Automatic Programming Assessment (APA) has recently become a significant method in assisting educators of programming courses to automatically mark and grade students' programming as its counterpart; the typical manual tasks are prone to errors and leading to inconsistency. By default, test data generation process plays an important role to perform a dynamic testing on students' programs. In software testing field, there have been diverse automated methods for test data generation. Unfortunately, APA seldom adopts these methods. Merely limited studies have attempted to integrate APA and test data generation to include more useful features and to provide a precise and thorough quality of program testing. Thus, we propose a framework of test data generation so-called FaSt-Gen to cover both the functional and structural testing of a program for APA. It aims to assist the lecturers of programming courses to furnish an adequate set of test data to assess students' programming solutions regardless of having the concrete expertise in the particular knowledge of test cases design. FaSt-Gen integrates the positive and negative testing criteria (or reliable and valid test adequacy criteria) to derive desired test data and test set schema. The findings from the conducted experiment depict that FaSt-Gen improves the reliability and validity test data adequacy in programming assessments.

Respiration rate is a critical sign of a person's wellbeing. The respiration rate of an adult subject was measured for eight minutes using a thermal imaging technique. A suitable algorithm was used to locate and track the respiration region of interest centred on the tip of the nose. The effectiveness of short time Fourier transform (STFT) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) to determine respiration rate variations over time was investigated. The study indicated that both STFT and CWT can indicate respiration rate time variations, but CWT was more sensitive in detecting the transient changes in respiration signal.

This paper evaluates a situation where two organisations, in the field of encouraging digital inclusion, targeted the same population with the same intent, but with different modes of engagement. This entailed reaching outward, making contacts with those to whom the benefits of the digital realm could make a significant difference to their lives. Both involved the 'More Knowing Other' to engage the tacit knowledge of that part of the population that was considered 'hard to reach'. Success would be deemed to be the number of challenged individuals who by engaging with the proximal zone of development could acquire digital literacy as a consequence. The two ways in which this process was conducted is the subject of this paper. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

This paper explains how to evaluate and analyse inconsistent Resource Description Framework (RDF) data by using EMAGE semantic (RDF) dataset as its use case. The author exploits the sub graph matching powers and mathematical functions of SPARQL query in evaluating inconsistent RDF data in a semantic dataset. He also proposes a mathematical method for calculating the amount of inconsistency in RDF data through a graph search approach. Finally, He analyzed the evaluated inconsistent RDF data.

Transactional systems are core to much business activity;however leveraging any advantage from the data in these enterprise systems remains a challenging task for businesses. To research and discover the hidden semantics in transactional data, Sheffield Hallam University has incorporated Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) into two of its degree courses. We present a learning, teaching and assessment (LTA) method that integrates with this research. To make it reflect industrial practice and to further the state of the art of the research, this method includes the use of ERPsim. This large scale, real-world business simulation software is based on the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) enterprise system by SAP A.G., a global business software vendor. Together with a mix of individual and group work approaches, FCA tools (namely FCA BedRock, In-Close and Concept Explorer) and comparisons with alternative approaches, it is emerging that FCA can fulfil an important role in transactional systems and enhance its role in Business Intelligence (BI). © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Cellular manufacturing has been proposed as an approach to cope with the uncertainty characteristic of customer driven markets. However, even cellular manufacturing systems are prone to the effects of varying demand patterns. In this study, the effects of some aspects related to demand variation such as the arrival of material, the variety of products and the variation in product mix are investigated to identify those system characteristics that -within the context of cellular manufacturing systems- represent an advantage in the presence of such disturbances. To do so, discrete event simulation is used to conduct the experimentation by modelling a cellular manufacturing system. Additionally, statistical design of experiment is employed to identify the factors contributing to higher system performance. The results show that, in spite of the demand related disturbance, machines with low setup duration and highly skilled operators constitute the most important characteristics of an efficient manufacturing cell.

Search and rescue operations often require complex coordination of a range of resources, including human and robotic resources. This paper discusses a proposed new framework that allows agent technology to be used in conjunction with a virtual environment to provide a human controller with an effective visualisation of the distribution of a collection of autonomous objects, in our case, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) so that they can be managed in a way that allows them to successfully complete the task in the minimum possible time. It is our contention that to do this effectively there needs to be two-way initiation of verbal conversations, but that it is not necessary for the system to completely understand the conversations required. An example scenario is presented that illustrates how such a system would be used in practice, illustrating how a single human can communicate with a swarm of semi-autonomous actors verbally and envisage their activities in a swarm based on the visual cues provided within the virtual environment. An agent-based solution is proposed that meets the requirements and provides a command station that can manage a search using a collection of UAVs effectively. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

The aim of this paper is to present the results of multidisciplinary cooperation of university scientists in the field of electronic engineering and computer science, education and rehabilitation science, psychology and graphic technology, focused on developing assistive technology for persons with complex communication needs. Based on the needs of participants with complex communication needs and final results of project, several services were developed: Body of Knowledge and three applications for ipad such as Communicator for users to establish communication, Mathematical carousel for learning basic mathematical operations and e-Gallery to improve the development of communication skills and skills for sentence ordering and short story telling. © 2013 MIPRO.

Textual information written in Chinese now represents a huge knowledge repository. The first step of managing and processing information in written Chinese text is segmentation. A new method for automatic Chinese text segmentation using evolutionary algorithms and Web search statistical data is outlined. This proposed method considers Web text a de facto corpus that updates automatically, thus eliminating the need for statistics training. It treats the segmentation as a process that finds out the best probability of how individual characters are combined into sentences, paragraphs, and articles, thus producing segmentation results that are tailored to the text in question and are independent of segmentation standards.
