This paper presents a practical laboratory for student education purpose in Distributed control Systems, with focus on applications for high voltage transmission substations. The monitoring, control and protection part is realized with a software platform and IED devices manufactured by AREVA TD France, while the primary equipment, like circuit breakers and disconnectors are simulated with latched relays. The system architecture and communication network are reproducing a real one usually used in transmission substations. The implementation of this laboratory, both through specific laboratory works and experiments, makes the theoretical part to be supported by a practical experience, resulting in future graduates with added value in the electric power industry. © 2020 IEEE.

Maintaining strong consistency and throughput in distributed NoSQL systems is very important these days, but often impossible to achieve at the same time. Consistency problems in distributed systems result in serious consequences, e.g. data loss, while throughput problems lead to poor system performance. This paper goes beyond solving consistency issues in distributed NoSQL systems and addresses the important problem of ensuring high throughput in such systems at the same time. To this end, we proposed a novel architecture of the layered NoSQL system that enables greater throughput by using replication of data items in a dynamic way while still preserving strong consistency. It is characterized by high availability, enhanced throughput, strong consistency, and space scalability. This system was built on top of a very efficient NoSQL system, called Scalable Distributed Two-Layer Data Store (SD2DS). To develop our system, we identified and analyzed the inconsistencies in the case of SD2DS architecture with increased throughput in the case of concurrent operations execution, as well as in the case of unfinished operations. The theoretical correctness of the proposed solution was proved. Its performance was experimentally evaluated in comparison with common NoSQL systems such as MemCached and MongoDB. The results confirmed its superiority in terms of performance, so it can successfully compete with publicly available solutions. It makes it possible to use the SD2DS system in practical IT systems that require high performance and consistency.

The paper discusses a data science competition centered around the development of an anomaly detection system for IoT devices. The competition utilized a unique environment that allowed for the operation and monitoring of real IoT devices, including scheduling of attacks on these devices. The environment was used to collect the data, which included both normal and attack-induced behavior of IoT devices. The paper presents the background of the competition, the top models submitted, and the competition results. The paper also includes a discussion about restrictions related to the use of synthetic attack data as input for constructing anomaly detection systems.

In the medical system, it is crucial to hold patient past health records to give the correct treatment to the patient and ensure the medical practitioner's physical health safety. The 'PatiCare' patient healthcare monitoring system is a promising alternative to the conventional method of checking the human body and checking the patient health record. Despite the ongoing investigation, an outbreak of a pan-demic disease called COVID-19 it creates a situation involving exposure to a danger to medical practitioners. In this paper, we implement a Patient Care Monitoring system called PatiCare to reduce viral diseases affection risk. We use IoT and WEB service for communication with users or patients and take his past health record and a doctor can check remotely to his patient. Our implemented prototype gathers biomedical and orientation information through sensors and re-serves it in a WEB Server. A doctor or a medical practitioner is able to assign medicine remotely and monitor patient instant health. © 2021 IEEE.

Touchscreen controls for Future Flight Deck Design: Investigating Visual Parameters on Human-computer Interactions between Pilot Flying and Pilot Monitoring

This study is concentrated on investigating the different visual behaviors and HCI patterns between pilot flying and pilot monitoring while interacting with touchscreen controls on the flight deck. Twelve participants with flight experiences (M=1150, SD=4019.9) attended this research. The apparatus included Future Systems Simulator (FSS), eye tracker, and system usability scale (SUS). The designated scenario in the experiment was an instrument landing. All participants were required to perform two instrument landings in two different roles, pilot flying (PF) and pilot monitoring (PM). The order of role of randomized to eliminate practice effects. The results revealed that fixation counts of pilot flying were different among four AOIs, F (3, 9) = 10.58, p = .003, ηp2 = .78. On the other hand, the FC of pilot monitoring demonstrated a significant difference among four AOIs, F (3, 8) = 8.69, p = .007, ηp2 = .77. There was a significant difference between PF and PM on the subjective assessment of SUS total score, t (11) =3.85, p = 0.003, Cohen’s d= 1.11. The application of a touchscreen can integrate input and output in the same area for visual feedback. There is a rising need to simplify the future flight deck design based on the principle of human-centered design. Conclusion: The application of touchscreen flight controls may have the potential to facilitate single-pilot operations flight deck design in the future. TSCs considerations must be consistent with human information processing and pilots’ operational characteristics on the future flight deck. © 2023 The Aeronautical and Astronautical Society of the Republic of China. Diffuse horizontal irradiance (DHI) forecasts are critical for adopting solar photovoltaic technology. Yet, they can lack reliability given the limited and uncertain meteorological data available for desert areas. This research develops a new sine cosine dipper throated optimization (SCDTO) technique, targeting DHI prediction even given such data constraints. SCDTO uniquely hybridizes sine cosine metaheuristics, adept at exploration, with dipper throat optimization, providing focused exploitation. This hybridization aims to create a robust ensemble model capable of delivering reliable DHI predictions despite climatic uncertainty. The ensemble model, employing various input combinations, was rigorously evaluated across multiple meteorological stations. The SCDTO algorithm exhibited remarkable performance improvements, yielding substantial reductions exceeding 93% in root mean squared error and 98% in mean absolute error at key stations in Morocco, including Tan-Tan, Zagora, Erfoud, and Oujda. Comparative analyses against established optimization algorithms consistently underscored the superior predictive capabilities of SCDTO. Visualizations, including box plots and histograms, demonstrated SCDTO’s efficacy in minimizing prediction errors, particularly for Tan-Tan, Zagora, and Erfoud stations. Also, statistical validation through one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) further affirmed the significance of the proposed SCDTO method. Therefore, this hybrid metaheuristic optimization enables more accurate DHI predictions from limited meteorological data. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

