In the paper, a Data Mining-based methodology to identify electricity consumption patterns that characterize the behaviour of end users in the low voltage active electric network of distribution network operators is proposed. It involves retrieving consumption data (active and reactive power profiles) from smart meters (at the central level, for example, house) and local sensors to collect information about household appliances and equipment to identify usage habits and preferences of end users. The methodology discovers the electricity consumption patterns and trends associated with each end user using data mining techniques based on clustering algorithms regardless of whether they are part of the end-users' category. The proposed methodology used the data uploaded from the Pecan Street database sampled at 1 minute, ultimately identifying the consumption patterns of all equipment and appliances monitored at the level of end users. The patterns obtained will be integrated in the next stage where the energy consumption will be subject to an optimization process to reduce electricity bills for the end users. © 2024 IEEE.

Online signatures are one of the widely accepted biometrics used for the purpose of authentication and identification. Although there are several approaches and algorithms used in online signature verification systems, nowadays machine learning algorithms are leading the field. In this paper, an online signature verification system based on logistic regression is presented. The SVC2004 database was used to test the accuracy of the system by applying different combinations of features. The results showed that we could achieve accuracies between 91.7% and 98.08%. © 2023 IEEE.

Today, eye-tracking technology has numerous applications across various fields, including robotics research and neuroscience. Numerous eye-tracking devices are available, each differing in performance, cost, durability, and efficiency. This paper introduces a highly effective and relatively low-cost eye-tracking device used to develop a human-machine communication system. This system is designed to assist individuals with neuromotor disabilities in communicating with their external environment. For patients who are completely paralyzed but can still move their eyes, this capability is leveraged to help them express themselves. A graphical interface has been created, offering options tailored to the patient's needs, which they can choose by focusing their gaze on specific icons. By utilizing the cursor control feature of the eye tracker software, the user can easily navigate the graphical user interface and compose messages using a virtual keyboard. To control the mouse, the user simply moves their gaze from one point to another. For clicking, they need to fixate their gaze on a point for just 1.5-2 seconds. Our tests yielded very promising results, enabling the writing of phrases within a few minutes. Additionally, the interface connects with email and WhatsApp to send these phrases. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper addresses the critical aspect of resource planning in a service context through an integrated predictive and prescriptive approach. Utilizing real-world data from a company providing repair and maintenance services, we demonstrate the use of an XGBoost model to forecast ad-hoc service demands and subsequently optimize resource assignment using a mathematical model. Our findings show that the prediction evaluation metrics significantly improve, highlighting the superiority of complex machine learning models over baseline models such as Linear Regression. Furthermore, the integration of the prediction into the decision-making process resulted in a 26.4% lower decision error compared to the baseline model. Our research also found that the deviations in prediction and optimal objective function values are not aligned. While the average error for MAE % in prediction is 22.2%, the error for the optimal objective function is much lower, reducing to 5.3%. However, although true for our case, this might not be generalizable. Furthermore, when comparing the baseline model with these results, it is also shown that an improvement in prediction accuracy also improves decision making error. Our results indicate that a combined predict-then-optimize approach outperforms the existing methods in both predictive and prescriptive performance, demonstrating its applicability in real-world scenarios. © 2025 The Authors. The main goal of the paper is to develop an Optimal Power Flow calculation method considering the uncertainties of the wind power and the nodal loads modelled through the improved fuzzy models defined based on a clustering process of the active and reactive powers recorded hour by hour in the database of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems belonging to the transmission network and distribution network operators. The decision variables used in the optimisation process are represented by the positions of the on-load tap changers corresponding to the transformers from the electric substations (ultra-high/high voltage). The proposed approach has been tested in an electrical network with two voltage levels (ultra-high and high voltage) and two wind power plants integrated. The comparison with the results obtained using the real data from the analysed period (one day) indicated a mean absolute percentage error below 1% for the voltages from the high voltage nodes and the same total number of turns of the on-load tap changers which equip the power transformers from the network. © 2024 IEEE.

