The paper aims to present a comparative study related to different approaches regarding prediction of multi-variable physical data. Data are provided by natural phenomena with geographical distribution (especially ecological and meteorological) and are stored as blocks of time series. Simulations have shown that the prediction accuracy of data increased with their correlation. Three modeling approaches of data are considered: MIMO-ARMA type, a state representation of Kalman-Bucy type and MIMO-ARMAX type. The performance of modeling and prediction algorithms is demonstrated on a meteorological case study.

This paper describes a scientific approach for controlling a transport system integrated in a manufacturing cell using a single programmable logical controller (PLC). A special data structure has been developed to gain easy access and manage the pallets processed in four working stations of cell. There have been designed complex communication protocols in order to allow PLC - robot interaction, protocols that use both digital I/O lines and TCP/IP.

Current advances in information technology and electronics allowed the passage from the classic centralized control approach to a fully decentralized control approach. In this context the paper proposes a new control concept in which the commands from a superior control levels are sent as recommendations and low level entities communicate between them in order to solve and optimize the task given as a recommendation. After introducing the control concept, an implementation aiming at production scheduling using a holonic approach is illustrated. The implementation was done on a job shop type production system containing multiple networked workstations.

The development and testing results of a newly designed clamp-on transit time ultrasonic flowmeter are presented. The microprocessor-based flowmeter was tested on steel pipelines of diameters ranging from 40 mm to 300 mm in some water plants and in the calibration station. The results of calibration have proved that the nonlinearity error of flowmeter is less than 1%.

The paper presents regulation characteristics that fulfill the requirements of highest possible efficiency and strongly reduced torque ripple level. For switched reluctance motors it is not so simple and obvious, because the regulation characteristics depend on three variables: phase voltage, switch-on and switch-off angles. For this reason in a steady state the same operation point (Tl, ω) of the mechanical characteristic is attainable for quite different values of those control parameters. So there is a field for quasi-optimal operation and the choice of the coresponding control parameters is the main subject of this work. The paper presents also the method to determine these quasi-optimal control characteristics from simple tests or from computations based on presented simple mathematical model.

While the $$H_\infty $$ observer-based control has found widespread application in the literature for integer-order systems, researchers have shown less interest in addressing the same issue within the fractional-order framework. In this context, this study delves into the application of $$H_\infty $$ observer-based control for the Hadamard fractional-order system (HFOS) described by the Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy models (TSFM). Using Lyapunov approach and by employing a matrix decoupling technique, LMI based conditions ensuring the existence of an observer and controller, are proposed. To minimize the impact of disturbances on the controlled output, $$H_\infty $$ optimization technique is used. The validity of our approach is substantiated through an example, underscoring the robustness and reliability of our proposed findings.
