Estimation of importance for considered features is an important issue for any knowledge exploration process and it can be executed by a variety of approaches. In the research reported in this study, the primary aim was the development of a methodology for creating attribute rankings. Based on the properties of the greedy algorithm for inducing decision rules, a new application of this algorithm has been proposed. Instead of constructing a single ordering of features, attributes were weighted multiple times. The input datasets were discretised with several algorithms representing supervised and unsupervised discretisation approaches. Each resulting discrete data variant was exploited to construct a ranking of attributes. The effectiveness of the obtained rankings was confirmed through a rule filtering process governed by weighted attributes. The methodology was applied to the stylometric task of authorship attribution. The experimental outcomes demonstrate the value of the proposed research method, as it generally led to improved predictions while taking into account a noticeably decreased sets of attributes and decision rules. © 2024 The Authors.

The paper presents a method of assessing thermal comfort in office rooms, using data collected from Fitbit bracelets. The result is a fuzzy system for the level of thermal comfort that wants to meet two objectives: reducing the energy consumption in the building and fulfilling the thermal comfort for the occupants. The representative factors taken into account in this study are: air temperature, relative humidity, user activity, clothing level and skin temperature. The proposed fuzzy system was modeled and simulated in the Matlab/SIMULINK development environment, showing satisfactory results after the analysis of the data taken over a period of several days. © 2023 IEEE.

Smart agricultural systems require irrigation systems powered by renewable energy sources that are also adaptable for isolated areas without connection possibility to the electricity network or the water network. For such situations, in this paper, a solution is proposed using a wind turbine and a submersible pump to feed a water basin, subsequently irrigation is done by free fall. The developed solution is designed and simulated using a model of a medium-power wind turbine, and a battery storage element with the aim of providing the necessary electricity for irrigation of an agricultural area in Buzau, where there is a water deficit. © 2023 IEEE.

The classification and identification of blood cells from microscopic images is very important for the detection of serious diseases. To increase the efficiency of the identification and counting of cells from 8 classes such as Basophils, Eosinophils, Erythroblasts, Immature Granulocytes, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Neutrophils, and Thrombocytes, a special advance was taken using artificial intelligence for image analysis. This article proposes a collective intelligence decision system based on the fusion of individual decisions of four efficient convolutional neural networks, VGG 16, Xception, ResNet-50, and NasNetLarge. The fusion is based on the efficiency of each network's performance in recognizing (correctly classifying) the membership class of the analyzed cell. In this sense, a weight is established for each network associated with a certain class. The global system has better performances than each individual network and is better or comparable to those reported in recent works. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents the development of a system that uses fuzzy logic in order to evaluate the thermal comfort conditions expressed by means of a score by the occupants of an office room The inputs of the system are represented by three datasets relevant to the study: the air temperature, the positioning of the occupant and the level of activity carried out by the occupant. Based on the comfort score obtained, the HVAC system located at the room level will maintain a comfortable environment. The proposed solution also contributes to the minimization of energy consumption in buildings. In order to collect the data sets necessary for the study, we used the *** module as a wearable device. © 2023 IEEE.

Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues discussed lately due to its influence on human health. Particular attention is paid to air quality monitoring today and most developed societies have implemented weather and air quality monitoring stations in various locations inside or outside cities to monitor and reduce the effects of poor air quality. Modern standards and sensors have started to be used in recent years to monitor air quality. Conventional air quality monitoring systems, on the other hand, are not able to provide real-time air quality data with acceptable spatial and temporal resolutions at a low cost, so the challenge is to achieve low-cost and energy-independent solutions. Using modern technologies, e.g. Internet of-things (IoT), an original approach is proposed for building an air quality monitoring system considering low cost equipment and efficient energy autonomous approach. Smart cities have successfully implemented air quality monitoring systems that combine both hardware and software. The results presented in the paper show the viability of the proposed solution, exposing the designed solution and different ways of presenting air quality monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the proliferation of electronic devices, there is an ongoing creation of new data for each and every human. There is an ongoing debate about data because of the trade off that happens: security of the data versus the convenience of accessing the data. The exclusivity between the two can simply be narrowed by using a homomorphic encryption algorithm over one of the many blockchains available. This allows for the data to be available to the owner at any time, while also permitting for third parties to operate on the data while not leaking anything about the data involved in the computations. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Rehabilitation of patients with impaired grip functions involves standard exercise that should be repeated in a predefined sequence. They are aimed to gradually improve patients’ ability to grip and operate objects used in daily life. Rehabilitation robots, employing surface EMG (sEMG) as a diagnostic and feedback signal may be used to support these exercises and trace the rehabilitation progress. However, to properly employ exercise regimen, information about what force should be used to hold and operate various objects is needed. This work is focused on finding the correlation between the value of sEMG signal and the force required to grip a particular object. Calibration plots obtained that way will reduce the need for additional equipment, such as specialized gloves, and at the same time provide information needed for better exercise protocols. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The article is an introduction to quantitative analysis retinal blood vessels. The analysis uses an active contouring system to isolate blood vessels obtained by scanning with an Angio-OTC device. Green hydrogen becomes one of the most important of all other forms due to ecological issues, described in directives requiring the transformation to energy sources with the lowest possible carbon footprint. The application of the PhotoElectrochemical Cell where hydrogen is produced with the direct use of solar energy is the best solution. Bilayer and multilayered systems based on CuO, especially in combination with TiO2 seem to be the most frequently studied of all heterostructured nanomaterials when considering green hydrogen generation. The interface created between rough surface of CuO and smooth TiO2 surface ensures the highest photocurrent when the top layer is of about 150 nm. For CuO(top)/TiO2 heterojunction characterized by rough/rough interface, photoeletrochemical performance also improves with increasing thickness of the top layer up to 100 nm. The cathodic character of the photocurrent is observed for both TiO2(top)/CuO and CuO(top)/TiO2 bilayers. © 2025 The Authors