This investigation is focused on the effect of inclination angle with respect to the horizontal of a hydrophobic silicone insulation, on the rate of its creepage distance's wetting by natural rain. The constellation of rainwater drops obtained on the de-energized site is then reproduced in the laboratory, to quantify the effect of their volume on the humidification intensity of the inclined insulation's creepage distance, and therefore its electrical performance under different alternating voltage levels. For this purpose, two different experimental devices allowing the variation of the insulation's inclination angle were set-up. The first one is dedicated to the on-site display of silicone samples in natural rain. The second one allows the study of the applied voltage's effect on the wetting degree of the insulation's surface. All the performed tests were supported by camera visualization. On-site measurement results show a decline in the length of the creepage distance of the natural rain-wetted insulation with increasing its inclination angle. Laboratory results also show a decrease in the size of the insulation's wet surface with increasing its inclination angle. These two characteristics reveal two different intervals of critical inclination angles of the insulation, unfavorable and favorable, for the dimensioning of the insulators' sheds corresponding respectively to their minimum and maximum electrical performance. © 2024 Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The task of extracting information in the form of text from scanned or photographed objects using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is an important and ubiquitous technology for digitizing and indexing physical documents. Existing technologies have shown to work correctly with near-ideal documents, but if the document is visually degraded or contains non-text elements, the quality of OCR can be greatly affected, especially due to false detections. In this article, we present an improved detection network with a masking system to improve the quality of document recognition. By filtering out non-text elements in an image, we can use document-level OCR to include contextual information to improve OCR results. We conduct a single evaluation of a publicly available data set, demonstrating the usefulness and broad applicability of our method. In addition, we present data and calculation results of a categorical cross entropy function specially tuned to improve data discovery results. © 2023 IEEE.

Inclusive Design Thinking (IDT) is an approach that specifically addresses disadvantaged user groups and involves them in the innovation process. In recent years, IDT has emerged as a particularly promising approach for increasing citizen and patient engagement in the development of digital health applications. Although IDT is based on existing frameworks of design thinking and human-centered design approaches, there is still no overview of its methods for digital health solutions. Our aim was to develop such a systematic overview of the methods used, aligned with the design process, and thereby facilitate the practical application of IDT. 44 IDT methods could have been consolidated and assigned to the phases of the IDT process. This work provides the first systematic overview of IDT methods used for Digital Health (DH). Future work could expand on this and, for example, investigate the effectiveness of the methods in more detail. © 2024 The Authors.

This paper presents a method for mapping and analysis of electromagnetic background in an urban area. The uniqueness of our environment causes the inability to simulate electromagnetic fields of the real world as there is an unknown amount of sources and a near infinite amount of obstacles that could obscure the traveling wave or bounce it in a different direction altogether. The proposed method allows mapping an area of 64 hectares in less than 24 hours using only one person, antenna, software-defined radio, laptop, and optionally external drive to store data, which ensures the possibility of having multiple setups to multiply results. The general analysis of gathered data consists of three parts. The first is the compression ratio, a valuable byproduct of data compression for long-term storage. The second uses geographical locations to determine variance by distance, in a straight line and a cluster. The final tool for analysis is a Pearson's and Kendall's correlations to a baseline measurement to find potential errors and/or anomalies within a data set. © 2023 IEEE.

The article discusses the possible effects of Directive 2022/2555 of the European Parliament (EU) and of the Council of 14 December 2022 on measures to ensure an ordinary high level of cyber security in the Union and amending Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014 and Directive (EU) 2018 /1972 and on the repeal of Directive (EU) 2016/1148 (NIS2 Directive) and subsequently to it on the Act on Cybersecurity and on the amendment of related laws (Act on cyber security), which will have to be amended concerning the NIS2 directive and their possible impacts on information security management systems (ISMS policies). The contribution aims to describe the current state of implementation of the NIS2 directive into the legal environment using the example of the Czech Republic. To outline the possible procedure of applying the implemented directive into practice and possible impacts on subjects. © 2023 IEEE.
