Simulation-based Performance Evaluation of 3D Object Detection Methods with Deep Learning for a LiDAR Point Cloud Dataset in a SOTIF-related Use Case

Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) addresses sensor performance limitations and deep learning-based object detection insufficiencies to ensure the intended functionality of Automated Driving systems (ADS). This paper presents a methodology examining the adaptability and performance evaluation of the 3D object detection methods on a LiDAR point cloud dataset generated by simulating a SOTIF-related Use Case. The major contributions of this paper include defining and modeling a SOTIF-related Use Case with 21 diverse weather conditions and generating a LiDAR point cloud dataset suitable for application of 3D object detection methods. The dataset consists of 547 frames, encompassing clear, cloudy, rainy weather conditions, corresponding to different times of the day, including noon, sunset, and night. Employing MMDetection3D and OpenPCDET toolkits, the performance of State-of-the-Art (SOTA) 3D object detection methods is evaluated and compared by testing the pre-trained Deep Learning (DL) models on the generated dataset using Average Precision (AP) and Recall metrics. © 2025, CC BY.

Cyberbullying is now a serious issue in contemporary times. The impact of cyberbullying on youngsters is of enormous concern in the public health sector as well as in the cybersecurity field. Several researchers have discussed the impact of cyberbullying from diverse perspectives, however, there is still a large gap in finding the paramount impact of cyberbullying in contemporary times, as well as providing solutions to eradicate this menace, especially as it deals with the negative effects of technology which is emerging daily. This study reviews via a scoping evidence approach suggesting the impact of cyberbullying on youngsters, focusing on the psychological, emotional, physical health, and academic implications. Findings from studies revealed that most youngsters face more of the psychological and emotional consequences of cyberbullying as compared to others discussed in the literature. Interestingly, there were also revelations of how cyberbullying had negative influences on the physical health and academic achievements of youngsters. These findings thus instigate the need for novel approaches that can help curb the rampancy of cyberbullying as well as ensure that decision-makers and stakeholders in the respective institutions put these impacts of cyberbullying into consideration when designing cybersecurity policies to ensure that victims of cyberbullying are assisted to recover, put in place technological solutions that can track and punish offenders and also reduce the rate of cyberbullying victimization.

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have emerged as a prominent research focus for image editing tasks, leveraging the powerful image generation capabilities of the GAN framework to produce remarkable results. However, prevailing approaches are contingent upon extensive training datasets and explicit supervision, presenting a significant challenge in manipulating the diverse attributes of new image classes with limited sample availability. To surmount this hurdle, we introduce TAGE, an innovative image generation network comprising three integral modules: the Codebook Learning Module (CLM), the Code Prediction Module (CPM) and the Prompt-driven Semantic Module (PSM). The CPM module delves into the semantic dimensions of category-agnostic attributes, encapsulating them within a discrete codebook. This module is predicated on the concept that images are assemblages of attributes, and thus, by editing these category-independent attributes, it is theoretically possible to generate images from unseen categories. Subsequently, the CPM module facilitates naturalistic image editing by predicting indices of category-independent attribute vectors within the codebook. Additionally, the PSM module generates semantic cues that are seamlessly integrated into the Transformer architecture of the CPM, enhancing the model’s comprehension of the targeted attributes for editing. With these semantic cues, the model can generate images that accentuate desired attributes more prominently while maintaining the integrity of the original category, even with a limited number of samples. We have conducted extensive experiments utilizing the Animal Faces, Flowers, and VGGFaces datasets. The results of these experiments demonstrate that our proposed method not only achieves superior performance but also exhibits a high degree of stability when compared to other few-shot image generation techniques. © 2025 SPIE.

