With an elemental composition similar to bone mineral,and the ability to release phosphorus and calcium that benefit bone regeneration,Calcium Phosphate Glass(CPG)serves as a promising component of bone tissue engineering ***,the degradation of CPG composites typically results in increased acidity,and its impact on bone-forming activity is less *** this work,we prepared 3D-printed composite scaffolds comprising CPG,Poly-ε-caprolactone(PCL),and various Magnesium Oxide(MgO)*** the MgO content effectively suppressed the degradation of CPG,maintaining a physiological pH of the degradation *** the degradation of CPG/PCL scaffolds resulted in upregulated apoptosis of Rat Bone Marrow-derived Stem Cells(rBMSC),scaffolds containing MgO were free from these negative impacts,and an optimal MgO content of 1 wt%led to the most pronounced osteogenic differentiation of *** work demonstrated that the rapid degradation of CPG impaired the renewability of stem cells through the increased acidity of the surrounding media,and MgO effectively modulated the degradation rate of CPG,thus preventing the negative effects of rapid degradation and supporting the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of the stem cells.

The integration of BIM and sustainability is a key success criterion for sustainable planning, construction and operation and maintenance. Actually, various research is conducted to integrate the economic, environmental and social aspects in the BIM method. Especially, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) are subjects of research. Although the integration of the various aspects has made significant progress in recent years, the complete life cycle is not regularly considered, but rather individual life cycle phases (such as design and construction). This is particularly due to the fact that building components consisting of different components are regularly included in the LCA and LCC calculation as a single component. The layered structure of the individual components (e.g. a wall with load-bearing elements, insulation, plaster and others) is thus not included in the respective calculations. However, it is a relevant criterion, since the conversion and renovation of buildings and the associated emissions and costs are strongly dependent on the layered structure and the deconstructability. Against this background, this paper presents a BIM- and data-based simulation of LCA and LCC to enable an optimized and realistic estimation of costs and emissions over the life cycle of building. The layered structure of building components is used to simulate the findings in a Proof-of-Concept (PoC). This paper shows, that BIM is a success criterion for the simulation of LCA and LCC and improves the construction and real estate industry's ability to implement sustainability concepts more effectively. It also indicates success factors for life cycle-orientated decision making as processes or definitions for the quality of information. © ISARC 2023. All rights reserved.

The development of advanced electrical insulation materials is crucial for the sustainability and efficiency of electrical systems, particularly in high-voltage applications. This study investigates the influence of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) nanofillers on the dielectric and electrical performance of epoxy composites, aiming to enhance the durability and effectiveness of biomaterial-based electrical insulation. Epoxy samples with varying CNC concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 3, and 5 wt%) were prepared and characterized. Key performance indicators, including dielectric permittivity, dielectric loss, current-voltage response, and electrical discharge activity, were measured and analyzed. The results demonstrated a clear correlation between reduced real and imaginary permittivity, increased resistance, and improved discharge withstandability, highlighting the effectiveness of CNC as a nanofiller in enhancing the insulating properties of epoxy composites. These findings suggest a promising avenue for developing robust, high-performance electrical insulators capable of meeting the stringent demands of sustainable and environmentally friendly applications. © 2024 The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers (KIEE).

This paper introduces a structured approach for creating node signature graphs in energy graph-based visualization for industrial systems, focusing on anomaly detection. It examines the relationship between graph cardinality and the singular value decomposition analysis applied in the energy graph-based visualization method. The results reveal a trade-of between graph complexity and singular value resolution. The study highlights how graph structure affects energy flow monitoring and anomaly detection. It notably enables fault detection in components not represented as nodes, enhancing the methodology in energy-based system monitoring.

Energy management system (EMS) is an important tool for energy efficiency and reliability of the power system. The optimal power dispatch of energy resources can be obtained using the nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). It is formulated as an optimization problem subject to linear and nonlinear constraints. Although the existing system works well under the current conditions, power loss has not been considered. Power loss in transmission lines occurs due to their resistance and a high amount of power flow to loads connecting to the system. The power loss leads to decreased efficiency in the electrical system and reduces the lifespan of equipment because of the high temperature from loss. This paper aims to analyze the power loss in the Mae Hong Son (MHS) microgrid. To achieve the research objectives, we employ the EMS of MHS with NMPC and calculate power loss in transmission lines for a period of 7 days. EMS considers three objective functions, namely, total operating cost, total carbon dioxide emission, and combined economic and emission dispatch and take into account of three seasons consisting of rainy, winter, and summer. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to valorize the use of Moroccan waste by using argan nut shell in combustion through small-scale furnace in order to produce energy. To that end, the chemico-thermal characteristics of the biomass were determined from previous studies, the released pollutant emissions from combustion were investigated and the results were demonstrated using CFD modeling. Robust MPC with Support Vector Clustering-based Parametric Uncertainty Set for Building Thermal Control

