In this paper the problem of joint state and parameter estimation of quadrotor is addressed. It was assumed that quadrotor is equipped with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and GPS module. Based on this instrumentation it was possible to estimate complete state vector describing the movement of rigid body, along with parameters related to its propulsion system and aerodynamic properties. Author original solution based on use of extended Kalman filter and complementary filter is presented. Performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated by means of numerical simulation.

This paper presents the new laboratory test rig of the vertical axis flexible shaft supported by two active magnetic bearings. Behind the motivation of establishing this setup is the control of vibration modes of the flexible rotor - shaft assembly, while the rotational speed varies and the unbalanced mass on the whirling disc is introduced to the system. The proposed model is aimed to simulate real operation conditions of the rotating machinery with an applied external load, with a variable structure caused by a change of material properties of the rotor - shaft assembly, or due to a fault of some elements coupled with the rotor.

As the Industrial Internet of Things evolves, ever more data acquisition devices are integrated inside factories, silos, agriculture facilities, industrial facilities, cars and many other applications. One of the most common measured parameter, that also creates the most problems in specific applications, is temperature. There is an abundance of analog temperature transducers, available for engineers and researchers, with varying precision, temperature range, linearity, power consumption, and cost. Besides invasive temperature sensors and transducers, in recent years microwave based temperature measurement methods have been developed. The current paper presents one method of reading thermocouples without the need of a high resolution ADC or digital calculation of complex polynomial functions. The article is focused on the linearization circuit, measurement results, errors and presents a short application using NI WSN nodes as part of IIoT.

Resource management in nowadays agriculture imposes the use of new technological solutions for automation and energy efficiency and this paper concentrates on the control of internal temperature of a greenhouse using parabolic trough collectors (GHPTC) for internal heating. The actuator for the GHPTC control system is the conducting fluid pump that enables the liquid flow into the collector pipes. Both the nonlinear and linear models are presented in the paper in order to tune a classical controller. A comparison of controller performances (stationary and transient) was conducted by simulation, using Matlab/Simulink software. Also, the gradient descent method was applied for an optimal tuning of the temperature controller, imposing minimum overshoot.

This work proposes an algorithm for monitoring the heart rate on a mobile device using data captured by the camera while pressing a fingertip against the embedded camera. The. method proposed in this article computes the heart rate using the mean of pixels in the. RGB color space on a frame by frame basis, giving a higher weight to the Red and the Green channels in order to increase accuracy. The values are computed in real-time at 30 frames per second. To reduce the variation induced by the. noisy readings, two moving average procedures are sequentially applied to obtain a smooth signal. The next step is to compute the, temporal frequency of the signal by counting down the peaks within a window of 10 seconds. Finally, the computed frequency is used to determine the number of heart beats per minute. The proposed algorithm is robust and fast enough to work in real-time on a mobile device with limited computational power. To demonstrate its usefulness, the algorithm is embedded in a mobile application called Cardio Watch, which is available in the. Apple App Store at http://***/cardiowatch.

Simplified mathematical models that can describe the real behavior of a building with relative small errors can provide useful information about the best operational methods of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems, energy demand for heating and cooling, etc. We developed a simplified mathematical model for computing the energy demand for heating and optimized it with a Genetic Algorithm, in order to minimize the error between the model and real data. The tested period (a month) showed that the optimization method is suitable for this type of applications and the relative error was 0.14 kWh.
