Renewable energy resources (RERs) have been increasingly integrated into distribution networks (DNs) for decarbonization. However, the variable nature of RERs introduces uncertainties to DNs, frequently resulting in voltage fluctuations that threaten system security and hamper the further adoption of RERs. To incentivize more RER penetration, we propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based strategy to dynamically balance the trade-off between voltage fluctuation control and renewable accommodation. To further extract multi-time-scale spatial-temporal (ST) graphical information of a DN, our strategy draws on a multi-grained attention-based spatial-temporal graph convolution network (MG-ASTGCN), consisting of ST attention mechanism and ST convolution to explore the node correlations in the spatial and temporal views. The continuous decision-making process of balancing such a trade-off can be modeled as a Markov decision process optimized by the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithm with the help of the derived ST information. We validate our strategy on the modified IEEE 33, 69, and 118-bus radial distribution systems, with outcomes significantly outperforming the optimization-based benchmarks. Simulations also reveal that our developed MG-ASTGCN can to a great extent accelerate the convergence speed of DDPG and improve its performance in stabilizing node voltage in an RER-rich DN. One of the biggest issues with worldwide public health is Parkinson's disease (PD). It is usually known that about are around one million Americans who have Parkinson's disease, whereas there are approximately five million cases of the condition globally. As a result, it's critical to identify Parkinson's disease early on and make the appropriate treatment plans. These days, machine learning is essential for analysing problems in real time and offering answers thanks to its widely used algorithms. These days, machine learning algorithms are used in the healthcare industry to identify patients' health problems. This research went into great detail about the methods used using algorithms that use machine learning to classify Parkinson's disease. A fault in the brain cells that generate dopamine, a necessary chemical for synapses to connect with one another, is the cause of Parkinson's disease. The brain's dopamine-producing neurons are in charge of control, flexibility, and event familiarity. When 60–80% of these cells disappear, inadequate dopamine is produced, which causes Parkinson's disease symptoms to manifest. In this case, the Random Forest, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbours, and Support Vector Machine techniques were used to identify the illness. Compared to Decision Tree and Support Vector Machine, Random Forest and K-Nearest Neighbours offer the best performance.

Localised Adaptive Spatial-Temporal Graph Neural Network

Spatial-temporal graph models are prevailing for abstracting and modelling spatial and temporal dependencies. In this work, we ask the following question: whether and to what extent can we localise spatial-temporal graph models? We limit our scope to adaptive spatial-temporal graph neural networks (ASTGNNs), the state-of-the-art model architecture. Our approach to localisation involves sparsifying the spatial graph adjacency matrices. To this end, we propose Adaptive Graph Sparsification (AGS), a graph sparsification algorithm which successfully enables the localisation of ASTGNNs to an extreme extent (fully localisation). We apply AGS to two distinct ASTGNN architectures and nine spatial-temporal datasets. Intriguingly, we observe that spatial graphs in ASTGNNs can be sparsified by over 99.5% without any decline in test accuracy. Furthermore, even when ASTGNNs are fully localised, becoming graph-less and purely temporal, we record no drop in accuracy for the majority of tested datasets, with only minor accuracy deterioration observed in the remaining datasets. However, when the partially or fully localised ASTGNNs are reinitialised and retrained on the same data, there is a considerable and consistent drop in accuracy. Based on these observations, we reckon that (i) in the tested data, the information provided by the spatial dependencies is primarily included in the information provided by the temporal dependencies and, thus, can be essentially ignored for inference;and (ii) although the spatial dependencies provide redundant information, it is vital for the effective training of ASTGNNs and thus cannot be ignored during training. Furthermore, the localisation of ASTGNNs holds the potential to reduce the heavy computation overhead required on large-scale spatial-temporal data and further enable the distributed deployment of ASTGNNs. Patients in hospitals frequently exhibit psychological issues such as sadness, pessimism, eccentricity, and anxiety. However, hospitals normally lack tools and facilities to continuously monitor the psychological health of patients. It is desirable to identify depression in patients so that it can be managed by instantly providing better therapy. This can be possible by advances in machine learning for image processing with notable applications in the domain of emotion recognition using facial expressions. In this paper, we have proposed two different methods, i.e. facial expression detection and voice analysis, to predict emotions. For facial expression recognition, we have used two approaches, one is the use of Gabor filters for feature extraction with support vector machine for classification and another is using convolutional neural network (CNN). For voice analysis, we extracted mel-frequency cepstral coefficients from speech data and, based on those features, predicted the emotions of the speech using a CNN model. Experimental results show that our proposed emotion recognition methods obtained high accuracy and thus could be potentially deployed to real-world applications. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Recently, a new concept called multiplicative differential was introduced by Ellingsen et al. [7]. As an extension of the differential uniformity, it is theoretically appealing to determine the properties of c-differential uniformity and the corresponding c-differential spectrum. In this paper, based on certain quadratic character sums and two special elliptic curves over $$\mathbb {F}_p$$ , the $$(-1)$$ -differential spectra of the following two classes of power functions over $$\mathbb {F}_{p^n}$$ is completely determined: (1) $$f_1(x)=x^{\frac{p^n+3}{2}}$$ , where $$p>3$$ and $$p\equiv 3\pmod 4$$ ; (2) $$f_2(x)=x^{p^n-3}$$ , where $$p>3$$ . The obtained result shows that the $$(-1)$$ -differential spectra of $$f_1(x)$$ and $$f_2(x)$$ can be expressed explicitly in terms of n. Moreover, an upper bound of the c-differential uniformity of $$f_2(x)$$ is given.