The paper presents a programmable (using a 1-bit signal) digital gate that can operate in one of two OR or AND modes. A circuit of this type can also be implemented using conventional logic gates. However, in the case of the proposed circuit, compared to conventional solutions, the advantage is a much smaller number of transistors necessary for its implementation. Circuit is also much faster than its conventional counterpart. The logic gate was implemented in the 180nm CMOS technology and verified using Hspice simulations. There are many possible applications for this gate, mostly in artificial intelligence and pattern recognition algorithms implemented at the transistor level.

E-business offers to economic agents the opportunity to increase the efficiency of their activity, promote and offer their products and services on a large and diversified market. Often a single service, separately, does not meet all the needs of various categories and groups of customers. In such a situation, service composition can provide more technical, commercial, informational facilities than each separate component service can offer. There are many web-based frameworks used for e-business, but still with limitations. The paper presents a Services Composition Framework and a wise algorithm for e-business models, based on REST and SOAP web services. It is intended to be used for the development of e-business models, comprising stock market exchange, e-commerce, e-banking, etc. The customers can access the framework services, through Smartphones, on mobile and wireless communication channels. Within a Quality-of-Service performance analysis of the e-business Service Composition Framework, the response time and throughput for multiuser access simultaneous requests were evaluated. A stock market exchange service is considered, as an e-business service example, while Bucharest Stock Exchange information is the digital content source for data transactions.

In this paper, the problems related to cooperative control for the multiple mobile robot system (MMRS) is presented. The LIDAR sensor is employed to obtain the 2D map of the indoor space. The formation control and the leader-following algorithm are applied to control the MMRS moving in a specific formation. Additionally, this paper considers the scenario that the MMRS has to move to several targets in the indoor space with many obstacles. Therefore, the indoor travelling salesman problem-based Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is studied in this work to determine the optimal moving path of the MMRS. To prove the effectiveness and merit of the proposed methods, the simulation results are provided in this article.

In order to reduce energy consumption of the lighting system and improve the visual comfort of occupants in the illuminated area, it is essential to effectively and precisely control the illumination of the luminaires. The smart lighting systems can utilize the occupant's positional data to adjust lamps switching, leading to a significant decrease in energy consumption and an enhancement in illumination comfort. However, there are still several challenges associated with achieving precise and non-invasive multi-person positioning for smart lighting systems, and the implementation of the Occupant-Centric Smart Lighting System (OCSLS) is still pending. In this paper, using 3D reconstruction of human keypoints extracted from multi-view video, the robust positioning algorithm for multi-person is proposed. The algorithm achieves a positioning error of less than 0.3 meters by combining the constraints of epipolar geometry and the appearance characteristics of occupants for multi-view matching. Subsequently, a novel fine-grained model of the OCSLS is proposed through the integration of the Illumination Demand Matrix (IDM), which is derived from the distribution of occupant position, and the Illumination Supply Matrix Library (ISML), which is based on the characteristics of lighting area luminaires. Using the OCSLS model proposed in this study, the Occupant-Centric control (OCC) strategy is constructed through the optimization algorithm based on the autoencoder and the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm. A verification platform has been created, and the experimental results indicate a decrease in the energy usage of the lighting system by over 40%. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
