Cloud service providers (CSP) provide on-demand cloud computing services, reduces the cost of setting-up and scaling-up IT infrastructure and services, and stimulates shorter establishment times for start-ups that offer or use cloud-based services. Task reneging or dropping sometimes occur when a task waits in the queue longer than its timeout or execution deadline, or it is compromised and must be dropped from the queue or as an active queue management strategy to avoid tail dropping of tasks when the queues are full. Reneged or dropped tasks could be resubmitted provided they were not dropped due to security reasons. In this paper, we present a simple M/M/c/N queueing model of a cloud computing physical machine, where the interarrival times and the services times are exponentially distributed, with N buffer size and c virtual machines running in parallel. We present numerical examples to illustrate the effect of task reneging and task resubmission on the queueing delay, probability of task rejection, and the probability of immediate service. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

The use of Agriculture Intelligent Systems (AISs) in Iraq has become popular among farmers. The greenhouse is a solution for plant growth, which uses an effective microclimate to simulate seasons and to use alternative energy sources like solar, thermal, and photovoltaic systems for microclimate control. Greenhouses are considered a successful solution with developments and achievements in the technology of this field. However, problems like high costs, difficulties in installation and maintenance, or the need for some procedures should be considered. Because Iraq is close to the equator (3669 km), it receives sufficient solar power. It also has large areas available for the building of solar greenhouse systems. The farmers need an affordable and functional smart greenhouse to enable and encourage them to use the environment efficiently. We intend to develop low-cost, accurate, and easy-to-use greenhouse systems controlled by artificial intelligence algorithms. Farmers will be able to control the greenhouse by using simple commands. Machine learning algorithms provide real-time and effective analysis that could support farmers in decision-making and provide relevant data for researchers and policymakers. AISs algorithms can lead to a sustainable and productive agriculture system. The system can be used in Iraq with sufficient government support and subsidy.

This paper describes a formation of hybrid coatings on a Ti-2Ta-3Zr-36Nb *** is accomplished by plasma electrolytic oxidation and a dip-coating technique with poly(adipic anhydride)((C6H8O3)n)that is loaded with drugs:amoxicillin(C16H19N3O5S),cefazolin(C14H14N8O4S3)or vancomycin(C66H75Cl2N9O24·xHCl).The characteristic microstructure of the polymer was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and confocal *** on the surface treatment,the surface roughness varied(between 1.53μm and 2.06μm),and the wettability was change with the over of time.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the oxide layer did not affect the polymer layer or loaded ***,the drugs lose their stability in a phosphate-buffered saline solution after 6.5 h of exposure,and its decrease was greater than 7%(HPLC analysis).The stability,drug release and concentration of the drug loaded into the material were precisely analyzed by high-performance liquid *** results correlated with the degradation of the polymer in which the addition of drugs caused the percent of degraded polymer to be between 35.5%and 49.4%after 1 h of material immersion,depending on the mass of the loaded drug and various biological responses that were ***,all of the coatings were cytocompatible with MG-63 osteoblast-like *** drug concentrations released from the coatings were sufficient to inhibit adhesion of reference and clinical bacterial strains(***).The coatings with amoxicillin showed the best results in the bacterial inhibition zone,whereas coatings with cefazolin inhibited adhesion of the above bacteria on the surface.

This document describes an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach to modeling a thermal area to predict energy consumption. We propose the architecture for the ANN and explore the optimal configuration which yields the best results in terms of accuracy. Additionally, we validate our approach by using 3 months' data from the Passive House from the campus of University “Politehnica” of Bucharest (UPB). We implemented neural networks with various thermal energy consumption modeling (black box, grey-box) to compare the results achieved between them, but also with state of the art purely mathematically models. The best results achieved a total error of only 1.87% or 4.3 RMSE - the model and optimization of the ANN are discussed in this paper.

