. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms the baseline methods in predicting DTI, and our negative sample-identifying algorithm could be established as a competitive solution. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

A new bi-level deep human action representation structure based on the sequence of sub-actions

Human action recognition is applicable in different domains. Previously proposed methods cannot appropriately consider the sequence of sub-actions. Herein, we propose a semantical action model based on the sequence of sub-actions. A technique is used to segment actions on the time axis based on body movements via an energy diagram. After dividing actions into sub-actions, a novel bi-level deep structure is used to extract their features. Then, the sequence of sub-action features is modeled by a deep network to create the action model. As extracted sub-actions have fewer variations in execution manner, their representation is more stable, and modeling their sequence would be an efficient model. Experimental results on UCF-YouTube, UCF-Sport, and Human Motion DataBase (HMDB) datasets indicate the sustainable performance of this method. Overall, the accuracy of the proposed method is 0.972 on average, while the value for the second-best method is 0.925. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

The Nong Han Chaloem Phrakiat Lotus Park is a tourist attraction and a source of learning regarding lotus ***,as a training area,it lacks appeal and learning motivation due to its conventional presentation of information regarding lotus *** current study introduced the concept of smart learning in this setting to increase interest and motivation for *** neural networks(CNNs)were used for the classification of lotus plant species,for use in the development of a mobile application to display details about each *** scope of the study was to classify 11 species of lotus plants using the proposed CNN model based on different techniques(augmentation,dropout,and L2)and hyper parameters(dropout and epoch number).The expected outcome was to obtain a high-performance CNN model with reduced total parameters compared to using three different pre-trained CNN models(Inception V3,VGG16,and VGG19)as *** performance of the model was presented in terms of accuracy,F1-score,precision,and recall *** results showed that the CNN model with the augmentation,dropout,and L2 techniques at a dropout value of 0.4 and an epoch number of 30 provided the highest testing accuracy of *** best proposed model was more accurate than the pre-trained CNN models,especially compared to Inception *** addition,the number of total parameters was reduced by approximately 1.80–2.19 *** findings demonstrated that the proposed model with a small number of total parameters had a satisfactory degree of classification accuracy.

An Encoding-Decoding Framework Based on CNN for circ RNA-RBP Binding Sites Prediction

Predicting RNA binding protein(RBP) binding sites on circular RNAs(circ RNAs) is a fundamental step to understand their interaction mechanism. Numerous computational methods are developed to solve this problem, but they cannot fully learn the features. Therefore, we propose circ-CNNED, a convolutional neural network(CNN)-based encoding and decoding framework. We first adopt two encoding methods to obtain two original matrices. We preprocess them using CNN before fusion. To capture the feature dependencies, we utilize temporal convolutional network(TCN) and CNN to construct encoding and decoding blocks, respectively. Then we introduce global expectation pooling to learn latent information and enhance the robustness of circ-CNNED. We perform circ-CNNED across 37 datasets to evaluate its effect. The comparison and ablation experiments demonstrate that our method is superior. In addition, motif enrichment analysis on four datasets helps us to explore the reason for performance improvement of circ-CNNED.

Impact of machine learning-based imputation techniques on medical datasets- a comparative analysis

In the realm of medical datasets, particularly when considering diabetes, the occurrence of data incompleteness is a prevalent issue. Unveiling valuable patterns through medical data analysis is crucial for early and precise medical predictions. However, the quality of data and the proper handling of missing data hold significant significance. To address this challenge, imputation stands as a robust approach. The main goal of this paper aims to provide a comprehensive investigation into the effects brought about by Machine Learning (ML) based imputation techniques, specifically K Nearest Neighbor Imputation (KNNI), Multiple Imputation by Chained Equations (MICE), and MissForest. Results of all three techniques are compared with the complete dataset for five missing rates (10% to 50%), and evaluated using four categories of evaluation criteria i.e. (1) model performance, (2) imputation error rate (Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Coefficient of Determination (R^2) values), (3) Pearson correlation analysis and, (4) model selection basis (Bayesian information criterion (BIC), Akaike information criterion (AIC), values). Model performance includes accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and Matthews Correlation Coefficient (Mcoff) score of four ML classifiers viz. (a) Random Forest (RF), (b) Support vector machine (SVM), (c) AdaBoost, (d) XGBoost (XGB). For all missing rate cases, the MissForest technique is better than the KNNI and MICE in accuracy and Mcoff in 80% of cases, precision in 40% of cases, recall in 60% of cases, F1 score, MAE, RMSE, R^2 in 100% of cases, AIC in 80% of cases, and BIC values in 100% of cases. Also, the correlation analysis confirms that the MissForest imputation preserves association between the variables, like the complete dataset. Overall, our findings suggest that MissForest is a better machine learning-based imputation technique for handling missing data in diabetes research. © The Author(s), under exclusive lice

Neutrosophic Fuzzy Power Management (NFPM): Tackling Uncertainty in Energy Harvesting for Sensor Networks