Physical rehabilitation plays a critical role in enhancing health outcomes globally. However, the shortage of physiotherapists, particularly in developing countries where the ratio is approximately ten physiotherapists per million people, poses a significant challenge to effective rehabilitation services. The existing literature on rehabilitation often falls short in data representation and the employment of diverse modalities, limiting the potential for advanced therapeutic interventions. To address this gap, This study integrates computer Vision and Human Activity Recognition (HAR) technologies to support home-based rehabilitation. The study mitigates this gap by exploring various modalities and proposing a framework for data representation. We introduce a novel framework that leverages both Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) for skeletal data representation. CWT is particularly valuable for capturing the time-frequency characteristics of dynamic movements involved in rehabilitation exercises, enabling a comprehensive depiction of both temporal and spectral features. This dual capability is crucial for accurately modelling the complex and variable nature of rehabilitation exercises. In our analysis, we evaluate 20 CNN-based models and one Vision Transformer (ViT) model. Additionally, we propose 12 hybrid architectures that combine CNN-based models with ViT in bi-model and tri-model configurations. These models are rigorously tested on the UI-PRMD and KIMORE benchmark datasets using key evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, with 5-fold cross-validation. Our evaluation also considers real-time performance, model size, and efficiency on low-power devices, emphasising practical applicability. This paper examines a cognitive radio (CR) nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system in which an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a reconfigurable intelligent surface (UAV-RIS) plays two roles: relaying and friendly jamming. The communication protocol has two phases. The first is an energy harvesting phase in which the UAV harvests radio frequency energy from a power beacon. In the second phase, a secondary transmitter (ST) simultaneously sends superimposed signals to secondary receivers (SRs) (a public SR and a covert SR) via NOMA with the assistance of the UAV-RIS. Then, a UAV warden and a UAV jammer launch a cooperative attack, in which the first adversary wiretaps the signals from the ST and UAV-RIS, whereas the second interferes with the SRs to force the ST to increase its transmit power. For improved secrecy, the UAV-RIS uses its harvested energy to combat the UAV warden. For this system, the secrecy performance is evaluated on the basis of the concept of covert communication. In particular, optimization algorithms are employed to maximize the covert SR throughput under outage probability and security constraints. A deep neural network model is subsequently trained to discover the relationships between the environmental parameters and optimized parameters to enable rapid adaptation to environmental conditions. © 2020 IEEE.

With the fast growth and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) models, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has remarkably progressed in locating industrial communication and enhancing industrial methods quickly. In Industry 5.0, the hyper-automation method is a technical trend that navigates manufacturing objects to intellectual devices of IIoT, smart, agile software, cloud computing, smart robotics, and embedded modules by reliability and higher intricacy. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods were established for identifying anomalies by understanding the usual behaviour methods of the cyber threat attack and identifying and detecting deviations. This study proposes a Feature Enhancement Model with a White Shark Optimizer-based Cyber Threat Attack Detection and Classification (FEWSO-CTADC) technique on an Imbalanced Dataset in an IIoT environment. The primary focus of the FEWSO-CTADC technique is to enhance the automatic classification and detection of cyber threats in the IIoT environment. Initially, the FEWSO-CTADC technique implements a data preprocessing model to scale the raw information into a uniform format. Next, the SMOTE technique is used to manage the imbalanced class distribution in the attack recognition database. Moreover, the WSO-based feature subset selection is accomplished to select the superior set of features. Finally, the FEWSO-CTADC method utilizes the stacked auto-encoder (SAE) method for attack classification and recognition. Extensive experiments were conducted to demonstrate the improved performance of the FEWSO-CTADC approach, and the results were compared across various methods. The performance validation of the FEWSO-CTADC approach exhibited a superior value of 99.20 % over recent techniques under diverse metrics.

