Human activity recognition (HAR) and user identification utilizing smartphone sensors are crucial in domains such as wellness tracking, tailored services, and security. Conventional approaches handle these activities as distinct entities, leading to less-Than-ideal performance and restricted applicability. This research presents a novel deep multi-Task learning network that simultaneously performs activity recognition and user identification using smartphone sensor data. By leveraging shared representations and task-specific information, the network enhances accuracy. It combines a shared convolutional neural network (CNN) with bidirectional long short-Term memory (BiLSTM) layers to extract features from raw sensor data. The CNN identifies patterns, while the BiLSTM captures sequential dependencies and contextual information. These features are processed by fully connected layers for both activity recognition and user identification. A multi-Task loss function is proposed to optimize both tasks based on their complexity and importance. The approach is tested on the UCI-HAR dataset, containing diverse activities from multiple users. Experimental results show that the proposed CNN-BiLSTM model achieves 97.64% accuracy in activity recognition and 82.59% in user identification, surpassing current state-of-The-Art methods. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the multi-Task learning framework and the advantage of using the shared CNN-BiLSTM architecture for improving both tasks. © 2025 The Author(s).

Detecting activities of daily living (ADL) is crucial for supported living and medical monitoring. Traditional approaches rely on high-resolution sensors and computationally intensive algorithms, limiting their scalability and practical use in real-world settings. This research introduces LowResIR-Net, a compact deep residual network architecture specifically tailored for recognizing ADL utilizing low-resolution infrared sensor data. LowResIR-Net efficiently extracts key features from low-dimensional data by leveraging the advantages of infrared sensing, such as privacy protection and light resilience. Its architecture combines residual connections with depth-wise convolutions, enhancing feature learning while maintaining a compact model size. The model’s performance is evaluated using the Coventry-2018 dataset, containing low-resolution infrared data from three residential sensor locations. Our tests have shown that in all three cases, LowResIR-Net consistently achieves superior performance compared to other cutting-edge deep learning models, such as CNN, LSTM, BiLSTM, GRU, and BiGRU. LowResIR-Net attains the most excellent accuracies of 90.18%, 93.75%, and 93.30%, and F1-scores of 81.81%, 89.55%, and 88.92% for scenarios I, II, and III, respectively. Furthermore, it achieves these results with fewer parameters than most other models. LowResIR-Net’s strong performance highlights its ability to accurately capture complex patterns in low-resolution infrared data for ADL detection. This study demonstrates the potential of lightweight deep learning and low-resolution infrared sensors in developing privacy-focused and computationally efficient wellness monitoring systems. © 2025 The Author(s).

In Neural Networks, there are various methods of feature fusion. Different strategies can significantly affect the effectiveness of feature representation, consequently influencing the model’s ability to extract representative and discriminative features. In the field of face recognition, traditional feature fusion methods include feature concatenation and feature addition. Recently, various attention mechanism-based fusion strategies have emerged. However, we found that these methods primarily focus on the important features in the image, referred to as salient features in this paper, while neglecting another equally important set of features for image recognition tasks, which we term differential features. This may cause the model to overlook critical local differences when dealing with complex facial samples. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient convolution module called MSConv (Multiplicative and Subtractive Convolution), designed to balance the model’s learning of salient and differential features. Specifically, we employ multi-scale mixed convolution to capture both local and broader contextual information from face images, and then utilize Multiplication Operation (MO) and Subtraction Operation (SO) to extract salient and differential features, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate that by integrating both salient and differential features, MSConv outperforms models that only focus on salient features. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Large Language Models (LLMs) show strong performance in natural language processing tasks, but their application in the financial domain is limited. Current methods rely on large datasets and manual prompt engineering, resulting in high data demands, long inference times, and frequent hallucinations. To address these limitations, we propose a novel self-supervised prompt optimization framework tailored for the financial domain. Our approach involves training a critical model that evaluates and ranks generated outputs using both good and bad answers generated from various revised prompts. Experiments on a large Chinese financial corpus show that our framework significantly improves performance on tasks such as summarization and event-based question answering, as evidenced by higher scores on both automated metrics like ROUGE, BLEU, and BERTScore, and also through human evaluations. These results validate the effectiveness of our method in reducing hallucinations and improving the quality of financial text generation. © 2025 IEEE.