Nowadays the Internet of Things (IoT) is not a novel and ambiguous phrase anymore. As IoT technologies such as smartwatches improve the quality of everyday living, people gradually rely more and more on connected devices. However, despite the exponential increase in popularity, the technologies used for connecting everyday devices and embedded computers to the Internet are still limited. While the range of programming languages and runtimes for web and desktop applications becomes wider, IoT development tools lack in diversity. In this context, this paper aims to adapt a new and popular programming language to be used for building Internet of Things applications. D is an accessible and widely used programming language, which is not currently designed to be used within the IoT domain. By adapting D to run on constrained devices, we desire to make IoT prototyping more accessible.

This work investigates the problem of state estimation for nonlinear triangular systems having additional output measurements. The main objective of this paper is to propose observer design strategies that account for the available additional information, which is difficult to consider using the standard high-gain observer methodology. To deal with this challenge, we propose a novel observer design method to handle the additional output measurements. This method can be thought of as an extension of the standard high-gain observer by introducing a weighting matrix as a tuning parameter, which uses both the high-gain methodology and the LPV/LMI technique. The proposed approach was applied to a nonlinear longitudinal dynamic model that uses extra measurement information, in addition to the measured longitudinal position of the vehicle.

The FreeBSD specific hypervisor solution, bhyve, is a mature virtualization solution that allows its users to configure the virtual machines in a robust manner by adding different types of devices. Moreover, the virtual machine state can be suspended for a later use by using the snapshotting mechanism. However, the existing snapshot mechanism can only store the state of one device of each type. This behaviour may be troublesome for entities that want to use the save and restore mechanism for virtual machines with multiple same type devices (e.g., two disks, two network interfaces) since it can lead to an inconsistent virtual machine state. This paper proposes a solution for extending this feature by allowing the saving and restoration of multiple devices of the same type, whenever they are used together.

One of the most engaging domains in the IT technology is represented by the Internet of Things (loT) area. IoT solution are more and more present in our lives: from the daily-use devices such as smart watches or rings, to more peculiar applications such as smart tables or smart home fragrances. As a result of this development, IoT technologies can become intrusive as they have access to a lot of our personal data and are able to control an increasing number of aspects of our lives. As a result, IoT is currently viewed by many individuals and companies from a security issue perspective. Many of the security threats related to the IoT technologies come from the way software and applications are implemented or from the programming frameworks used. What is more, as the applications become increasingly complex and the hardware devices increasingly constrained, many security mechanisms cannot be applied. The purpose of this paper is to present a multi-layer secure framework dedicated to hardware-constrained devices.

G. mellonella is a promising species for use in biodegradation of plastics. It is easy to breed and has high resistance to diverse climatic conditions, which is particularly valuable when considering its potential application in decomposition of plastics. Although it does not pose a direct threat to humans, the greater wax moth is a parasitic species in bee hives, contributing to the population decline of these insects. This species has demonstrated the capacity for biodegradation of the most common types of plastics, such as polyethylene and polypropylene (PP), and the intestinal microbiome is responsible for their degradation. However, there are no reports on whether consumed plastics or their decomposition products will adversely affect the structure and functioning of the internal organs. During our preliminary research, we investigated whether any degenerative changes appeared in cells of selected organs – midgut, silk gland, and fat body – under PP consumption by G. mellonella caterpillars (7th instar larvae). We also examined whether there was an increase in levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in selected organs, as well as the ability of larvae to survive and undergo metamorphosis. The research was carried out using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confocal microscopy, and flow cytometry. Our study on G. mellonella larvae fed with PP bags showed that a diet containing such plastic did not affect internal organs at the ultrastructural level. Cells in the analyzed organs – midgut, silk gland, and fat body – showed no degenerative changes. An increase in the intensity of autophagy and cell vacuolization was noted, but they probably act as a survival pathway. These observations suggest that the final larval stage of the greater wax moth can potentially be applied in PP biodegradation. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
