The hardware and software of a computer are controlled by its operating system (OS), which performs essential tasks such as input and output processing, file and memory management, and the management of peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers. Application software refers to programs designed for specific purposes, these applications, often freely available and open source, contribute to the rising number of downloads. In the third quarter of 2022, combined downloads from the Apple App Store and Google Play Reached an estimated 35.3 billion. However, the prevalence of insecurity in these applications and technologies heightens the potential for cybercrimes. Protection against unauthorized intruders is crucial in identifying malicious applications. Machine learning (ML) serves as a promising avenue for detecting malware attacks, offering potential solutions to bolster cybersecurity measures. We propose a novel approach utilizing ML to enhance malware detection accuracy by segmenting datasets into distinct groups. Our research employs supervised ML techniques on the CICMaldroid2020 dataset, which includes comprehensive information such as intent actions, permissions, and sensitive APIs. The dataset was partitioned into four groups, each containing 150 features, and analyzed across four experiments to distinguish between attack and benign classes. Our proposed model demonstrated exceptional performance, with the random forest algorithm achieving an accuracy of 98.6% and a precision of 98.75%. These results highlight the effectiveness of our segmentation approach and its significant contribution to advancing malware detection in Android applications, offering a promising direction for future cybersecurity solutions. © 2024 by the authors of this article.

One of the key components of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks is tunable optical filters (TOFs). This paper focused on the theoretical analysis and design of a new dual-channel micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) actuated tunable optical filter based on polarization insensitive compound ring resonators (PICRRs) for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical networking applications. It is basically structured on an optimally designed capacitive type microcantilever beam, which is fixed at both ends, with built-in PICRRs, which are placed at both fixed ends of the beam to gain linearly varying longitudinal strain and stress on the resonators. Also, the dimensions of the rings are properly chosen to achieve a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 0.4078 nm with a flat pass band at 1 dB of 0.3626 nm and a good shape factor for both channels. It also shows a free spectral range of about 20.05 nm for the first channel and 20.046 nm for the second channel, with a high extinction ratio that allows filtering of adjacent channels of 50 GHz DWDM systems. Thus, when the electrostatic attraction force (EAF) is applied, the beam will bend, which induces strain and stress in the rings, which brings a change in effective refractive index of the rings and also affects the perimeter and coupling coefficients of the rings that leads to a change in the output spectrum shift, providing the tunability as high as 4.779 nm/μN, and it is capable of tuning up to 355 GHz with negligible variations of FWHM and channel spacing within the tunability range of the two channels. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The heightened transmissibility of the coronavirus presents significant hazards for medical professionals conducting face-to-face COVID-19 swab tests. To address this concern, we recommend employing a 4-axis instructional robotic arm, outfitted with a variety of control mechanisms for swab collection. The robot is designed with a versatile manipulator, an endoscope paired with a display, and a master apparatus. The adaptable manipulator enhances testee safety, while the master apparatus's analogous structure simplifies operation for medical professionals. By leveraging the endoscope's visual output, the practitioner can manage the movement of the swab affixed to the manipulator during the collection process. This paper introduces the preliminary robotic system, encompassing its functional space and procedural steps. We also propose future experimental endeavors, such as 1) assessing the manipulator's precision under visual supervision, and 2) conducting a human phantom experiment to validate the robot's practicality. © 2023 IEEE.

The use of batteries as an energy storage medium has a very important role in the installation of renewable energy power plants, such as photovoltaics to overcome intermittency in photovoltaics and to maintain stable power quality. In this study, the installation of solar plants that was used as the research object was a smart micro grid that integrates photovoltaic electrical energy sources with the Utility electricity network for residential scale. The battery monitoring system is used to manage the performance of existing batteries on the electricity grid through analysis of the battery's electrical values such as current, voltage, power and energy, so that it can function optimally in storing electrical energy and supplying electricity to users. Internet of things (IoT) technology is used to provide easy transfer of data obtained through the process of data acquisition to data visualization provided to be accessed by users in real time. This research aims to develop an IoT-based battery monitoring system. The development carried out focuses on the data acquisition process, the data transfer process using IoT technology, the process of analyzing and visualizing data on the IoT cloud and remote access to users. © 2024 IEEE.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that diabetic retinopathy affects one-third of diabetics, regardless of their stage of the disease. Several research efforts are focused on its automated detection and diagnosis. Identifying diabetic retinopathy is crucial due to the damage that occurs to the blood vessels of the eye retina, leading to vision blur or even complete blindness. Thus, an annual checkup is needed for people with diabetes. Moreover, uncontrolled sugar levels for diabetes patients could worsen the current stage of diabetic retinopathy. Consequently, automated detection can greatly contribute to the treatment of disease. This can be carried out through several algorithms, including deep learning models and support vector machines, in addition to transfer learning. This contribution proposes a new approach for diabetic retinopathy automated detection based on convolutional neural network (CNN) models. The proposed model provides both binary and multi-class detection. Both scenarios have shown promising results, where the training accuracies of both the binary classification and the multi-class are 92% and 94%, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