Farmers all over the world struggle to fight plant diseases. However, the incorrect use of pesticides can waste time, effort, and money and can also be very harmful to the environment and human health. In this work, we present an empirical study that involves identifying two pathogens related to Cucumbers plant diseases: Powdery Mildew and Alternaria Cucumerina. The study aims to develop a computer-based solution based on deep learning and machine learning algorithms to detect these diseases. To achieve this, a dataset of hundreds of samples was collected from ordinary farms in Beqaa, an agricultural region 15 KM north of Amman, Jordan. Three machine learning models were created in this study using Support Vector Machines (SVM), Logistic Regression (LR), and Multi-layer perceptron algorithms. The constructed models were applied to the dataset after embedding the dataset images using the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) InceptionV3 pre-trained model. The model was tested and evaluated using cross-evaluation and F1-Score, CA, AUC, Precision, Recall, and Specificity, which all showed excellent results, particularly using the SVM algorithm. The constructed methods are intended to be deployed to farms in their field condition environments using a CCTV system that can capture images of plants during growth, which can help identify plant diseases at that right stage, which would save time, effort, and money and reduce the impact of wrong and overuse of pesticides on consumers and the environment.

Conceptual Exploration is a sophisticated method for the interactive and structured acquisition of knowledge from experts. It is therefore particularly suitable for the use in hybrid settings where both humans and AIs act as experts. This article provides a brief summary of how conceptual exploration can be used in the context of Hybrid Human AI systems, as discussed within a tutorial during the third HHAI conference in Malmö, Sweden. We will recapitulate two small experiments that were carried out with the participants of the tutorial and their results. As an essential resource management problem in network virtualization, virtual network embedding (VNE) aims to allocate the finite resources of physical network to sequentially arriving virtual network requests (VNRs) with different resource demands. Since this is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, many efforts have been made to provide viable solutions. However, most existing approaches have either ignored the admission control of VNRs, which has a potential impact on long-term performances, or not fully exploited the temporal and topological features of the physical network and VNRs. In this paper, we propose a deep Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning approach to learn a joint Admission Control and Resource Allocation policy for VNE, named HRL-ACRA. Specifically, the whole VNE process is decomposed into an upper-level policy for deciding whether to admit the arriving VNR or not and a lower-level policy for allocating resources of the physical network to meet the requirement of VNR through the HRL approach. Considering the proximal policy optimization as the basic training algorithm, we also adopt the average reward method to address the infinite horizon problem of the upper-level agent and design a customized multi-objective intrinsic reward to alleviate the sparse reward issue of the lower-level agent. Moreover, we develop a deep feature-aware graph neural network to capture the features of VNR and physical network and exploit a sequence-to-sequence model to generate embedding actions iteratively. Finally, extensive experiments are conducted in various settings, and show that HRL-ACRA outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in terms of both the acceptance ratio and long-term average revenue. The evolution of online social media has reshaped public behaviors, and social data infused with emotions provides crucial decision support for sentiment analysis tasks. Conventional multimodal approaches, influenced by redundant information in feature extraction during sentiment analysis, often focus solely on modality interactions without considering the unique content of each modality. This paper introduces the HGB-HFN model, addressing feature redundancy by optimizing extracted features using metaheuristic algorithm techniques, achieving a higher accuracy optimal feature dataset at lower computational costs. To counteract the neglect of modal-independent information, a hybrid fusion approach is adopted. It prioritizes visual features to extract precise semantic and emotional information from textual content, training multiple base classifiers to learn independent and diverse discriminative information. Comparative experiments on streaming datasets MOSI and MOSEI demonstrate the computational approach’s superiority in both accuracy and efficiency over existing methods.

Existing multimodal recommendation research still faces some challenges, such as not being able to fully mine the implicit relevance information of neighbor nodes, and the unreasonable weight allocation to imbalanced nodes. To address the aforementioned challenges, this paper introduces a new multimodal recommendation model called NS-MAR+. Specifically, the model firstly constructs a neighbor similarity graph convolutional network to capture the implicit relevance information and reasonably assigns the attention weights through the graph attention mechanism. Secondly, the model introduces a modal alignment and fusion mechanism by using a multilayer perceptron (MLP) to map image and text features into a shared space for comparison and fusion. In addition, the model constructs a user co-interaction graph and an item semantic graph based on the original information and performs graph convolution operations to enhance the preference information of users and items, and to better capture the interactions and internal features between users and items. Finally, MLP is employed to aggregate user and item representations and predict personalized recommendation rankings. To validate the experiment's efficacy, this paper compares with several leading multimodal recommendation models on public datasets with a performance improvement of 1% to 3%. The experimental outcomes indicate that the model in this paper has good superiority and accuracy in multimodal recommendation tasks.