This paper presents a novel approach known as Neutrosophic Fuzzy Power Management (NFPM) aimed at addressing the critical challenge of uncertain energy availability in Energy Harvesting Sensor Networks (EHWSNs). The main objective of this research is to enhance the management of energy resources within these networks, which traditional fuzzy logic methods often fail to do, leading to power failures and reduced reliability. NFPM utilizes neutrosophic logic to effectively model uncertainty by representing the degrees of truth, indeterminacy, and falsity of both harvested and residual energy levels. Through a fuzzy inference system, NFPM dynamically allocates energy budgets for each time slot based on these neutrosophic sets, resulting in more adaptive and conservative energy distribution. The results are validated through numerical examples and extensive simulations, demonstrating NFPM's superiority over traditional fuzzy logic, with significant improvements such as a 25% reduction in power failures, 95% enhanced network connectivity, a 15% increase in data transmission success rates, and overall improvements in energy efficiency and robustness to fluctuations and noise. This research establishes NFPM as a promising solution to the uncertainties inherent in EHWSNs. Future research directions include exploring the integration of NFPM with machine learning algorithms for predictive energy management, assessing its scalability in larger networks, and examining its applicability in other domains requiring energy management under uncertainty. © 2025, University of New Mexico. Rice spikelet’s disease detection using hybrid optimization model and optimized CNN

Rice fields all across the world are affected by spikelet sterility, often known as rice spikelet's disease. It is characterized by the improper development of spikelet’s, which lowers grain output and quality. For optimal management and the avoidance of yield losses, this disease must be discovered early. In this study, a deep learning-based approach utilizing optimization techniques was proposed for accurate segmentation and disease detection in rice crops. The research aimed to address the vulnerability of rice crops to disease attacks from seed germination to mature spikelets. The proposed model consisted of three major phases: pre-processing, segmentation, feature extraction and disease detection. Gaussian filtering was employed to preprocess the raw rice crop images, while a new hybrid Whale Customized Gravitational Optimization Algorithm was utilized for segmentation. Disease detection was performed using a hybrid deep learning model called HybridNet, which combines convolutional neural networks (CNN) with an optimized recurrent neural network (RNN) model. The dataset intended for this proposed project is sourced from the CABI PlantwisePlus Knowledge Bank. The proposed model for rice spikelet disease detection achieved high accuracy with Sensitivity (0.9269), Specificity (0.9756), and Accuracy (0.9634). This indicates that the model effectively identifies and detects diseases in rice spikelets, demonstrating its reliable performance in disease management and crop protection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Proposing a digital twin-based sustainable water governance system for rural Indian villages

A sustainably governed water-ecosystem at village-level is crucial for the community's well-being. It requires understanding natures’ limits to store and yield water and balance it with the stakeholders’ needs, in the context of population growth, climate change, and unsustainable agricultural practices. Maharashtra villages like Randullabad and Karanjkhop are impacted by limited groundwater availability due to the geological structure of the Deccan Traps basaltic rock formation and are recharged by the most rainfall during the monsoon season. Traditional water management practices are inadequate, with old wells causing conflicts among villagers due to fluctuating water levels. In order to achieve a sustainable water system for rural Indian villages, this paper proposes a Digital Twin-Based Water Governance System (DToWGS) with the aim of balancing nature's boundaries with stakeholders' interests to provide real-time water insights, encourage community engagement, transparency in water allocation and decision-making, and promote sustainable practices. These measured indicators can potentially link local governance outcomes to global goals like Viksit Bharat 2047 and UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6). © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2025.

Dynamic Multi-Graph Spatio-Temporal Graph Traffic Flow Prediction in Bangkok:An Application of a Continuous Convolutional Neural Network

The ability to accurately predict urban traffic flows is crucial for optimising city ***,various methods for forecasting urban traffic have been developed,focusing on analysing historical data to understand complex mobility *** learning techniques,such as graph neural networks(GNNs),are popular for their ability to capture spatio-temporal ***,these models often become overly complex due to the large number of hyper-parameters *** this study,we introduce Dynamic Multi-Graph Spatial-Temporal Graph Neural Ordinary Differential Equation Networks(DMST-GNODE),a framework based on ordinary differential equations(ODEs)that autonomously discovers effective spatial-temporal graph neural network(STGNN)architectures for traffic prediction *** comparative analysis of DMST-GNODE and baseline models indicates that DMST-GNODE model demonstrates superior performance across multiple datasets,consistently achieving the lowest Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE)values,alongside the highest *** the BKK(Bangkok)dataset,it outperformed other models with an RMSE of 3.3165 and an accuracy of 0.9367 for a 20-min interval,maintaining this trend across 40 and 60 ***,on the PeMS08 dataset,DMST-GNODE achieved the best performance with an RMSE of 19.4863 and an accuracy of 0.9377 at 20 min,demonstrating its effectiveness over longer *** Los_Loop dataset results further emphasise this model’s advantage,with an RMSE of 3.3422 and an accuracy of 0.7643 at 20 min,consistently maintaining superiority across all time *** numerical highlights indicate that DMST-GNODE not only outperforms baseline models but also achieves higher accuracy and lower errors across different time intervals and datasets.