With the rapid increase in cloud services and the increasing shift toward them, balancing the cloud load has become a critical research issue. The increasing demand from customers for technology services worldwide is largely due to its direct impact on performance quality. Therefore, to provide better service quality, it is essential to consider reducing response time and cost in load balancing. This paper addresses the load-balancing problem by optimizing response time and computing cost in cloud computing systems. Specifically, we first formulated the load balancing problem in cloud computing mathematically by designing an objective function that optimizes response time and cost, including constraints to ensure task assignment to a single virtual machine (VM) and resource limits are not exceeded. To solve this optimization problem, we proposed a hybrid algorithm, ACOCSA, that combines Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Crow Search Algorithm (CSA). We implemented the ACOCSA algorithm, evaluated the response time, cost, and load balancing metrics, and found that our algorithm performed better in terms of response time and computational cost, and showed good fairness among VMs. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. Electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis is crucial for diagnosing cardiovascular diseases (CVD), especially atrial fibrillation (AF), a prevalent cardiac rhythm abnormality. However, the variability and complexity of ECG signals make AF classification challenging, highlighting the need for more accurate and reliable methods. This paper introduces a novel deep learning (DL) architecture designed to enhance the processing, feature extraction, and analysis of ECG signals. The proposed model utilizes a hybrid framework that combines standard and dilated convolutional networks, advanced attention mechanisms, and temporal sequence learning to address the complexities of ECG data. A parallel architecture integrates a MobileViT block for efficient spatial feature extraction and an Efficient Channel Attention (ECA) module to refine feature representations. Simultaneously, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network captures temporal dependencies in the data. The concatenation of the outputs from both the MobileViT-ECA block and the LSTM network allows for the extraction of both local and global features. Fully connected layers, along with dropout regularization, ensure robust performance and effective classification. We analyzed ECG signals of three different lengths (1, 2, and 3 seconds) to investigate how segment length affects model performance. Additionally, we conducted various classification scenarios and an ablation study to simulate real-world conditions and identify key components of the architecture. Our experimental findings show that the model attains high accuracy in ECG classification and AF identification, with average metrics including accuracy of 87.80%, recall of 87.80%, F1-score of 87.45%, and specificity of 95.66%. The proposed model outperforms existing methods on the same AF dataset, demonstrating its superior performance. The 4-Node architecture for smart grids (SGs) distinguishes the operational features to enhance its stability and interruption less power distribution. This architecture contains 1 generator node and 3 consumption nodes to retain the stability of SGs. However, the chances of grid component failure, deficient power distribution, or peak demands result in the 4-node architecture imbalance. To forecast such imbalance towards SG stability, this paper exploits the explainable artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning models to verify the existence of bias in the 4-node architecture due to the above flaws. For this purpose, in this paper, the component functioning rate and demand-to-distribution ratio are computed and verified to compute the bias. The deep learning model trains the explainable AI model for the potential flaws from the distribution intervals. Using the training using the deep learning model, the 4-node architecture's performance is evaluated to forecast the grid stability for future distributions. The 4-node architecture stability is verified under different loads, peak demands, and device performances using the integrated hybrid model with EAI. The proposed model improved the forecast accuracy by 14.53 % and reduced the loss in flaw detection by 13.41 % for the varying dissemination hours. © 2025 The Authors

Understanding a user's semantic location is of critical importance in numerous areas of mobile computing, such as mobile healthcare, mobile advertising, and mobile personal assistance. Nevertheless, inferring semantic location remains challenging and often relies on translating raw geographical coordinates via third-party online services. In this paper we introduce SELLMA, an approach for semantic location inference that harnesses Wi-Fi SSID sensing and on-device querying of a specially crafted LLM. We implement SELLMA in Android and show that it can uncover a number of environmental and geographical descriptors of a users location in a privacy-preserving manner, without the need for GPS querying, and without reliance on Web-based services. © 2025 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

The highly volatile nature of cryptocurrencies, particularly Bitcoin, exhibits extreme price volatility, making accurate price prediction a challenging task for traditional forecasting models. This paper proposes an enhanced ARIMA model, called ARIMA_T, which incorporates time-reversed data and optimizes model selection using the Backward Validated information Criterion (BVIC). The ARIMA_T model aims to improve forecasting accuracy by capturing both linear and non-linear patterns in the data that standard ARIMA models often overlook. We apply this model to predict Bitcoin prices over short and medium-term horizons, specifically 1-day, 7-days, and 30-days ahead predictions. The dataset spans from April 2013 to February 2024. Experimental results demonstrate that ARIMA_T consistently outperforms the traditional ARIMA model across all forecast horizons, as evidenced by lower Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values. The ARIMA_T model provides more accurate and robust predictions, particularly for short-term forecasting, making it a valuable tool for navigating the volatile cryptocurrency market. This study also discusses the limitations of both models in handling longer-term predictions and suggests future work in integrating ARIMA_T with machine learning techniques for further improvements. © 2025 IEEE.

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has revolutionized healthcare by enabling real-time monitoring, remote diagnosis, and seamless data exchange among medical devices and providers. However, the interconnected and distributed nature of IoMT systems exposes them to significant cybersecurity threats, including data breaches and unauthorized access. This study aims to develop a secure and scalable framework to safeguard IoMT environments using blockchain technology, federated learning, and dynamic consensus algorithms. The proposed approach integrates artificial intelligence to detect threats and employs federated learning to maintain patient privacy while training models collaboratively. Experimental evaluation of the framework shows improved data security, reduced response times, and enhanced system trustworthiness. The results suggest that the integration of blockchain and AI-driven mechanisms offers a robust solution to IoMT cybersecurity challenges, paving the way for more reliable and efficient healthcare systems.
