In this paper, we study how interactions between populations impact epidemic spread. We extend the classical SEIR model to include both integration-based disease transmission simulation and population flow. Our model differs from existing ones by having a more detailed representation of travel patterns, without losing tractability. This allows us to study the epidemic consequence of inter-regional travel with high fidelity. In particular, we define travel cadence as a two-dimensional measure of inter-regional travel, and show that both dimensions modulate epidemic spread. This technical insight leads to policy recommendations, pointing to a family of simple policy trajectories that can effectively curb epidemic spread while maintaining a basic level of mobility. Blockchain-enabled internet of medical things to combat COVID-19

We are experiencing an unprecedented healthcare crisis caused by the newly-discovered corona-virus disease (COVID-19). The outbreaks of COVID-19 reveal the frailties of existing healthcare systems. Therefore, the digital transformation of healthcare systems becomes an inevitable trend. During this process, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) plays a crucial role while intrinsic vulnerabilities of security and privacy deter the wide adoption of IoMT. In this article, we present a blockchain-enabled IoMT to address the security and privacy concerns of IoMT systems. We also discuss the solutions brought by blockchain-enabled IoMT to COVID-19 from five different perspectives. Indoor positioning is a thriving research area, which is slowly gaining market momentum. Its applications are mostly customized, ad hoc installations;ubiquitous applications analogous to Global Navigation Satellite System for outdoors are not available because of the lack of generic platforms, widely accepted standards and interoperability protocols. In this context, the indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) competition is the only long-term, technically sound initiative to monitor the state of the art of real systems by measuring their performance in a realistic environment. Most competing systems are pedestrian-oriented and based on the use of smartphones, but several competing tracks were set up, enabling comparison of an array of technologies. The two IPIN competitions described here include only off-site tracks. In contrast with on-site tracks where competitors bring their systems on-site - which were impossible to organize during 2021 and 2022 - in off-site tracks competitors download prerecorded data from multiple sensors and process them using the EvaalAPI, a real-time, web-based emulation interface. As usual with IPIN competitions, tracks were compliant with the EvAAL framework, ensuring consistency of the measurement procedure and reliability of results. The main contribution of this work is to show a compilation of possible indoor positioning scenarios and different indoor positioning solutions to the same problem. © 2023 CCBY.

Dementia is the main cause of disability in elderly populations. It has been shown that the risk factors of dementia are a mixture of pathological, lifestyle and heritable factors, with some of those being provably modifiable. Early diagnosis of dementia and approaches to slow down its evolution are currently the most prominent management methodologies due to lack of a cure. For that reason, a plethora of home-based assistive technologies for dementia management do exist, with most of them focusing on the improvement of memory and thinking. The main objective of LETHE is prevention in the whole spectrum of cognitive decline in the elderly population at risk reaching from asymptomatic to subjective or mild cognitive impairment to prodromal Dementia. LETHE will provide a Big Data collection platform and analysis system, that will allow prevention, personalized risk detection and intervention on cognitive decline. Through the subsequent 2-year clinical trial, the LETHE system, as well as the respective knowledge gained will be evaluated and validated. The scope of the current paper is to introduce the LETHE study and its respective novel platform as a holistic approach to multidomain lifestyle intervention trial studies. The present work depicts the architectural perspective and extends beyond state-of-the-art guidelines and approaches to health management systems and cloud platform *** Relevance — Patient Management systems as well as lifestyle management platforms have significant clinical relevance as they allow for remote and continuous monitoring of patients' health status. LETHE aims to improve patient outcomes by providing predictive models for cognitive decline and patient adherence to the multimodal lifestyle intervention, enabling prompt and appropriate medical decisions.

