Image-text retrieval refers to querying the text or image of another modality given an image or text, and its key lies in the ability to accurately measure the similarity between text and image. Most of the existing retrieval methods only utilize the intramodal relations of each modality or the intermodal relations of the two modalities to perform the retrieval task. To address the above problems, we integrate the intra-modal and inter-modal relations and propose a Semantic Relation-based Cross Attention Network(SRCAN). In our proposed method, we first mine the possible intra-modal associations between regions in an image and between words in a text to obtain features with semantic relationships, and then capture the fine-grained associations between segments through the cross-attention mechanism. Finally, we balance the intra-modal and inter-modal relationships to improve the performance of the model. Our proposed method is experimentally validated on two datasets, Flickr30K and MS-COCO, and the experimental results show that our method achieves superior results.

Space docking is an important aspect of modern-day space exploration, enabling crewed missions, shipment transport, and spacecraft refuelling. Traditionally, manual docking has trusted astronaut precision and floor manipulation coordination, which has grown to be inefficient and blunders-susceptible in deep-space missions because of conversation delays. Integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning (ML) is reworking area docking by introducing self-reliant, actual-time selection-making structures. IoT-enabled sensors continuously monitor spacecraft role, pace, and orientation, while ML algorithms optimize docking manoeuvres, beautify predictive upkeep, and make certain collision avoidance. Reinforcement learning similarly allows adaptive management strategies, making self-sufficient docking more efficient and dependable. This paper explores the improvements in IoT and ML for automating space docking, reading real-global programs along with SpaceX Dragon, NASA's AR&D systems, and China's Tianzhou cargo deliver. By addressing key demanding situations-precision, pace, and safety-those technologies pave the way for sustainable space exploration, including future Mars missions and autonomous area stations. The observation highlights how AI-driven docking may be integral for deep-space operations, making sure safer and more green missions are made.

For an AI tic-tac-toe manipulator application, a real-time vision-based approach is proposed. The technique employs the RealSense camera to capture color and depth images. Combining object detection and image processing techniques to identify X's and O's positions on the game board. However, we recognize that errors can occur during object movement when using only 2D images. To solve this problem, a calibration method between RealSense and the manipulator based on the point-to-plane ICP algorithm is presented. This method provides the 3D object position in the robot coordinate, resulting in increasing the accuracy from 86.25% to 97.25%. Our experiment shows that this technique is highly effective and can accurately identify position objects.

The primary objective of medical image segmentation is the isolation of pathological tissues and distinct organs from medical images, thereby assisting in medical diagnosis. The methods employed for medical image segmentation encompass convolutional neural networks and transformer-based methods. Although the self-attention mechanism in Transformers improves its capability to capture long-range dependencies, it have limitations in learning local (contextual) relationships between pixels. Some previous research has tried to solve this problem by incorporating convolutional layers into the encoder or decoder of transformers, but sometimes feature inconsistencies arise. To better extract local features from images using convolutional neural networks and to fuse low-resolution and high-resolution features from higher-level and lower features, we propose the Convolutional Attention Augmentation TransUNet (CAA-TransUNet) model. In our model, firstly, we propose a convolutional attention augmentation module that enhances both local and global features by suppressing irrelevant background information. Secondly, we have integrated attention gates into the skip connections to aggregate feature information from various stages of the encoder during the upsampling process. Finally, we employ the technique of aggregating the loss of multi-stage features to expedite convergence speed and enhance performance. The experimental results on three public datasets demonstrate that our proposed model significantly outperforms the baseline methods.

Technical light-field setup for 3D imaging of the human nerve head validated with an eye model

With the new technology of 3D light field (LF) imaging, fundus photography can be expanded to provide depth information. This increases the diagnostic possibilities and additionally improves image quality by digitally refocusing. To provide depth information in the human optic nerve head such as in glaucoma diagnostics, a mydriatic fundus camera was upgraded with an LF imager. The aim of the study presented here was the validation of the technical setup and resulting depth estimations with an appropriate eye model. The technical setup consisted of a mydriatic fundus camera (FF450, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) and an LF imager (R12, Raytrix GmbH, Kiel, Germany). The field of view was set to 30°. The eye model (24.65 mm total length) consisted of a two-lens optical system and interchangeable fundus models with papilla excavations from 0.2 to 1 mm in steps of 0.2 mm. They were coated with red acrylic lacquer and vessels were drawn with a thin brush. 15 images were taken for each papilla depth illuminated with green light (wavelength 520 nm ± 20 nm). Papilla depth was measured from the papilla ground to the surrounding flat region. All 15 measurements for each papilla depth were averaged and compared to the printed depth. It was possible to perform 3D fundus imaging in an eye model by means of a novel LF-based optical setup. All LF images could be digitally refocused subsequently. Depth estimation in the eye model was successfully performed over a 30° field of view. The measured virtual depth and the printed model papilla depth is linear correlated. The presented LF setup allowed high-quality 3D one-shot imaging and depth estimation of the optic nerve head in an eye model. © 2021 by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.

