Disrupted bandcount doubling in an AC-DC boost PFC circuit modeled by a time varying map

Power factor correction converters are used in many applications as AC-DC power supplies aiming at maintaining a near unity power factor. Systems of this type are known to exhibit nonlinear phenomena such as sub-harmonic oscillations and chaotic regimes that cannot be described by traditional averaged models. In this paper, we derive a time varying discretetime map modeling the behavior of a power factor correction AC-DC boost converter. This map is derived in closed-form and is able to faithfully reproduce the system behavior under realistic conditions. In the chaotic regime the map exhibits a sequence of bifurcation similar to a bandcount doubling cascade on the low frequency. However, the observed scenario appears in some sense incomplete, with some gaps in the bifurcation diagram, whose appearance to our knowledge has never been reported before. We show that these gaps are caused by high frequency oscillations.

In the article, the energy characteristics of a terraced house located in Kielce were assessed. The analyzed house was put into use in 1982. Due to the old manufacturing technology, mainly in the area of the materials used, to limit significant heat losses, it has been thermally renewed many times. The aim of the calculations was to indicate the financial benefits, in example to reduce the costs of maintaining the house and to provide its residents with the proper comfort of use of the building, also taking into account the health aspects. The analysis of the object was made in several stages. Proposed are changes reducing the demand for non-renewable primary energy Ep, using modern thermal insulation materials, joinery with low heat transfer coefficient and renewable energy sources. As a result, an energy-efficient building that meets WT 2017 was obtained. The annual demand for non-renewable primary energy EP was determined using the Certo 2015 program in educational version 1.3.3.0.

The procedure of harmonic insertion is generalized in this paper. Analytical expressions of the voltage spectra are derived. The insertion of the 3rd harmonic to the modulating signal, which is of particular interest, is considered as a special case. It is demonstrated in this case that the fundamental harmonic component of the phase and the line‐to‐line voltage is not affected by the insertion of the 3rd harmonic for sufficiently high values of the chopping ratio. However it has been shown that the higher harmonic spectrum is significantly improved as compared to the case of pure sinusoidal modulation. For different values of the fundamental component the optimal values of the amplitude of the third harmonic to be inserted have been calculated so that the distortion factor of the higher harmonic spectrum is minimized. Other cases of harmonic insertion are also considered which provide spectrum efficiency improvement. Experimental results are given which have been obtained by means of a microcomputer controlled PWM generator constructed for this purpose. Copyright © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Observations of β Lyr in four months of 2018 by three BRITE Constellation satellites (the red-filter BTr and BHr, and the blue-filter BLb) permitted a first, limited look into the light-curve variability in two spectral bands. The variations were found to be well correlated outside the innermost primary minima with the blue variations appearing to have smaller amplitudes than the red;this reduction may reflect their presumed origin in the cooler, outer parts of the accretion disk. This result must be confirmed with more extensive material as the current conclusions are based on observations spanning slightly less than three orbital cycles of the binary. The assumption of an instrumental problem and the applied corrections made to explain the unexpectedly large amplitude of the red-filter light-curve observed with the BTr satellite in 2016 are fully confirmed by the 2018 results. Accurately diagnosing sleep disorders is essential for clinical assessments and treatments. Polysomnography (PSG) has long been used for detection of various sleep disorders. In this research, electrocardiography (ECG) and electromayography (EMG) have been used for recognition of breathing and movement-related sleep disorders. Bio-signal processing has been performed by extracting EMG features exploiting entropy and statistical moments, in addition to developing an iterative pulse peak detection algorithm using synchrosqueezed wavelet transform (SSWT) for reliable extraction of heart rate and breathing-related features from ECG. A deep learning framework has been designed to incorporate EMG and ECG features. The framework has been used to classify four groups: healthy subjects, patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), patients with restless leg syndrome (RLS) and patients with both OSA and RLS. The proposed deep learning framework produced a mean accuracy of 72% and weighted F1 score of 0.57 across subjects for our formulated four-class problem. © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper presents a model-based predictive control implementation (FCS-MPC) with extended horizon prediction to address the resiliency problem and voltage/frequency deviations for hierarchical microgrids. The proposed framework integrates Software-Defined Networking (SDN) as a set of microservices, where prediction models enable effective coordination and enhance system reliability by including communication constraints. The control strategy considers the variability of communication latency and packet loss to adjust the shared references based on the secondary control’s spatial and temporal correlation. The system is subjected to four test case scenarios to analyze the impact of communications in distributed generation, plugand-play capabilities, and load fluctuations on the microgrid. The proposed SDN-based framework enables the resolution of slow dynamic responses to parameter variations, by exploiting the advantages of FCS-MPC. The prediction block in the proposed secondary control outperforms traditional communication methods in terms of latency, recovery time, and packet loss among distributed energy resources, improving hierarchical microgrid performance. © 2024, The Authors. Background: Systems Medicine is a novel approach to medicine, that is, an interdisciplinary field that considers the human body as a system, composed of multiple parts and of complex relationships at multiple levels, and further integrated into an environment. Exploring Systems Medicine implies understanding and combining concepts coming from diametral different fields, including medicine, biology, statistics, modeling and simulation, and data science. Such heterogeneity leads to semantic issues, which may slow down implementation and fruitful interaction between these highly diverse fields. Methods: In this review, we collect and explain more than100 terms related to Systems Medicine. These include both modeling and data science terms and basic systems medicine terms, along with some synthetic definitions, examples of applications, and lists of relevant references. Nanoplastics have been widely studied as environmental pollutants, which can accumulate in the human body through the food chain or direct contact. Research has shown that nanoplastics can affect the immune system and mitochondrial function, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Lungs and macrophages have important immune and metabolic functions. This study explored the effects of 100 nm PS-NPs on innate immunity, mitochondrial function, and cellular metabolism-related pathways in lung (BEAS-2B) cells and macrophages (RAW264.7). The results had shown that PS-NPs exposure caused a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, intracellular ROS accumulation, and Ca2+ overload, and activated the cGAS-STING signaling pathway related to innate immunity. These changes had been observed at concentrations of PS-NPs as low as 60 μg/mL, which might have been comparable to environmental levels. Non-target metabolomics and Western Blotting results confirmed that PS-NPs regulated prostaglandin B1 and other metabolites to cause cell damage through the cGAS-STING pathway. Supplementation of prostaglandin B1 alleviated the immune activation and metabolic disturbance caused by PS-NPs exposure. This study identified PS-NPs-induced innate immune activation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic toxicity pathways, providing new insights into the potential for adverse outcomes of NPs in human life. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

This paper presents the new laboratory test rig of the vertical axis flexible shaft supported by two active magnetic bearings. Behind the motivation of establishing this setup is the control of vibration modes of the flexible rotor - shaft assembly, while the rotational speed varies and the unbalanced mass on the whirling disc is introduced to the system. The proposed model is aimed to simulate real operation conditions of the rotating machinery with an applied external load, with a variable structure caused by a change of material properties of the rotor - shaft assembly, or due to a fault of some elements coupled with the rotor.
