The utilization of solar energy in grid-connected photovoltaic installations has become increasingly significant. This article introduces a photovoltaic system seamlessly integrated with a three-phase network. The system employing a five-level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) voltage source inverter is designed for a single-step connection to enhance power quality in the distribution network. The control technique employed for the efficient functioning of the photovoltaic system is based on the notion of instantaneous reactive power. Notably, this strategy is straightforward, operates the system throughout the day, and eliminates the need for Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) usage. The Pulse-Width Modulated (PWM) Current controller sends switching signals to the NPC multilevel inverter, which does a great job of dynamic performance under steady-state and transient situations. The proportional-integral controller regulates the voltage of the Uninterruptible Power Supply DC bus capacitors. The proposed system undergoes comprehensive simulation validation under various irradiation levels.

There is need to replace the traditional materials used in mechanical constructions with cheaper materials characterized by high durability and simplicity of manufacturing. An alternative technology is 3D printing technology that uses ABS material (poly (acrylonitrile-co-butadiene-co-styrene)). 3D printing technology ensures the rapid change of model dimensions and shapes at the prototyping stage and a relatively cheap cost of new elements. There are many plastic materials producers on the market for a 3D printer. In this paper two of them have been choosen to a comparison and their mechanical parameters have been determined. The modal analysis of this material was carried out and the obtained values of resonance frequencies were compared.

Globalization is making both developed and developing countries think about effective and efficient strategies that will advance their economies and social development. Throughout the history of civilization, engineering has played a critical role in economic development. Engineers are key not only in solving local problems but also in knowledge creation and knowledge transfer. Thus, it is imperative that technical know-how be supplemented with professional skills to develop an 'adaptive leader' who is capable of addressing the multiple challenges of an ever changing world. The key-question posed by the 21st century global economy to engineering educators and stake-holders is this: "How can education in science and technology help to reduce poverty, boost socio-economic development, and take the right decisions for sustainable and environmental compatible development?" To answer these questions, a global approach is needed: and this can only be accomplished by a "team" which has its roots in all regions of the world, i.e. which is enabled to think globally and then act locally. There's a need to establish effective engineering education processes of high quality around the world to assure a global supply of well-prepared engineering graduates. This paper describes the reasons for the creation in October 2006 of IFEES - the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies. It will describe the vision, mission, and key strategies of IFEES. It will also describe some of the initiatives currently underway and how the various engineering education stakeholders can leverage and benefit from engaging with IFEES, thus strengthening the organizational capacity of engineering education societies throughout the world. The paper will share plans to help members learn from each other's best practices and even failures and how those organizations that have been in existence for quite some time (ASEE was founded in the late 19th century) can contribute to the institutio

One of the techniques which can be used to quantitatively evaluate images statistically is the so-called random-walk approach. The resulting Hurst exponent is a measure of the complexity of the picture. Especially long, fine elements in the image, such as fibres, influence the Hurst exponent significantly. Thus, determination of the Hurst exponent has been suggested as new method to measure the hairiness of yarns or knitted fabrics, since existing hairiness measurement instruments are based on different measurement principles which are not comparable. While the principal usability of this method for hairiness detection has been shown in former projects, the absolute value of the calculated Hurst exponents depends on the technique to take the photographic image of a sample, to transfer it into a monochrome picture, and on possible image processing steps. This article gives an overview of edge detection filters, possible definitions of the threshold value between black and white for the transformation into a monochrome image, etc. It shows how these parameters should be chosen in case of typical textile samples and correlates the challenges of this novel method with well-known problems of common techniques to measure yarn and fabric hairiness.

In this paper, we establish a lower bound on the separation between two distinct solutions of a scalar Riemann-Liouville fractional differential equation. As a consequence, we show that the Lyapunov exponent of an arbitrary non-trivial solution of a bounded linear scalar Riemann-Liouville fractional differential equation is always non-negative.

This paper presents a simple and novel sensorless scheme for five-phase induction motor control. The power measurement is used for speed computation. The drive is controlled using direct torque control (DTC). Speed sensorless control scheme is tested under speed variation and load changes. The control method is simulated and implemented in real time on the DS1103 board.

This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper. This paper deals with the estimation of an unknown process transfer function in the presence of colored measurement noise. A three-step estimation procedure has been previously developed for transfer functions, the delay steps and the orders of which are known in advance. The procedure is extended to deal with transfer functions with unknown delay steps and orders. The auto-correlation function of the error between the process output and model output is utilized for evaluating the model fitness. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by a simulation study using a sample set of data in MATLAB.

The paper is devoted to study of the influence of rolling modes on the performance of powerful interconnected electric drives of a hot rolling mill under the action of an electromagnetic coupling circuit between the electric drives of the roughing and finishing groups. The action of the electromagnetic coupling circuit manifests itself in the form of the influence of impact loads of synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of direct current electric drives of the finishing group of the mill. The parameters of the electromagnetic coupling circuit are determined by the power supply scheme and equipment parameters. Values of impact loads applied to a synchronous motor depend on the rolling process parameters, in particular, the chemical composition of the rolled steel and the temperature of the ingot. The paper presents the results of calculating the rolling power for various rolling mode parameters. Using mathematical modeling in Simulink, numerical estimates of the influence of rolling modes on the magnitude of the voltage drop in the power supply unit and the drop in the angular velocity of the electric drive of the finishing group were obtained on the example of a wide-strip hot rolling mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC.
