On the link between explicit MPC and the face lattice of the lifted feasible domain

The paper provides a geometric interpretation for the explicit solution of the quadratic cost, linear-constrained MPC (model predictive control) problem. We link the face lattice of the lifted feasible domain (defined in the input and parameter space) with the critical regions which partition the parameter space and serve as polyhedral support for the piecewise affine explicit MPC solution. We provide geometric (face visibility) and algebraic (polyhedron emptiness) tests for the pruning of the candidate sets of active constraints.

In current granular clustering algorithms, numeric representatives were selected by users or an ordinary strategy, which seemed simple; meanwhile, weight settings for granular data could not adequately express their structural characteristics. Aiming at these problems, in this study, a new scheme called a granular weighted kernel fuzzy clustering (GWKFC) algorithm is put forward. We propose the representative selection and granularity generation (RSGG) algorithm enlightened by the density peak clustering (DPC) algorithm. We build interval and triangular granular data on the strength of numeric representatives obtained by RSGG under the principle of justifiable granularity (PJG), in which we establish some combinations of functions and boundary constraints and prove their properties. Furthermore, we present a novel distance formula via the kernel function for granular data and design new weights to affect the coverage and specificity of granular data. In addition, based upon these factors, we come up with the GWKFC algorithm of granular clustering, and its performance with different granularity is assessed. To sum up, a macro framework involving granular modeling, granular clustering, and assessment has been set up. Lastly, the GWKFC algorithm and ten other granular clustering algorithms are compared by experiments on some artificial and UCI datasets together with datasets with large data or those of high dimensionality. It is found that the GWKFC algorithm can provide better granular clustering results by contrast with other algorithms. The originality is embodied as follows. First, we improve the previous density radius and present the RSGG algorithm to acquire numeric representatives. Second, we propose a new strategy to determine granular data boundaries and further obtain novel weights enlightened by the idea of volume. The skin lesion can be thought of as a biological system, so the morpho-granulometry of significant color clusters found in skin lesions is one of the elements that reproduce in a natural way the structure of the lesion, this novelty is highlighted in this study. Important features of skin lesions can be modulated by fusing neural networks (NN) and machine learning (ML). By choosing the nevus and melanoma classes, the primary goal was accomplished, and three databases were used to test the methodology. The characteristics based on morpho-granulometry allowed for the identification of microstructure within the images, which can be very helpful in characterizing the biological system. Based on random forest (RF) and extreme gradient boosting (XGboost) classifiers, this work aimed to improve the classification performance of important feature selection. The selected features from three free image databases with three NNs were classified. In a binary classification of nevus vs. melanoma, the results showed that the pattern recognition neural network (PRNN), according to the PH2 database, provided an accuracy of 0.923 and an F1-score of 0.876. The classification is interpretable if it is not validated. In our study, the best results were verified with a logistic regression (LR) classifier.

MuS2: A Real-World Benchmark for Sentinel-2 Multi-Image Super-Resolution

Insufficient image spatial resolution is a serious limitation in many practical scenarios, especially when acquiring images at a finer scale is infeasible or brings higher costs. This is inherent to remote sensing, including Sentinel-2 satellite images that are available free of charge at a high revisit frequency, but whose spatial resolution is limited to 10 m ground sampling distance. The resolution can be increased with super-resolution algorithms, in particular when performed from multiple images captured at subsequent revisits of a satellite, taking advantage of information fusion that leads to enhanced reconstruction accuracy. One of the obstacles in multi-image super-resolution consists in the scarcity of real-world benchmarks—commonly, simulated data are exploited which do not fully reflect the operating conditions. In this paper, we introduce a new MuS2 benchmark for super-resolving multiple Sentinel-2 images, with WorldView-2 imagery used as the high-resolution reference. Within MuS2, we publish the first end-to-end evaluation procedure for this problem which we expect to help the researchers in advancing the state of the art in multi-image super-resolution. Currently, the use of cyber-physical systems is becoming widespread in various fields, primarily, because they enable many innovative functionalities through their networking. These systems include complex computation elements that interacts with the physical environment through sensors or actuators. Their solutions are based on sharing of hardware equipment and software services, targeting to provide added value proposition for various customers. The research and development in this domain are going on not only in the technical direction, but is also targeting the value creation for customers, in a technical and business-oriented manner. This paper presents a cyber-physical systems-based business model realized through services composition. The service composition framework integrates Web services which can be interconnected and can be accessed by mobile clients through smartphones, on mobile and wireless communications channels. The response time for multiuser requests for services access is evaluated, because it is an important quality of service performance criteria of our e-business model service composition framework. The results are promising.

