This paper describes the design and fabrication of an intelligent Irrigation control system that allows intelligent control of the water applied to the field at right amounts and times. The system should have the capabilities to measure the water content in the soil so water can be applied as needed. The WATERMARK soil moisture sensor based on the measurement of the soil tension will provide the measurement of the water content. The system measures the soil tension, soil temperature and rain status and records the data in a file for future reference. It will apply water to field if a certain level of soil water tension is reached. This intelligent Irrigation control system is suitable for universities, research centers and farms where a control of the soil water content is required. The system can be used to study the water requirements for crops so irrigation can be scheduled efficiently.

A new methodology for the design of control systems for real time applications is presented. It is proposed to have a first stage of assisted design of nominal systems with simulation based verification of the achieved performances. The control algorithm will then be improved by robustification to reproduce as good as possible the performances obtained in simulation on the real time process. Finally, a supervisor is implemented to optimize the thermo-energetic process and to compute the best choice for the reference signals.

A design and an implementation of a high performance control configuration for chemical and petrochemical processes and plants were been presented in this paper. We have proposed a hierarchical configuration of control by considering the external factors effects to assure the stability until the process operation. The study case in this paper was realized on a petrochemical plant which is a pyrolysis reactor that is located in the petroleum refinery of Pitesti, known as the greatest pole of oil separation and treatment in Romania. The proposed hierarchical configuration is organized on two levels of automation starting by data acquisition and theirs primary processing as low level of automation and then the optimization solution definition which represents the efficient operating decision of the pyrolysis reactor as a high level of automation in which a new approach of optimization was been proposed. During this application we have used some of the most recent automation software's that were planted in the ACPC laboratory computers, automaticcontrol and computersciencefaculty of Bucharest.

The subject of this paper is modeling of the influence of non-minimum phase plant dynamics on the performance possible from gradient based norm optimal iterative learning control algorithms. It is established that performance in the presence of right-half plane plant zeros typically has two phases. These consist of an initial fast monotonic reduction of the L 2 error norm followed by a very slow asymptotic convergence. Although the norm of the tracking error does eventually converge to zero, the practical implications over finite trials is apparent convergence to a non-zero error. The source of this slow convergence is identified and a model of this behavior as a (set of) linear constraint(s) is developed. This is shown to provide a good prediction of the magnitude of error norm where slow convergence begins. Formulae for this norm are obtained for single-input single-output systems with several right half plane zeroes using Lagrangian techniques and experimental results are given that confirm the practical validity of the analysis.

The control of plasma in nuclear fusion has been revealed as a promising application of control Engineering, with increasing interest in the control community during last years. In this paper it is developed a control-oriented linear model for the control of plasma current. For this purpose, it is provided a summary of the background necessary to deal with control problems in tokamak-based nuclear fusion reactors as it is the case of the future ITER tokamak. Besides, it is also given a review of the most used simulators and plasma models, with the aim of providing an adequate background for control engineers to derive their own control-oriented model or to choose the appropriate existing one. Finally, the proposed plasma model performance is proven in a current drive profile trajectory tracking problem using a modified anti-windup PIDbased control scheme.

An important issue in the analysis of two-dimensional electrophoresis images is the detection and quantification of protein spots. The main challenges in the segmentation of 2DGE images are to separate overlapping protein spots correctly and to find the abundance of weak protein spots. To enable comparison of protein patterns between different samples, it is necessary to match the patterns so that homologous spots are identified. In this paper we describe a new robust technique to segment and model the different spots present in the gels. The watershed segmentation algorithm is modified to handle the problem of over segmentation by initially partitioning the image to mosaic regions using the composition of fuzzy relations. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm to overcome the over segmentation problem associated with the available algorithms.

The paper presents concept of virtual resources (VR) which improve multilevel, remote Internet-based operation of real-time controlled industrial processes. In comparison to classical directly connected-to-plant operations, the VR-based system introduces all typical features of its flexible nature, hiding the unnecessary implementation details from the process operators. The user-suited, human-computer interfaces (HCI) improve cooperation between specialists who must carry out operating control of the process. Realisation of such a system is based on the concept of maximal usage of particular specialist's skills improving theirs cooperation. Although the proposed concept is dedicated to remote operating experimentation on real-time controlled industrial plants, it has also a more general aspect. As a case example, the cooperative operating control of a biotechnological pilot-plant is presented.

A non-linear iterative learning control approach is developed for application to stroke rehabilitation. The subject is seated in a robotic workstation and electrical stimulation is applied to their triceps muscle to assist the tracking of trajectories in a horizontal plane. In addition to rotation about vertical axes through the shoulder and elbow joints, the forearm is also permitted to elevate in order to provide full arm extension. A dynamic model of the human arm is first developed, and then constraints are introduced to overcome kinematic redundancy. The expressions necessary to implement the control law are derived, and experimental results confirm its ability to achieve a high level of performance in practice.
