The paper presents an automatic system for compacting metal waste from food consumption (boxes or empty cans). The compaction process is found in waste recycling systems. For the compaction system proposed in this paper, there are several automatic control solutions, both in the classic version-with contacts and relays, as well as with PLC. The verification was done through simulation using the dedicated FluidSim software. © 2024 IEEE.

Classification of Functions Using Machine Learning

We study the approximation of function classification by machine learn-ing. We first determine all the NPN and NPNP classes of three-bit reversible and one to five-bits irreversible functions. Then we apply machine learning to learn the labels for each set of functions. We then search the parameter space for several optimization criteria, such as the size of the neural network, the architecture, and learning parameters that would allow the network under training to learn the NPN classification problem with up to 100% accuracy. We also determine if, for n-bit functions, a classification can be performed using two smaller net-works, each classifying n-1-bit functions. Additionally, we discuss the logic solvability of all four-bit functions using the game of Nono-grams. We determine a relation between the learnability of the classification and logic solvability. We determined that while there is a set of functions that can be classified by representing a function as a prod-uct of two subfunctions, a more complex model is needed to classify a n-bit NPN functions as a function of n-1-bit NPN functions. In addi-tion, we determine that approximate classification is always possible, with certain NPN classes being perfectly classified while others are not. Moreover, we can observe a direct relationship between the learnability of certain classes and the speed of finding a solution for these classes when used in a logic game. Finally, we show that the approximation of the classification using machine learning can replace standard database-based classification. The advantages of machine learning methods are end-to-end learning, the lack of circuit design requirements for classifi-cation, and the ability to easily learn the class distinction problem. © 2023 Old City Publishing, Inc.

STEM is an educational curriculum based on educating students in four core areas - science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In addition to providing basic knowledge from four areas, students also develop their logical thinking and their ability to solve problems. Thanks to the STEM program, in the USA or Great Britain, the number of qualified workers know how to control the latest technologies, come up with new knowledge, has significantly increased. Despite the fact that economics belongs to the social sciences, in the current era of data-oriented decision-making, it is part of all areas of our lives. It is therefore important that our students also acquire skills in the field of technical sciences during their studies. The field of IT, where these skills are essential, is manifested by a significant imbalance in the employability of students on the labor market, especially from the point of view of gender. Based on statistics, female show a long-term lower interest in working in IT. There are several reasons. By studying the available statistics, analyzing the study results of our female students in STEM subjects, we tried to identify the most problematic areas and propose the implementation of appropriate solutions to change this unfavorable situation. © 2024 IEEE.

These days, artificial intelligence applications are proliferating, and data-driven decision-making is becoming indispensable in many spheres of life, especially in business. It is crucial that graduates of the educational system not only have a sufficient level of practical skills in the use of various computing applications. More emphasis needs to be placed also on the ability of students to identify the problem, to understand and determine the data that are currently collected, or need to be collected, ability to evaluate not only data quantity but also quality and then to work correctly with the data, depending on the area of their implementation. Numerous job positions in the labor market require some level of dealing with data, although they may not identify themselves in the data analysis field. The fields of economics and public administration management, which we teach our students, significantly intersect with the processing and analysis of data. Therefore, it is essential to include these topics in their education. By analyzing students' different assignment types, we have discovered the insufficient level of understanding and competence of our students in this field. Thus, to enhance the educational process, we will try to highlight the problematic parts and suggest alternatives. © 2024 IEEE.