Now a day’s Internet of Thing’s (IoT’s) is considered growing technology. Ever increasing demand of IoT devices must have reliable channels for communication therefore, security needs to be ensured. Wireless enabled IoT use to have many real-time applications which include smart education, intelligent transportation, smart home, smart grid, health care and farming etc. Data collection can be made possible with the help of massive IoT devices. Intruder directly sends illegal data packets which lead to hijack overall network. IoT-networks have improved human experience in many real-time applications. Cyber-security threats usually limit computational resources. Therefore, detection of cyber-threats is the main problem for IoT-networks. This paper presents a novel concept of leNet model-based IDS to detect cyber- attacks. Although, two benchmark datasets such as IoTID20 and CICIDS2017 are utilized for simulation. LeNet model is compared with other traditional techniques like linear discriminant analysis, quadratic discriminant analysis, support vector machine and multi-layer perceptron. Accordingly, metrics like accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, confusion matrix and correlation matrix are used for performance evaluation. Extensive analysis is performed which indicates that with IoTIDS20 dataset, LeNet achieves recall-99.91%, precision-99.74%, F1-score-99.83% and accuracy-99.68%. While, using CICIDS2017 dataset, LeNet presents optimal results in terms of recall-97.96%, precision-96.41%, F1-score- 97.18% and accuracy-98.87%. Proposed LeNet model is light weighted and adaptable.

—In this paper, we study how to alleviate highway traffic congestion by encouraging plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles to stop at a charging station around peak congestion times. Specifically, we design a pricing policy to make the charging price dynamic and dependent on the traffic congestion, predicted via the cell transmission model, and the availability of charging spots. Furthermore, we develop a novel framework to model how this policy affects the drivers’ decisions by formulating a mixed-integer potential game. Technically, we introduce the concept of "road-to-station" (r2s) and "station-to-road" (s2r) flows, and show that the selfish actions of the drivers converge to charging schedules that are individually optimal in the sense of Nash. In the second part of this work, submitted as a separate paper (Part II: Case Study), we validate the proposed strategy on a simulated highway stretch between The Hague and Rotterdam, in The Netherlands. Sequential patterns mining is among the interesting topics in data mining. At the moment, there are quite a number of studies in sequential patterns mining since the introduction of Apriori algorithm. This algorithm can be divided into two categories known as horizontal and vertical data representations. Besides that, Pattern Growth is also another algorithm for mining the sequential patterns. It is based on compact pattern tree data structure and quite different with Apriori-based. Communication-centric Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) has been recognized as a promising methodology to implement wireless sensing functionality over existing network architectures, due to its cost-effectiveness and backward compatibility to legacy cellular systems. However, the inherent randomness of the communication signal may incur huge fluctuations in sensing capabilities, leading to unfavorable detection and estimation performance. To address this issue, we elaborate on random ISAC signal processing methods in this article, aiming at improving the sensing performance without unduly deteriorating the communication functionality. Specifically, we commence by discussing the fundamentals of sensing with random communication signals, including the performance metrics and optimal ranging waveforms. Building on these concepts, we then present a general framework for random ISAC signal transmission, followed by an in-depth exploration of time-domain pulse shaping, frequency-domain constellation shaping, and spatial-domain precoding methods. We provide a comprehensive overview of each of these topics, including models, results, and design guidelines. Finally, we conclude this article by identifying several promising research directions for random ISAC signal transmission. © 2025, CC BY-SA.

Achieving web services reliability in mobile cloud computing

Web services are highly requested in mobile communications to provide seamless connectivity between mobile devices and the cloud server. Web service reliability becomes the most demanding feature, which provides low communication overhead and ensures retrieving the appropriate response to avoid the duplicate request execution problem. In addition, it overcomes the request timeout problem that is one of the most affected issues in the mobile experience. This paper proposes two approaches to achieve the reliable web services consumption, Reliable mobile agent and WebSocket approach (MAWS) and reliable middleware and WebSocket approach (MWS). The two approaches are hybrid between the mobile agent and middleware approaches with WebSocket open connection communication protocol. These approaches recover the data loss because of the intermittent connections, overcomes the timeout problem.