Sustainable energy management in the AI era: a comprehensive analysis of ML and DL approaches

This study comprehensively analyzes the application of innovative deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) techniques in smart energy management systems (EMSs), with an emphasis on load forecasting, demand response, and the development of smart energy sectors. The application of various ML and DL models were examined in over 200 studies from 2014 to 2024 in an electrical network's EMS to highlight the key benefits and advances made by each technology for the sustainable management systems in energy sector. The findings emphasize DL and ML models’ enhanced precision and predictive capabilities in load forecasting, their efficacy in enabling efficient demand response mechanisms, and their significance in supporting the development of smart energy sectors. Furthermore, recommendations are made based on the survey results to assist in incorporating these techniques into EMS frameworks, such as investment in data infrastructure, model training and validation, and collaboration between researchers, industry experts, and policymakers. The study also discusses the limitations identified in the literature, such as limited real-world implementations, challenges regarding quality and data availability, and the need for enhanced ML and DL model interpretability. Addressing these limitations can assist in increasing the application and efficacy of ML and DL techniques in EMSs, enabling a more efficient and sustainable energy landscape. Finally, this study facilitates researchers' exploration of ML and DL in energy management, highlighting relevant limitations, strengths, and alternative approaches associated with sustainable energy management. It also indicates potential future research directions for further investigation.

The Impact of Employee’s Awareness of Food Safety in Egyptian Hotels: Machine Learning Approach

Hotel management food awareness has improved greatly using AI. Several scholars are interested in using the newest machine learning (ML) methods to enhance food quality, nutrition, safety, and accountability. Its operating systems use ML approaches to enhance service quality, profitability, resource optimization, and food waste reduction in the hotel industry. ML might improve demand, price, booking cancellation, financial, and labor efficiency. Hotels’ reputations depend on client happiness and loyalty, making food safety one of the most important challenges in the food industry. Thus, hotels have used customized ML technologies to assess staff food safety knowledge. This research also aims to prove the impact of Egyptian hotel employees’ food safety awareness by distributing questionnaires to kitchen department employees on food safety (i.e., personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention and sanitation, preparing food). Of the 250 forms distributed, 230 were valid for statistical analysis with a percentage of 92.8%. The main results showed that employee awareness (personal hygiene and food preparation) and food safety in Egyptian hotels are positively correlated, indicating a significant difference between food preparation and personal hygiene training courses (p-value= 0.05). Our suggested model predicts hotel staff awareness using ML approaches utilizing questionnaire data. The improved Support Vector Machine algorithm was evaluated using 10-fold-cross validation and obtained 99% accuracy, 99% recall, and 99% F1-score using our questionnaire data to assess employee food safety knowledge. This research should help build ML-based solutions for Egyptian hotel food production.

Self-awareness and self-management in diabetes are critical as they enhance patient well-being, decrease financial burden, and alleviate strain on healthcare systems by mitigating complications and promoting healthier life expectancy. Incomplete understanding persists regarding the synergistic effects of diet and exercise on diabetes management, as existing research often isolates these factors, creating a knowledge gap in comprehending their combined influence. Current diabetes research overlooks the interplay between diet and exercise in self-management. A holistic study is crucial to mitigate complications and healthcare burdens effectively. Multi-dimensional research questions covering complete diabetic management such as publication channels for diabetic research, existing machine learning solutions, physical activity tacking existing methods, and diabetic-associated datasets are included in this research. In this study, using a proper research protocol primary research articles related to diet, exercise, datasets, and blood analysis are selected and their quality is assessed for diabetic management. In order to estimate high-resolution air temperatures, computationally demanding procedures are required because climate models do not provide the resolution required for urban climate studies. Data-driven methods, on the other hand, provide air temperature downscaling that is quicker and more precise. Lidar technology has become a vital tool for researching these atmospheric components because of its capacity to measure backscattered signals and investigate the atmosphere at extremely high spatial and temporal resolution. However, machine learning has become a potent technique for sophisticated data processing and analysis because of the complexity and diversity of lidar technology. This research proposes a novel technique in urban–rural interface analysis in remote sensing by machine learning (ML) model. Here the input is collected as urban–rural landscape data and processed for noise removal as well as normalisation. Then these data features have been extracted and classified using a spatio extreme fuzzy gradient model with reinforcement Markov vector perceptron neural networks. Experimental analysis has been carried out for various geographical regions in terms of training accuracy, average precision, recall, RMSE, and F-1 score. The proposed model attained an F-1 score of 92%, training accuracy of 98%, average precision of 95%, recall of 93%, and RMSE of 55%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
