Repetitive processes make a series of sweeps, or passes, through a set of dynamics defined over the finite pass length. Once a pass is complete the process resets to the starting location ready for the start of the next one. On any pass, the output, or pass profile, generated on the previous one acts as a forcing function on, and therefore contributes to, the dynamics of the new pass profile. These processes are a class of 2D systems where the novel control problem is that the sequence of pass profiles generated can contain oscillations that increase in amplitude from pass-to-pass. These oscillations cannot be removed by standard control action and therefore a 2D systems control theory for them has been under development over the pass two decades. This paper demonstrates that, unlike much of the control theory for other 2D systems, repetitive processes have applications that have led to experimental verification of control laws.

This paper presents an alternative approach to classical box counting algorithm for fractal dimension estimation. Irrelevant data are eliminated from input sequences of the algorithm and a new fractal dimension, called efficient fractal dimension (EFD), which is based on the remaining sequences is calculated. The discriminating capacity and the time efficiency of EFD are evaluated in comparison with fractal dimension (FD) computed by box counting both theoretically and empirically. The results revealed that EFD is better than FD for texture identification and classification.

Tactile sensing plays an important role in robot hand manipulation. This papers presents an analysis of the raw values produced by a biomimetic tactile sensor and the proposed solution organized in a pipeline processing structure to overcome the signal's noncompliances and issues for further processing. Even if this paper focuses on the data generated by the SynTouch BioTac sensor, the results and implemented modules can be applied to a wide range of tactile sensors.

The objective of this paper is to design a real-time control solution for chemical processes, namely the ethylene reactor, the key-installation in the petrochemical industry. The controller used is lag or lead controller, a simple yet suitable control tool. This article deals with the problem of finding all first order controllers that stabilize a given LTI continuous time or discrete time plant and attain various performance specifications. The main tool for the controller design is Neimarks D-decomposition, which was originally introduced in 1949 in the Russian control literature. The process data have been measured from an assembly of pyrolysis reactors on the petrochemical platform from Pitesti, Romania.

The article presents a solution for the teleoperation of a robot hand and arm designed as a complex system that captures human motion and controls the robot into mimicking the human actions. This hybrid system allows the robot execution to be guided by human actions, therefore decreasing the planning complexity and allowing the robot to perform more complex movements and to use the human capacity of adapting to unexpected situations.

The paper proposes a quasi-continuous implementation of a continuous control design for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). Based on an idea of exact linearization, the authors present a direct-decoupling structure for the PMSM. The main focus of our research is to develop nonlinear control algorithms for the PMSM, which are highly applicable for real-time digital implementation. In this paper, we present a new technique for detecting and localising defects in metallic structures, using ultrasound non-destructive inspection. This technique consists in applying a dual path inspection and the matched filter to a stepped frequency-type signal. This new technique is compared with classical non-destructive testing approaches. An experimental setup is presented that allows us to validate the proposed method.

The platform is called S4I and it is based on a three layer scalable architecture, facilitating communication interoperability.
