Usually when modeling a real process the effects of nonlinearities must be taken into account. A road traffic sector is one such process. Considering it from a macroscopic point of view, the sector is modeled both as a nonlinear and as a linearized process. An I/O model is proposed and a RST control algorithm is used to ensure the imposed performances for the closed loop system. The robustness of the system is obtained by determining the modulus margin and based upon it the admissible nonlinearities are analyzed in order to determine the limits between which the system maintains its stability. ©2012 IEEE.

In this paper the concept of a unified torque/impedance controller is applied to a pneumatically actuated, antagonistic robot joint. The investigated control algorithm consists of a cascaded structure in which the outer torque/impedance controller commands a desired torque to two cylinder-based force controllers. The torque-/impedance controller is equipped with a virtual tank that ensures passivity of the control loops above force level. Additionally, a shaping function provides a continuous transition to impedance control in case of sudden contact loss during a torque control operation. External torques used in the feedback loop for contact force regulation are estimated by a momentum observer. Experimental and simulation results show a maximum deflection of 9.7° over 130 ms in case of contact loss until a resting position is reached. Additionally, step and sinusoidal torque tracking up to 5 Hz was successfully tested at good performance. © 2017 IEEE.

Based on all realistic static two-cell coupling faults presented by Hamdioui, van de Goor, and Rodgers in [1], we have defined a complex model of neighborhood pattern sensitive faults (NPSFs) in N ×1 random-access memories [2]. Thus, the large model of NPSFs we have considered (called all static NPSFs) includes state coupling faults, transition coupling faults, write disturb coupling faults, read destructive coupling faults, deceptive read destructive coupling faults, and incorrect read coupling faults. A new multibackground march test able to cover this large model of NPSFs is presented in this paper. © 2011 faculty of Auto control.

The paper presents a method of assessing thermal comfort in office rooms, using data collected from Fitbit bracelets. The result is a fuzzy system for the level of thermal comfort that wants to meet two objectives: reducing the energy consumption in the building and fulfilling the thermal comfort for the occupants. The representative factors taken into account in this study are: air temperature, relative humidity, user activity, clothing level and skin temperature. The proposed fuzzy system was modeled and simulated in the Matlab/SIMULINK development environment, showing satisfactory results after the analysis of the data taken over a period of several days. © 2023 IEEE.

Photovoltaic (PV) panel modelling and control is very important in renewable energy systems. Due to it variability, PV panel generation power should be maximized for the given climate conditions. This paper considers three Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms: Perturb Observe, Incremental Conductance and Fuzzy Logic. After a clear description for each algorithm, modelling, testing and validation is conducted on real experimental data for a 250W PV panel. Over one day period, a comparison between the 3 control MPPT algorithms show that Perturb Observe gives the best results, close to Incremental Conductance algorithm application. © 2021 IEEE.

Smart agricultural systems require irrigation systems powered by renewable energy sources that are also adaptable for isolated areas without connection possibility to the electricity network or the water network. For such situations, in this paper, a solution is proposed using a wind turbine and a submersible pump to feed a water basin, subsequently irrigation is done by free fall. The developed solution is designed and simulated using a model of a medium-power wind turbine, and a battery storage element with the aim of providing the necessary electricity for irrigation of an agricultural area in Buzau, where there is a water deficit. © 2023 IEEE.

Cloud computing becomes more and more popular providing the means to organize and deliver almost any kind of data and software services. Since it is inherently scalable to support rapid economic growth and productivity, its distributed data storage layer needs to be capable to address these requirements. A distributed file system contains a large number of cluster nodes and a large number of clients interacting with it. In this article, we propose two acceleration mechanisms based on multi-core network SoC to maximize each cluster node performance. First, the requests to the cluster node are balanced evenly on the platform cores, and second the requests are classified to decrease latency of sensitive operations and improve the overall cluster responsiveness and availability. For implementation, tests and measurements we have used a novel open source distributed file system: Ceph. Among many advantages over the competitors of Ceph we mention preservation of POSIX API, completely decoupled data and metadata and usage of object storage devices instead of block devices. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper presents the development of a system that uses fuzzy logic in order to evaluate the thermal comfort conditions expressed by means of a score by the occupants of an office room The inputs of the system are represented by three datasets relevant to the study: the air temperature, the positioning of the occupant and the level of activity carried out by the occupant. Based on the comfort score obtained, the HVAC system located at the room level will maintain a comfortable environment. The proposed solution also contributes to the minimization of energy consumption in buildings. In order to collect the data sets necessary for the study, we used the *** module as a wearable device. © 2023 IEEE.

Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues discussed lately due to its influence on human health. Particular attention is paid to air quality monitoring today and most developed societies have implemented weather and air quality monitoring stations in various locations inside or outside cities to monitor and reduce the effects of poor air quality. Modern standards and sensors have started to be used in recent years to monitor air quality. Conventional air quality monitoring systems, on the other hand, are not able to provide real-time air quality data with acceptable spatial and temporal resolutions at a low cost, so the challenge is to achieve low-cost and energy-independent solutions. Using modern technologies, e.g. Internet of-things (IoT), an original approach is proposed for building an air quality monitoring system considering low cost equipment and efficient energy autonomous approach. Smart cities have successfully implemented air quality monitoring systems that combine both hardware and software. The results presented in the paper show the viability of the proposed solution, exposing the designed solution and different ways of presenting air quality monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper describes the energy consumption from the battery based on the current measurements for various cases, i.e., speed (PWL adjustment) and loads. The main purpose of the research is to have additional and reliable information about power consumption and battery life estimation for autonomous guided vehicles (AGV). The authors propose a two-step algorithm. In the first step, a linear classifier was proposed. Then, the KNN classifier was tested;however, it did not give satisfactory results, so it was finally decided to use the random forest to estimate the load and PWL. The time domain current measurement is evaluated, and the beforementioned algorithms process the selected statistical measures. It has been proven that a two-step algorithm allows for achieving high accuracy. Based on the current observation, the paper is a good starting point for further investigation of the AGV because it is usually implemented in the AGV - so it does not require additional hardware. Moreover, it can lead to better energy management and increase battery lifetime. © 2023 IEEE.
