Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) are of great importance in identifying the genetic variants associated with traits/diseases. Due to the high number of candidate SNPs some filtering techniques are necessary to be applied. The aim of the study was to develop the comprehensive approach allowing for detailed analysis of both SNP-gene and SNP-miRNA-gene relations. We elaborated and optimized the novel signal analysis pipeline improving significantly the results of the analysis on genotype-phenotype interplay. Direct links between genotype results and gene expression levels were enriched by detailed analysis of SNP-miRNA-gene interactions at both mature miRNA structure/seed region and target binding site level. The proposed technique was applied to the data on lymphocyte radiation response and increased by almost 100% number of potential functional SNPs.

This paper deals with a new theoretic approach to a specific interaction of continuous and discrete dynamics in switched control systems known as a Zeno dynamics. We study executions of switched control systems with affine structure that admit infinitely many discrete transitions on a finite time interval. Although the real-world processes do not present the corresponding behavior, mathematical models of some interconnected engineering systems may be Zeno due to the corresponding formal abstraction. We propose a useful approximative approach to Zeno dynamics, namely, a projection based characterization of this phenomena. A resulting trajectory associated with the Zeno dynamics can finally be described as a result of a specific dynamic projection procedure applied to the original model. We use here the projected dynamic systems methodology. The obtained formal description provides an effective theoretic basis for a constructive treatment of the Zeno behaviour. We also discuss an application of the proposed technique to the conventional sliding mode control processes.

The aim of the present work is to reduce the gap between manufactures expertise and IT expertise and also reduces paper work drawbacks and its side effect on production execution management operation. The Lyapunov, Perron and Bohl exponents are the most important numerical characteristics of dynamic systems used in control theory. Properties of the first one are well investigated. Properties of the Perron and Bohl exponents are much less described in the literature, for example the questions about the structure of the sets of values of these quantities for general discrete-time systems are still open. In this paper we give an example of a two-dimensional system with bounded coefficients that have three different Perron exponents. In addition, we prove that the s-dimensional diagonal discrete-time system with bounded coefficients can have any number of different Perron exponents between 1 and 2~s - 1.

The past decades brought substantial improvements in quality of life, average life expectancy, and medical solutions to previously incurable illness. However, little progress has been made in healing or improving quality of life for cognitively impaired patients (Alzheimer, Lewy body dementia, vascular dementia, front temporal dementia, Parkinson's disease or corticobasal degeneration). The past years have brought forth numerous AmI solutions for monitoring daily activities of cognitive impaired patients, but their real world application is generally limited by privacy, price and deployment constrains. The current paper proposes a household object interaction system that uses a novel algorithm to provide information for behavioral monitoring while preserving intimacy and keeping real world implementation effort at acceptable levels.

In this paper, we use witness-function to capture attack scenarios in cryptographic protocols. A witness-function is a protocol-dependent metric that attributes a reliable security level to every atomic message. We use these functions to prove the protocol correctness with respect to secrecy by proving that the security level of every atomic message never decreases throughout all consecutive receiving and sending steps of the protocol. In this paper, we analyze the defective variant of the Otway-Rees protocol and we demonstrate that the use of witness-functions can be a key element in tracing a well-known type flaw that this protocol involves.

In this paper are presented several techniques used for improving the pupil detection algorithm based on a head mounted eye tracking system employing an infrared video camera. The coordinates of the eye pupil center obtained by any eye tracker device are affected by many noise sources. In order to improve the pupil detection position, several different techniques of real time filtering and high frequency spikes canceling from the signal provided by the pupil detection algorithm are presented. The optimal parameters of the real time filter, depending on the application sampling frequency, have been determined.