A fuzzy method of recognizing color label for controlling the movement of actuators the mechatronic complex

The hardware and software model for controlling the movement of actuators in the mechatronic complex based on a fuzzy method of recognizing the color label is presented in the article. The main task of this complex is to capture moving objects in real-time. Fixation of objects is carried out in two modes: manual and automatic. In manual mode, the grip is carried out by the operator. In automatic mode, a set of magnetic sensors is used for fixation, which monitors the location of the actuators of the mechatronic complex and a laser sensor or technical vision system that determines the location of the moving object. The main problem in the automatic mode is to determine the moment at which the axes of the moving object and the gripper are aligned. A fuzzy model for determining the time of the moment of alignment of two axes was developed in the article to solve this problem. Also, a fuzzy method of recognizing a color label based on the approach of area’s ratio is shown in the article. The novel contribution of a proposed method is the fuzzy segmentation scheme used for detecting the colored mark by image processing. A distinctive feature of a defuzzification model is the usage of a universal formula to find the area of geometric shapes. As a result, the time of defuzzification was reduced to 65 ns. It allows to use the proposed method in real-time systems, for example, in video processing systems with resolutions 1024 × 768 and 25 fps. The article presents a numerical simulation of the process of fixing a moving object, which confirms the effectiveness of the proposed solution. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

This paper introduces a novel methodology for enhancing software effort estimation accuracy by incorporating observed ratings into measuring project similarity. Unlike traditional methods that rely only on historical project data, the proposed method leverages observed ratings to identify influencers within the dataset. These influencers serve as critical references that guide the estimation process, transforming project representations into a fully specified space where the similarity between projects can be accurately calculated. The significance of our method is that it overcomes the limitations of existing effort estimation methods by incorporating additional contextual information provided by observed ratings, thereby improving effort estimation accuracy. Experimental results on the ISBSG dataset show that our approach achieved better Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) results than other neighbor-based effort estimation methods. Our approach offers a promising avenue for more accurate and data-driven effort estimation, enabling informed decision-making in software project management. © 2024 The Authors.

Drones, also known as Crewless Aircraft (CAs), are among the most versatile and rapidly advancing technologies of the modern era. Recently, this technology has found numerous applications in the transportation sector, including traffic monitoring and traffic engineering to enhance overall traffic flow and efficiency. Due to their non-linear characteristics and under-actuated design, CAs serve as an excellent platform for the study of control systems. There is continuous interest in hardware and software advancements to improve their fundamental control characteristics. This paper presents the outcomes of the SkyHawk project, which developed a proof-of-concept novel drone designed for enhanced efficiency. The project aims to explore various technologies related to the field of electrical engineering, including embedded systems engineering, power command and control for sensorless BLDC motors, electromagnetic compatibility engineering, control systems theory, and more. This is achieved by breaking down the drone's systems into modules, each represented by its own printed circuit board, totaling five, along with auxiliary parts. These components work together to control a pair of sensorless BLDC motors mounted on servo pivots. The drone can be controlled either through modules connected to a personal computer using software developed for the SkyHawk project or through a specially designed remote control. Control diagrams and graphs are presented to demonstrate the hardware efficiency and control effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

The Longest Common Substring of two strings is a character sequence that appears in both texts and is the longest of these. The method is widely used in several text similarity measurement methods, usually used multiple times on the same textual data. There are several already known methods to solve the problem, but these are mostly based on very time and memory intensive procedures. This paper presents a novel data-parallel model to solve the same problem, available for GPU implementation. As our experimental results show, the data-parallel implementation is significantly faster for long textual data. © 2023 IEEE.

Understanding road accidents is very important nowadays, especially if self-driving is the long-term technological goal. However, uncovering the causes of a particular accident is a very complex issue, so applying fuzzy methods can help solve the problem. In most cases, the accident is caused by human mistakes, such as speeding, but the environmental conditions must be examined regardless. The curve and the slope of the road, as well as the weather conditions, can cause the accident, so in many cases, it can be more useful if the route is planned based on the characteristics of the road in certain cases. This article presents the fuzzy-based risk estimation of certain properties of road features and possible parallelism possibilities. In addition, statistics on the environmental conditions of individual accidents in Hungary and their conclusions will be presented. © 2023 IEEE.

Determining the similarity of source codes is still a researched topic today. There are several ways to answer the question of whether two source codes are similar, and if so, how much. These methods can be divided into four major categories, one of which tries to process and compare the source codes in text form. In this paper, we present such a text-based approach based on the longest common subsequence. As our experimental results show a significant improvement in terms of similarity detection can be achieved with this method. © 2023 IEEE.