Automated Ground Vehicles (AGVs) use deep-learning-based vision systems to perceive the surrounding environment and extract relevant information about it. Although deep learning models offer high capabilities, they require large amounts of data to be properly trained and tested. Testing is especially important when off-the-shelf models are used by the AGVs - to examine whether they can meet the demands of complex environments such as the production halls of automated factories. One area of such perception algorithms is object recognition. To test such systems, we propose a solution based on ArUco fiducial markers used for automatic labeling of objects. Our solution can be used to test deep learning systems in real time directly on a robot. Our solution requires minimal interference with the environment and additional infrastructure - the desired objects only need to be marked with a marker printed on a home printer. Therefore, the presented testing procedure can be used for testing of AGVs in real-life environments during a real ride from an actual robot perspective. Data gathered during the online testing can be used for the offline comparison of the accuracy of different deep learning models. Although we focus on the online and offline testing in our study, we also incorporated a marker masking procedure. Therefore, the resulting datasets may also be used for training.

The amount of data produced by modern sequencing instruments that needs to be stored is huge. Therefore it is not surprising that a lot of work has been done in the field of specialized data compression of FASTQ files. The existing algorithms are, however, still imperfect and the best tools produce quite large archives. We present FQSqueezer, a novel compression algorithm for sequencing data able to process single- and paired-end reads of variable lengths. It is based on the ideas from the famous prediction by partial matching and dynamic Markov coder algorithms known from the general-purpose-compressors world. The compression ratios are often tens of percent better than offered by the state-of-the-art tools. The drawbacks of the proposed method are large memory and time requirements.

Magnetic nanofibers are of great interest for applications like data transport and storage as well as in basic research. Especially bent nanofibers, which can unambiguously be produced by electrospinning, show a broad spectrum of possible magnetization reversal processes, depending on bending radius, geometry, magnetic field orientation, etc. Besides these quasistatic processes, dynamic investigations are necessary for investigating data transport properties of magnetic nanofibers. We report on domain wall transport through coupled bent nanowires, forming networks with multiple data inputs and outputs. Our results show diverse phenomena which have to be taken into account during these dynamic processes, such as domain wall instabilities or interference between converging signals, and suggest possible architectures of nanowire-based logics. ©2021 IEEE

With the development of communication technologies and the increasing bandwidth of optical fibres and transmission speeds in current 5G and future 6G wireless networks, there is a growing demand for solutions organising traffic in such networks, taking into account both end-to-end transmissions and the possibility of data processing by edge services. The most pressing problems of today’s computer networks are not only bandwidth and transmission delays, but also security and energy consumption, which is becoming increasingly important in today’s climate. Maintaining strong consistency and throughput in distributed NoSQL systems is very important these days, but often impossible to achieve at the same time. Consistency problems in distributed systems result in serious consequences, e.g. data loss, while throughput problems lead to poor system performance. This paper goes beyond solving consistency issues in distributed NoSQL systems and addresses the important problem of ensuring high throughput in such systems at the same time. To this end, we proposed a novel architecture of the layered NoSQL system that enables greater throughput by using replication of data items in a dynamic way while still preserving strong consistency. It is characterized by high availability, enhanced throughput, strong consistency, and space scalability. This system was built on top of a very efficient NoSQL system, called Scalable Distributed Two-Layer Data Store (SD2DS). To develop our system, we identified and analyzed the inconsistencies in the case of SD2DS architecture with increased throughput in the case of concurrent operations execution, as well as in the case of unfinished operations. The theoretical correctness of the proposed solution was proved. Its performance was experimentally evaluated in comparison with common NoSQL systems such as MemCached and MongoDB. The results confirmed its superiority in terms of performance, so it can successfully compete with publicly available solutions. It makes it possible to use the SD2DS system in practical IT systems that require high performance and consistency. © The Author(s) 2025.
