Spectral methods have been used to analyse and design classical Boolean circuits for a very long time. Recently the application of some of these methods has been studied in the field of reversible functions and circuits. The reversible logic is a candidate for the new low energy consuming circuit technologies of the future. However, the reversible synthesis area still lacks methods for synthesiz-ing functions in an optimal or near-optimal way. Moreover, existing approaches are not suitable for the functions with a high number of variables. In the paper, the Walsh spectrum is considered in the context of reversible circuit synthesis. We present a new synthesis procedure based on Walsh transformations. The proposed method gives results that are usually better than those obtained via known algorithms like Reed-Muller Based Synthesis, Transformations Based Synthesis, and BDD Based Synthesis. © 2021, College Publications. Impact of Gingival Phenotype on the Periodontal Disease

Aim: The aims of the present study were to explore the relations between the gingival phenotype (GP) and the periodontal health status and find the prevalence of a specific gingival phenotype in a small Bulgarian population. Materials and methods: We recruited 50 patients attending our dental practice with different periodontal diagnoses. A detailed periodontal status was taken to assess the diagnosis of each participant. Several clinical methods for evaluation of the gingival thickness and keratinized tissue width, including the TRAN method, transgingival probing, and direct measurement, were used. The data were summarized and analyzed statistically. Results: We found a significant prevalence of the thick gingival phenotype, in particular the thick flat type. The patients with periodontitis had a higher distribution of the thick gingival phenotype, while in those with gingivitis, the thin scalloped gingival phenotype was noted. In regards to the gingival thickness (GT), 36 participants were found to have GT >1 mm, and the remaining 14 had GT ≤1 mm. Statistically significant differences were found in the keratinized tissue width and the width of attached gingiva in the different gingival phenotypes. No significant differences were found in the age and sex of participants. Conclusions: We found a significant prevalence of the thick (with a mild prevalence of thick flat to thick scalloped) versus thin gingival phenotype in the studied sample. The highest relative proportion of patients with periodontitis was among the subsample of individuals with thick flat gingival phenotype. Regarding gingivitis, the highest proportion was in the thin scalloped phenotype subsample - 42.9%. The highest prevalence of periodontal health was among the individuals with thick scalloped GP (50%), followed by the thin scalloped GP (35.7%). © 2023 Authors. All rights reserved.

We study a model of machine teaching where the teacher mapping is constructed from a size function on both concepts and examples. The main question in machine teaching is the minimum number of examples needed for any concept, the so-called teaching dimension. A recent paper (Ferri et al., 2024) conjectured that a worst case for this model, as a function of the size of the concept class, occurs when the consistency matrix contains the binary representations of numbers from zero and up. In this paper we prove their conjecture. The result can be seen as a generalization of a theorem resolving the edge isoperimetry problem for hypercubes (Hart, 1976). Our proof is based on a generalization of a lemma of (Graham, 1970). Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

With the increasing development of artificial intelligence (AI), educators are exploring various AI-driven tools to enhance language teaching and learning processes. This study investigates the reliability of ChatGPT as an AI-powered assessment tool in the context of foreign language (FL) education. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research examines ChatGPT's evaluative abilities compared to human evaluators, focusing on its assessment of students' writing skills. The study employed a total of two research samples: one comprising eight students and another consisting of eight teachers of English language at the university where the research took place. The findings reveal that while ChatGPT demonstrates potential in providing feedback, its limitations, particularly in accurate assessment of grammatical nuances, emphasize the need for supplementation with human evaluation. The method section provides detailed information on the data collection process, including the procedures followed for evaluating student summaries and conducting interviews with teachers. The study highlights the importance of acknowledging AI's limitations and adopting a complementary approach to its integration in language education. © 2024 The Authors.

This study addresses the challenge of artifacts caused by conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) in ultrasound imaging devices and explores effective ways to eliminate them. We propose the use of an EMI filter connected to the electrical network of the ultrasound system. Our experimental results demonstrate that using the EMI filter can significantly reduce image artifacts, thereby improving image quality. However, in certain scenarios, the existing EMI filter was found to be insufficient for complete artifact elimination. Consequently, this study identifies the limitations of commercial EMI filters and explores the development of specialized filters designed specifically for artifact elimination in ultrasound imaging. Our findings underscore the importance of advanced EMI filtering solutions in enhancing ultrasound image quality, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

The load transient response of a power converter is an important property, especially in a test equipment application. The dynamic behavior of a dual active bridge converter mainly depends on the switching frequency, the transformer leakage inductance, and the capacitor bank size. Using the Continuous Cross-Period Single Phase-Shift control, an excellent load transient response can be achieved without the need for expensive hardware components. However, in practical applications, the switch delay and the required inserted dead time distort the current waveform, increasing the electromagnetic noise and reducing the effectiveness of the regulation. In this paper, an adaptive dead time compensation technique is presented, which eliminates such phenomenon. The effects of dead time are analyzed, and mathematical formulas are derived, from which the adaptive compensation technique is formalized. The algorithm is implemented on a TMS320F28075 DSP and tested in a HIL environment. The study revealed that the proposed adaptive technique could mitigate the current waveform distortions. © 2022, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). The paper presents a platform for knowledge and technology transfer processes and relevant information for higher educational institutions (HEIs). Nowadays knowledge transfer or third-mission activities are daily business for universities. Nevertheless, they often lack internal standardized processes and procedures. Every HEI tends to establish their own way of efficiently handling transfer activities, without sharing their knowledge with other HEIs. The presented platform outlines standardized processes with knowledge from several HEIs, presented in digitized form. The processes and the platform were evaluated with use cases and a standardized user experience questionnaire (UEQ). The results presented in this contribution indicate a high need for and positive perception of the processes and the platform. The paper aims to study the influence of the nominal current and current RMS on the torque and efficiency parameters of a brushless direct current - BLDC motor with variable geometry in the two extreme geometric instances, named Geom 0 - undeformed and Geom 10 - totally deformed. The stator and rotor geometries are modeled only to be able to extract some data from FEM simulations and are not optimized according to all the rules and design principles of BLDC electric machines, because the comparison in between the behaviors of different geometric instances is the purpose of the present study. The rotor is with variable geometry due to specific design of permanent magnets named compound magnets which are elastics. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper aims to present a comparative FEM analysis between different stator topologies of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with fractional slot concentrated wound (FSCW). The main topology difference consists in using two distinct materials for the stator core. The materials refer to non-oriented electric steel (NOES) and grain-oriented electric steel (GOES) lamination. Four stator topologies have been obtained by combining these materials. The first topology is strictly used as a comparison reference, the next two topologies approach a modular stator core, and the last one-a horseshoe bent strips core. Modular core construction simplifies the manufacturing technology and reduces the overall production costs without a significant impact on machine performance. © 2022 IEEE.

The summation of multiple DC low-voltage sources in series results in higher power and a higher output voltage across the load, and this type of inverter is known as a cascaded multilevel inverter (CMLI). Using a larger number of switches is one of the drawbacks of multilevel inverters (MLls) in comparison with the conventional inverters, which affects the reliability of MLI. Proper fault detection, reducing the number of switches and predicting the lifetime of components may help to compensate for the mentioned disadvantages. This paper presents a new fault tolerant MLI including an analog fault detection prioritized by lifetime of components method which is adapted to Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep learning method to forecast the fault and lifetime of MLI capacitors. The experimental findings demonstrate the practicability of the proposed techniques. © 2024 IEEE.
