Water is one of the most important resources for survival. Nowadays, there is a continuous preoccupation for optimizing the use of water resources. The paper presents the model of a decision support system for the optimization of water consumption, which starts from the definition of different consumer profiles. In the water resource management system, several stakeholders are involved: the supplier, the state authority and the consumer, which are linked by well-defined contractual relationships. Depending on the consumer profile, the supplier may establish different types of contracts that favor responsible water use. The system proposes consumer profile oriented scenarios that reflect the influence of consumer habits on water consumption.

Visual impairment is a major global health concern, with Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) recognized as a leading cause of vision loss and blindness among individuals with diabetes. Despite its widespread occurrence, the early detection of DR poses significant challenges due to the subtlety of initial symptoms, the requirement for expert analysis of retinal images, and the drawbacks of traditional diagnostic techniques, which can be time-consuming, subjective, and susceptible to human error. DR impacts the retina and the ocular blood vessels, making timely and accurate diagnosis crucial to prevent irreversible damage. However, recent advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have opened up new avenues in medical diagnostics, offering sophisticated approaches for the detection and classification of DR with impressive accuracy. This article introduces a Pixel Attention-based M−Shaped Architecture (PAM), an innovative AI-powered diagnostic tool designed to enhance the detection and classification of DR. The PAM system consists of two key components: 1) a Pixel Attention (PIAT) network that aids in the precise identification of abnormalities in retinal blood vessels, and 2) an M−shaped neural network architecture that delivers strong segmentation and classification capabilities. Trained and validated on three diverse benchmark datasets with over 35,000 fundus images spanning multiple DR severity levels, PAM exhibits exceptional adaptability across different levels of DR severity (mild, moderate, severe, and proliferative), achieving state-of-the-art results with an accuracy of 98.73%, precision of 98.82%, sensitivity of 98.67%, specificity of 98.72%, F1-score of 99.13%, and a Dice coefficient of 98.74%. Comparative studies demonstrate that PAM outperforms current methodologies, especially in terms of accuracy and F1-score. Its key advantage is its ability to offer healthcare professionals a scalable, efficient, and dependable resource for improving clinical decision-making.

Grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems are considered as the best options for home solar electric system applications. Compared to other alternatives, grid-connected PV systems offer the least expensive and lowest-maintenance choice for residential usage. The PV systems are constructed using some solar cells to extract the energy from sun radiations and power converters to convert the output DC voltage into AC one. In the present study a hybrid scheme is suggested to control the grid-connected PV converters. The developed scheme is able to inject the power created by solar arrays into the network. Also, it can rectify the problems associated with the reactive power and load harmonics in the system. Moreover, the suggested technique can secure the load active and reactive power during the network failure conditions. One of the contributions of the proposed method is that it can manage the power of solar arrays to supply the load, filter the harmonics and compensate the reactive power in a situation where the power produced by solar arrays is less than the power of converters. In this condition, the proposed technique can make the current drawn from the grid completely sine at unity power factor.

LIDAR technology is a major part of autonomous robots. That technology provides the necessary data for autonomous navigation, localization, surface scanning and obstacle detection. This paper presents a modular embedded system architecture, which is a part of a self-sufficient AI. The LIDAR software module of the proposed system is described. That module will provide 2D information about the surrounding environment. It is developed like a loadable module with options for self-compiling in the system. This research is the first step of self-awareness embedded system. In addition, we illustrate the application of the module in localization and navigation of mobile robots. The results achieved show that the developed software module is applicable for robotics localization and navigation.

One of the objectives of Visual IoT is to realize safe and secure society via remote video transmission. Low-cost cameras play an important role since we need to distribute many cameras in the society. To achieve wide coverage of monitoring with single IP network camera, remote PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) function is one of the preferable solutions that is installed in IP network camera at high location such as at the top of mountains. In this paper we propose techniques of PTZ remote control of low-cost IP cameras for Visual IoT systems over mobile networks. At first, one of the regulations of PTZ remote-control, ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) Profile S, is introduced for remote operations over IP networks. We then design and implement remote ONVIF commands in our Visual IoT system. Finally the system performances are examined in both laboratory environment and outdoor fields. The remote PTZ operations is practically successful while issues are discussed to achieve area monitoring with a high precision using low-cost IP network cameras.