In the women's community, Breast Cancer (BC) is a severe disease. The World Health Organization reported in 2020 that 2.26 million deaths occur due to BC. BC is curable if detected early. Since thermal imaging is non-invasive and supports disease detection, it is commonly used in clinics. Compared to other methods, it keeps BC early and accurate. The proposed work aims to evaluate the performance of the Pretrained Deep-Learning Methods (PDLM) in detecting BC using the thermal images collected from the benchmark dataset. It includes the following stages: primary image processing, deep feature mining, handcrafted feature mining, feature optimization using Firefly-Algorithm (FA), classification and validation. Visual Lab thermal images were used in the study. The investigational outcome of this study authenticates that the VGG16, along with the DT, provides better detection accuracy (95.5%) compared to other classifiers used in this study. To justify the significance of the implemented technique, the proposed work not only improved accuracy, but also improved precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-Scores. © 2023 The Authors. The global context is crucial for the precise segmentation of remote sensing images. However, the large volumes and high spatial resolutions of remote sensing images make efficient analysis of the entire scene challenging for most convolutional neural network (CNN)-based methods. To address this issue, we propose to design an innovative framework for semantic segmentation of remote sensing images called Feature Enhancement Swin Transformer (FEST). Firstly, we utilize the Swin Transformer as the encoder and incorporates a Global Information Enhancement Model (GIEM) within each Swin Transformer block to reduce information loss and enable encoding of more accurate spatial information. Secondly, we introduce an enhanced decoding structure called Enhanced Feature Fusion Module (EFFM) with added enhanced channel and spatial attention modules to retain localized information while obtaining extensive contextual information. Finally, for loss calculation, we utilize the dice and cross-entropy loss to jointly supervise the model, aiming to achieve a competitive performance. We comprehensively evaluated FEST on the ISPRS-Vaihingen and Potsdam datasets. The results indicate that our approach has achieved significant improvements in semantic segmentation tasks compared to existing methods.

With the rapid development of Natural Language Processing (NLP), text matching has become the basis of many downstream tasks in NLP, and the study of text matching is of great research significance for solving tasks such as question and answer and information retrieval in NLP. Most of the current text matching methods tend to have problems such as mismatch of grammatical structures and insufficient interaction information in sentences. In order to solve the problems of insufficient interaction information and lack of features and ability to capture keyword and sequence information in text matching, this paper proposes a text matching method based on multi-layer coding and soft attention mechanism. The method first embeds the text and sends it to a gating module for processing, then sends the processed result to a module containing a combination of multilayer coding and soft attention mechanism for further operations such as multiple alignment, and finally sends it to a classifier containing a three-layer fully-connected network for predicting whether the input text pairs match or not. The two modules proposed in this paper are practically feasible, and comparison and ablation experiments have been conducted on the publicly available datasets LCQMC dataset and BQ dataset, and the experimental results show that the two modules improve the accuracy of text matching by 2.44% and 1.02%, respectively.

Image-text retrieval is a basic cross-modal task, and the basic idea is to learn image-text matching. The key to this task is to accurately measure the similarity between these two modalities. However, most existing methods tend to measure image-text similarity based on highly correlated region-word pairs, which lacks the ability to capture complex cross-modal semantic associations, thereby resulting in failure to distinguish hard negative examples that are similar in semantic content. Furthermore, existing methods focus more on alignment of different modal features, thus neglecting deep reasoning about the semantic concepts within the modality. In this paper, we propose a new semantic information reasoning and multi-step cross-modal interaction (SRMCI) network to simultaneously explore intra-modal and inter-modal relationships. Specifically, we first propose a semantic information reasoning module to fully explore potential semantic relationships within modalities and focus on fragments with important semantic information. Then, we design a multi-step cross-modal interaction module that utilizes two different inter-modal interactive attentions and an effective gated fusion strategy to capture fragment-level and fragment-instance-level cross-modal semantic associations. In particular, this gated fusion strategy is used to learn better fine-grained feature representations to aid in understanding and establishing semantic associations between different modalities. Experiments on the benchmark datasets MS-COCO and Flickr30K demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Image-text matching is an important problem at the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing. It aims to establish the semantic link between image and text to achieve high-quality semantic alignment between the two modalities. However, the existing methods have the problem that the meaning expressed in the image or the complex narrative in the text cannot be fully understood due to insufficient feature extraction. Moreover, due to the essential modal differences between images and texts, how to effectively and accurately align the semantic contents in images and texts has become the key of research. In order to solve the above problems, this paper proposes a method based on feature enhancement and relationship interaction. When processing images, the proposed method fuses labeled features, region features and location features to represent images. When processing text, a combination of Bi-GRU and self-attention mechanism is used to represent the text. In order to further align the semantic content in images and texts accurately, this paper improves two relational interaction mechanisms by identifying connection relationships and learning association relationships. Thus, the relation enhanced embedding is obtained. Finally, it calculated the similarity of the enhanced embedding to judge the matching degree of the image and text. Extensive experiments on the public datasets Flickr30K and MSCOCO demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
