Everybody has at least one email address nowadays. We keep in touch with family, friends, business partners by email. We receive news, notifications and advertisements by email. We subscribe to different newsletters that we also receive by email. But don't you hate it when your inbox gets all crowded with messages and you're having trouble finding exactly the one email you need? We all hate those moments. Common email clients allow us to sort emails by date, by sender or even by subject. But that is not always enough. This paper proposes the design and validation of an automatic system for clustering email messages based on semantic meaning. Our system is based on the clustering by compression technique, which has proven its capabilities during previous tests.

The paper presents a virtual platform implemented in SystemC based on AMBA-bus standards. The platform has been implemented as a multi-core structure with all components required by typical electronic embedded systems. The structure allows flexible modeling and simulation of various applications composed of many cooperating components. Thanks to used high level abstract tools (SystemC) and modeling strategies (TLM), the projects implemented on this virtual platform could be efficiently verified and reused. The work presents results of some of designs simulated on the platform which could be used for design space exploration purposes.

The paper presents optimized hardware structure applied to genome alignment search. The proposed methodology is based on dynamic programming. The authors show how starting from the original Smith-Waterman approach, the algorithm can be optimized and the evaluation process simplified and speeded-up. The main idea is based on the observations of growth trends in the adjacent cells of the systolic array, which leads to the incremental approach. Moreover various coding styles are discussed and the best technique allowing further reduction of resources is selected. The entire processing unit utilizes fully pipelined structure that is well balanced trade-off between performance and resource requirements. The proposed technique is implemented in modern FPGA structures and obtained results proved efficiency of the methodology comparing to other approaches in the field.

This work presents a novel approach to SAT solving problem based on commonsense reasoning methodology. The methodology has been implemented and tested in PROLOG. Discussion of different modern approaches to the satisfiability that have been published recently is presented. A parallelism between the SAT solving problem and non-monotonic extensions verifying is given. The new algorithm of SAT solving based on fuzzy default reasoning (FDL) theory FUDASAT and cumulativity of CNF formulas is defined. Optimal backtracking search methodology is explained on examples. Some experiments on various benchmarks show the efficiency and advantages of the proposed methodology.

The paper presents a package of arithmetic operation synthesis dedicated to reconfigurable logic controllers programmed according to IEC1131 and EN61131. The program is compiled to hardware structure with a massive parallel processing. The developed method automatically allocates resources and operations. It controls resource usage and operation timing. Using mixed concept of operation allocation that considers operation timing and forms combinatorial chains of operations number of execution cycles can be reduced. Finally an example of PID controller implementation is considered and compared with previous manual implementations. Introducing the automatic implementation method allows flexible implementing the control algorithms. The maximal possible parallelism (limited only by the algorithm dependencies and available resources) is introduced.

Research undertaken for the behavior of “human expert” showed that it is specific to its highly nonlinear behavior, with the effects of anticipation, integration, prediction and adapting itself to the concrete conditions of operation. control processes using fuzzy logic controllers from this point of view is more pragmatic and can be adapted to a much wider class of processes. This paper presents fuzzy control system of DC motor speed. Choice is justified by the large number of applications in electric drive systems. A correct diagnostics together with the early prediction of failure or malfunction of the system are the major issues in modern maintenance. Nowadays, the time-honored diagnostics may be inadequate and lead to omitting failures, resulting in higher costs of repairing damaged equipment. That is why the interest in intelligent diagnostics increases due to the possibility of better interpretation of the component status and early failure prediction. One of the ways of determining the device condition is to measure and analyze the temperature of multiple points on the device. Thermographics may show a beginning of significant wear of a component, and enable a repair or replacing before the failure appears. The paper presents the key aspects of the diagnostics with thermal images, including: technology mapping, mapping algorithms, together with a presentation of available software solutions.