Control systems are essential to support the use of building structures as short-term thermal energy storage (TES). Due to modeling and forecast imperfections, the controller must be able to deal with uncertainties. This paper proposes a robust model predictive controller (MPC) with a new uncertainty set construction technique to regulate the heat supply in a building envelope. We extend the Support Vector Clustering-based set construction technique to estimate modeling and forecast uncertainty sets. Subsequently, we integrate the sets into a Min-Max MPC framework to ensure robust feasibility by tightening the constraints. The resulting controller successfully deals with modeling and forecast uncertainties. The quality of the presented framework is compared with a nominal MPC and a robust MPC with different uncertainty set estimates. On the basis of a numerical simulation, we demonstrate that the proposed controller successfully maintains the room temperature within the comfort limits. The result also shows that our MPC is less conservative than the controller designed using a box-shaped non-falsifed parametric uncertainty set.

Global warming has increased the use of renewable energy in energy systems. In this regard, the present work presents an innovative polygeneration system to produce power, ammonia, and process steam using solar, biomass, wind, and geothermal energies. By using a solar-syngas hybrid boiler, steam has been created in two high-pressure (HP) and low-pressure (LP) levels, and the HP steam is used for the gasification process. Syngas produced from biomass gasification process produces ammonia with the nitrogen obtained from an air separation unit by going through water gas shifting and carbon capture processes. Power consumption in the mentioned sections is produced by wind turbines. A Brayton cycle with ammonia and hydrogen hybrid fuel has been used to produce power and heat. The integration of supercritical CO2 and organic Rankine cycles with the hot flue gas output from the Brayton cycle has reduced heat losses and increased power generation. The presented renewable system has been analysed from the point of view of energy, exergy, exergeoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental (4E) methods. The overall results indicate that the total energy and exergy efficiencies are 31.33% and 38.53%, respectively. Also, the cost rate and environmental impacts of the whole system are calculated as 3222.35 $/h and 53.16 Pts/h, respectively. Meanwhile, the levelized cost and environmental impacts of electricity are equal to 0.18 $/kWh and 0.003 Pts/kWh, and the presented system is capable of producing 297.86 ton/day of ammonia. © (2023) by ECOS 2023 All rights reserved.

Over time, the water shortage crisis will have irreparable effects on the lives of many organisms, including humans. As a small contribution to alleviate the problem, the present work presents an innovative cogeneration system based on solar and wind renewable energies for sustainable production of freshwater, power, and wastewater treatment. To produce freshwater and treat wastewater in this system, the integration of a Microbial Desalination Cell with a Humidification-Dehumidification and Reverse Osmosis water desalination unit has been used. These systems obtain the required heat from solar energy to produce freshwater, and when solar radiation is unable to provide this heat, a hydrogen internal combustion engine driven with wind energy is used. Excess heat from the internal combustion engine is fed into the organic Rankine cycle with the working fluid R141B to generate power, to reduce the system waste heat and to increase the efficiency. To check the performance of the proposed system, energy, exergy, exergeoeconomic, and exergoenvironmental (4E) analyses have been carried out. The results of the analysis of the integrated system show that this system can produce 720 kW of electricity and 5.36 m3/h of freshwater. The energy efficiency of the system is 22.09%, and its overall cost rate and overall environmental impact rate are 540.33 $/h and 17.37 Pts/h, respectively. © (2023) by ECOS 2023 All rights reserved.

The methanol synthesis from syngas derived through dry reforming of biogas was studied using an Aspen HYSYS simulator. Studies revealed that hydrocarbon reforming is a practical approach to produce energy-efficient renewable fuels. In this simulation study, an initiative was made to utilize biogas for renewable methanol production using Aspen HYSYS simulator. In the biogas dry reforming process, it was observed that the reactant (CH4 and CO2) conversions are largely favoured at elevated temperature (900°C) and ambient pressure (1 bar). Moreover, at optimal parametric conditions, i.e., 200°C (temperature) and 100 bar (pressure), the methanol production rate of 24.7 kg/h was assessed. However, the variation in syngas product distribution was observed w.r.t. temperature and pressure in the water gas shift reactor. Hence, based on the above observations, it can be stated that the biogas-to-methanol process is eco-friendlier, and might be used to mitigate greenhouse gases. © 2022 Proceedings of WHEC 2022 - 23rd World Hydrogen Energy Conference: Bridging Continents by H2.
