The accelerated technological growth majorly influencing our everyday lives, Internet of Things (IoT) has been a trending topic and current interest in the contemporary world. IoT has benefited in revolutionising lifestyles, improving quality of life. Therefore, with the help of IoT, the study proposes a prototype for washroom occupancy tracking and hygiene monitoring system called the Washroomium. The prototype is evaluated with targeted users within the Asia Pacific University campus and received favourable feedback. It is hoped that this prototype would be able to provide a pleasant washroom experience for the stakeholders of university by bringing them an at-desk indication on the occupancy and hygiene status of washroom cubicles, alleviating queues and disappointment. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With the advent in services such as telemedicine and telesurgery,provision of continuous quality monitoring for these services has become a challenge for the network *** standards for provision of such services are application specic as medical imagery is quite different than general purpose images and *** paper presents a novel full reference objective video quality metric that focuses on estimating the quality of wireless capsule endoscopy(WCE)videos containing bleeding *** regions in gastrointestinal tract have been focused in this research,as bleeding is one of the major reasons behind several diseases within the *** method jointly estimates the diagnostic as well as perceptual quality of WCE videos,and accurately predicts the quality,which is in high correlation with the subjective differential mean opinion scores(DMOS).The proposed combines motion quality estimates,bleeding regions’quality estimates based on support vector machine(SVM)and perceptual quality estimates using the pristine and impaired WCE *** method Quality Index for Bleeding Regions in Capsule Endoscopy(QI-BRiCE)videos is one of its kind and the results show high correlation in terms of Pearson’s linear correlation coefcient(PLCC)and Spearman’s rank order correlation coefcient(SROCC).An F-test is also provided in the results section to prove the statistical signicance of our proposed method.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has emerged as a significant catalyst for various health conditions. The availability and cost of health professionals pose challenges, limiting access to personalised lifestyle support. To address this issue, utilising Conversational Agents (CAs) presents an opportunity to improve scalability and adoption by improving efficiency and engagement. Thus, this study focuses on the potential impact and response to T2D. This paper aims to develop a framework for designing CA functions that support individuals at risk of T2D to be more active and raise their awareness. The study involves a mixed methods approach, including a survey conducted among 30 participants in Sydney and Jeddah, followed by semi-structured interviews conducted with 10 participants. While descriptive statistics were used to analyse the survey, the interviews were analysed using thematic analysis. Drawing upon the interviews and relevant literature, this study proposes developing a preliminary framework to help design CAs that support individuals with prediabetes to adopt a more active lifestyle. © 2023 ACM.

Wastewater treatment and access to clean drinking water are major problems in emerging nations. Turbidity is caused by pollutants in the form of colloid particles found in waste water, and the color of waste water is brought on by the existence of naturally occurring mineral ions. The traditional, costly way of removing turbidity and discolored organic matter is coagulation treatment with chemicals. As a result, a different and affordable technique for eliminating turbidity using natural coagulants is suggested. Strychnos potatorum, a plant-based coagulant, is one of the natural coagulants that can be used in wastewater treatment to decrease it, and it is increasingly being used in this capacity. This study work concentrated on removing turbidity from both commercial and household washing machines using Strychnos potatorum seeds by creating an environmental system. Parameters, including pH(6), size (0.25 cm), and dosage (0.6 gm), have been optimized in batch study. The bed height (25 cm) and flow rate (5 ml/min) in the continuous mode of study have been optimized based on optimized parameters in the batch study. Results of FTIR and SEM tests confirmed the removal of turbidity. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Modelling and Remote Control of an Excavator

This paper presents the results of an on-going project and investigates modelling and remote control issues of an industry excavator. The details of modelling, communication, and control of a remotely controllable excavator are studied. The paper mainly focuses on trajectory tracking control of the excavator base and robust control of the excavator arm. These will provide the fundamental base for our next research step. In addition, extensive simulation results for trajectory tracking of the excavator base and robust control of the excavator arm are given. Finally, conclusions and further work have been identified.

The Amazon rainforest is a critical landscape and harbours a wide range of biodiversity. This is considered to be one of the largest sink for anthropogenic carbon sequestration on the Earth. Undoubtably, any substantial variation in the vegetation of this basin have tremendous impact upon the carbon absorption. Nonetheless, the impact of changing climate on the Amazon rainforest further complicates the matter. This study, for the first time, utilises the system identification method, under a wider realm of machine learning, for modelling the nonlinear dynamical relationship among the Leaf Area Index(LAI) and surface temperature for an Amazon rainforest site. The chosen model structure is Nonlinear Autoregressive with Exogenous Inputs(NARX). The training and testing datasets involved in this study correspond to the NASA Earth Observations. On contrary to the existing modelling methods performed for the Amazon, this data driven method results into a parsimonious model structure consisting of autoregressive terms as well as time lagged surface temperature. It therefore gives a deeper insights about the effects of temperature variation on the Amazon vegetation,emboldening the potential management of this crucial rainforest. A temperature dependent model also facilitates the forecasting under the various scenarios of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC).

In recent years, various different modeling languages and tools were developed to support the process of modeling in the field of software engineering. The usability of modeling languages has not been explicitly considered in past research. Most usability evaluation surveys are mainly focusing on applications, websites, software and technical products. Hence, usability has not been considered within the development of current languages for conceptual modeling such as EPC and UML diagrams. The objective of this paper is the adoption of existing usability definitions to modeling languages. Based on this, an evaluation framework focusing on the usability of modeling languages is proposed.

Internationally, it is important for Alibaba to gain a higher connection to join well-known western brands, especially luxury and luxury brands, due to the unfulfilled requirements among Chinese customers for the brand that cannot be reached in China. The rational modification of perovskite oxides(ABO3−δ)is essential to improve the efficiency and stability of oxygen *** engineering represents a facile approach to modify perovskites for enhanced *** compositional design and in situ exsolution,a Ru-doped(La_(0.8)Sr_(0.2))_(0.9)Co_(0.1)Fe_(0.8)Ru_(0.1)O_(3−δ)(LSCFR)perovskite anchored with CoFe(Ru)alloy particles on the surface was fabricated for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in this *** results and calculations indicate that Ru-doping promotes the exsolution of CoFe(Ru)from the perovskite *** exsolution in the reduced atmosphere for 3 h,the catalyst(LSCFR-3)exhibited superior OER performance with an overpotential of 347 mV and a Tafel slope of 54.65 mV·dec^(−1),and showed good stability in contrast to the pristine *** exsolution of CoFe(Ru)particles,Ru doping,and the increase of surface oxygen vacancies are responsible for the enhancement of OER *** findings obtained in this study highlight the possibility of controlling exsolution and composition of nanoparticles by element doping and prove that in situ exsolution is an effective strategy for designing OER catalysts.
