Separable, or Kronecker product, dictionaries provide natural decompositions for 2D signals, such as images. In this paper, we describe a highly parallelizable algorithm that learns such dictionaries which reaches sparse representations competitive with the previous state of the art dictionary learning algorithms from the literature but at a lower computational cost. We highlight the performance of the proposed method to sparsely represent image and hyperspectral data, and for image denoising.

This work presents a design and implementation of an enhanced healthcare monitoring system based on the web application framework and the cloud platform using four vital signs such as blood pressure, SPO2, body temperature, and electrocardiogram ECG. Innovative ECG modules were utilized for automatic diagnose like ECG filtering module and the DCNN-based ECG classification module. The solution provides various functionalities and privileges for the users in order to facilitate the work of doctors or emergency staff to monitor patients in order to provide medical support in a timely manner. Also, it supports patients by providing them with medical assistance through the remote interaction with medical professionals taking into consideration the security and privacy of sensitive medical data. © 2020, Politechnica University of Bucharest. A Unified Formulation of Geometry-aware Discrete Dynamic Movement Primitives

Learning from demonstration (LfD) is considered as an efficient way to transfer skills from humans to robots. Traditionally, LfD has been used to transfer Cartesian and joint positions and forces from human demonstrations. The traditional approach works well for some robotic tasks, but for many tasks of interest, it is necessary to learn skills such as orientation, impedance, and/or manipulability that have specific geometric characteristics. An effective encoding of such skills can be only achieved if the underlying geometric structure of the skill manifold is considered and the constrains arising from this structure are fulfilled during both learning and execution. However, typical learned skill models such as dynamic movement primitives (DMPs) are limited to Euclidean data and fail in correctly embedding quantities with geometric constraints. In this paper, we propose a novel and mathematically principled framework that uses concepts from Riemannian geometry to allow DMPs to properly embed geometric constrains. The resulting DMP formulation can deal with data sampled from any Riemannian manifold including, but not limited to, unit quaternions and symmetric and positive definite matrices. The proposed approach has been extensively evaluated both on simulated data and real robot experiments. The performed evaluation demonstrates that beneficial properties of DMPs, such as convergence to a given goal and the possibility to change the goal during operation, apply also to the proposed formulation. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

The paper presents research focused on decision reducts, a feature reduction mechanism inherent to rough sets theory. As a reduct enables to protect the discriminative properties of attributes with respect to described concepts, from the point of data representation, a reduct length is considered to be the most important measure of its quality. However, such approach is insufficient while taking into account the performance of a reduct-based rule classifier applied to test samples. When many reducts of the same length are available, they can lead to vastly different predictions. The paper provides a description for the proposed procedure for iterative reduct generation, which results in decrease of diversity in the observed levels of accuracy, supporting reduct selection. The procedure was applied for binary classification with balanced classes, for the stylometric task of authorship attribution. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Occupancy grid mapping is an important component in a road scene understanding for autonomous driving. It can encapsulate data from heterogeneous sensor sources like radars, LiDARs, cameras and ultrasonics. At the core of occupancy grid (OG) generation, there is usually an inverse sensor model (ISM), which infers the occupancy representation from the sensor readings. Traditional ISMs are characterized by a very rigid structure, suited only for one sensor type, and specific occupancy grid representation. This paper proposes a novel ISM framework, which offers a separation between free and occupied space, supporting both Bayesian and Dempster-Shafer OG representations. The framework is especially useful when dealing with multiple different sensors where custom or preselected probability distribution can be applied. The presented ISM architecture is modular and flexible, which is described in an illustrative example of application customized for different detection sources. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The paper is dedicated to the area of feature selection, in particular a notion of attribute rankings that allow to estimate importance of variables. In the research presented for ranking construction a new weighting factor was defined, based on relative reducts. A reduct constitutes an embedded mechanism of feature selection, specific to rough set theory. The proposed factor takes into account the number of reducts in which a given attribute exists, as well as lengths of reducts. Two approaches for reduct generation were employed and compared, with search executed by a genetic algorithm. To validate the usefulness of the reduct-based rankings in the process of feature reduction, for gradually decreasing subsets of attributes, selected through rankings, sets of decision rules were induced in classical rough set approach. The performance of all rule classifiers was evaluated, and experimental results showed that the proposed rankings led to at least the same, or even increased classification accuracy for reduced sets of features than in the case of operating on the entire set of condition attributes. The experiments were performed on datasets from stylometry domain, with treating authorship attribution as a classification task, and stylometric descriptors as characteristic features defining writing styles. © 2020 The Authors. This paper presents a case study of a rotor fault occurring in the rotor generator of a steam power plant located in Lontar, Banten Province, Indonesia. The steam power plant has 3 x 315 MV capacity and uses hydrogen in the cooling system. The issue arising during the operation was caused by heat transfer exceeding the normal level. The grounding of the rotor occurred through rising vibration and temperature, tripping the generator unit. During repairs, the axial spacer was replaced with a new model, where it is longer than the original, adding a bar spacer at a previously unavailable position and creating a cooling track profile. This is a case study on the replacement of the axial spacer model aimed at preventing the expansion of the winding, so as not to touch with each other, through the installation of a longer axial spacer and the addition of the spacer bar, and lastly adding the track profile to the cooling hydrogen gas flow thereby maximizing the cooling process from the end winding rotor generator. Heat transfer is an analysed parameter related to the model change of the axial spacer. The addition of a track cooling gas flow has been able to maximize the heat transfer process, which is simulated in this paper. The performance of the rotor generator increased through several parameters after the replacement of the axial spacer model. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