Large binary images are used in many modern applications of image processing. For instance, they serve as inputs or target masks for training machine learning (ML) models in computer vision and image segmentation. Storing large binary images in limited memory and loading them repeatedly on demand, which is common in ML, calls for efficient image encoding and decoding mechanisms. In the paper, we propose an encoding scheme for efficient compressed storage of large binary images based on chain codes, and introduce a new single-pass algorithm for fast parallel reconstruction of raster images from the encoded representation. We use three large real-life binary masks to test the efficiency of the proposed method, which were derived from vector layers of single-class objects – a building cadaster, a woody vegetation landscape feature map, and a road network map. We show that the masks encoded by the proposed method require significantly less storage space than standard lossless compression formats. We further compared the proposed method for mask reconstruction from chain codes with a recent state-of-the-art algorithm, and achieved between 12% and 33% faster reconstruction on test data. © The Author(s) 2024.

Neural architecture search (NAS) has received increasing attention because of its exceptional merits in automating the design of deep neural network (DNN) architectures. However, the performance evaluation process, as a key part of NAS, often requires training a large number of DNNs. This inevitably makes NAS computationally expensive. In past years, many efficient evaluation methods (EEMs) have been proposed to address this critical issue. In this article, we comprehensively survey these EEMs published up to date, and provide a detailed analysis to motivate the further development of this research direction. Specifically, we divide the existing EEMs into four categories based on the number of DNNs trained for constructing these EEMs. The categorization can reflect the degree of efficiency in principle, which can in turn help quickly grasp the methodological features. In surveying each category, we further discuss the design principles and analyze the strengths and weaknesses to clarify the landscape of existing EEMs, thus making easily understanding the research trends of EEMs. Furthermore, we also discuss the current challenges and issues to identify future research directions in this emerging topic. In summary, this survey provides a convenient overview of EEM for interested users, and they can easily select the proper EEM method for the tasks at hand. In addition, the researchers in the NAS field could continue exploring the future directions suggested in the article. © 2020 IEEE.

The paper presents a simulation-based study of the impact of transmission resource correction on the performance of a communication network. The study considers the effects the use of inequality coefficients to control network resources. The results show that adjusting the transmission resource values based on the Ref parameter can significantly improve network performance, leading to a equalization of network characteristics. The study's findings provide valuable insights for network designers and operators seeking to optimize network performance in communication systems. © 2023 IEEE.

Mathematical analysis of AMRes: unlocking enhanced recognition across audio-visual domains

This research presents AMRes (Adaptive Windowed Convolutional Neural Network and Multiple Residual Network), a novel method that demonstrates remarkable resilience against overfitting, even in scenarios with limited training data. With meticulous design comprising up to 19 convolutional layers, it enables deep learning models to effectively extract and analyze vital information from input data while preserving it through deep layers. Through rigorous mathematical and empirical validation, the proposed method exhibits adept handling of intra- and inter-speaker variability, efficient training with limited data, and potential applicability beyond speech recognition in image-related applications, showcasing its generality. This paper establishes a solid foundation for advancements in multi-faceted recognition systems. The proposed method excels at proficiently modeling speech signals and achieving highly accurate speech recognition. Thorough evaluations utilizing well-established databases such as Switchboard, Timit, and FarsDAT for speech, and MNIST for image data underscore the method's versatility and efficacy across diverse data contexts. Comparative analysis against state-of-the-art techniques in speech recognition demonstrates the propose method's competitive and often superior performance. Notably, this method significantly reduces phoneme recognition errors by approximately 8% on notable datasets. This research provides a solid foundation for advancing the field and highlights the proposed method's potential in improving recognition systems, encouraging further exploration. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

Aggregate planning is a crucial stage in the production process because it supports other processes. Careless production planning may cause production costs to spike sharply that hurts the company financially. This study explores the novel usage of particle swarm optimization (PSO) to discover a set of solutions among the objective of a multioptimization problem in aggregate production planning. The study uses a small home textile industry with complex production processes of school uniforms as a case study. The results show that the production cost difference between actual data and the proposed method is IDR330,670,000. Thus, PSO can solve the multi-site aggregate planning by reducing the company production cost. Copyright © Journal of engineering, Project, and Production Management (EPPM-Journal).
