The present work considers the problem of hazard in combinatorial logic structures. The start point is the classic time constants method. In order to improve it we shall consider the different transition times that characterize the ldquo0rdquouarrldquo1rdquo and ldquo1rdquodarrldquo0rdquo transitions for a logic gate. That will refine the methodpsilas precision. Furthermore in order to reduce the amount of calculus requested we shall define and use two time dependent logic variables (TDLV). The simplicity and precision of the improved method will be presented by aid of a real life example.

"Artificial lung" is a device that simulates breathing process of occupants in a room. This allows you to safely test, e.g., the impact of HVAC systems on the spread of pathogens. The paper describes the concept of the device, its construction and performed tests. The project was implemented by students of two faculties: automatic control, Electronics and computer Science, and Energy and Environmental engineering. Memetic Algorithms (MAs) are a class of stochastic global search heuristics in which Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) - based approaches are combined usually with heuristic local searches. This hybridization is meant to reach solutions that would otherwise be unreachable by evolution or a local method alone. In this work, we propose three Local Search (LS) algorithms for hybridization with an existing Evolutionary Algorithm with Pareto ranking in order to define biological intelligence using the concepts of useful and utility and therefore to zoom on the basin of attraction of promising realistic solutions. Our experimental results with these memetic algorithms in the game of Checkers show how we can learn the organization of behaviors into paths of behaviors of different lengths and frequencies and then reveal the true nature of these behaviors.

sAnalyzing textual data is a very challenging task because of the huge volume of data generated daily. Fundamental issues in text analysis include the lack of structure in document datasets, the need for various preprocessing steps and performance and scaling issues. Existing text analysis architectures partly solve these issues, providing restrictive data schemas, addressing only one aspect of text preprocessing and focusing on one single task when dealing with performance optimization. Thus, we propose in this paper a new generic text analysis architecture, where document structure is flexible, many preprocessing techniques are integrated and textual datasets are indexed for efficient access. We implement our conceptual architecture using both a relational and a document-oriented database. Our experiments demonstrate the feasibility of our approach and the superiority of the document-oriented logical and physical implementation. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

An important issue in the analysis of two-dimensional electrophoresis images is the detection and quantification of protein spots. The main challenges in the segmentation of 2DGE images are to separate overlapping protein spots correctly and to find the abundance of weak protein spots. To enable comparison of protein patterns between different samples, it is necessary to match the patterns so that homologous spots are identified. In this paper we describe a new robust technique to segment and model the different spots present in the gels. The watershed segmentation algorithm is modified to handle the problem of over segmentation by initially partitioning the image to mosaic regions using the composition of fuzzy relations. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm to overcome the over segmentation problem associated with the available algorithms. © 2010 IEEE.

The paper deals with an analysis of automatic control system with continuous and discrete PID controllers. A method of tuning the parameters of the continuous controller is presented, which is optimal according to the ITAE criterion. The behavior of control systems with discrete controllers whose parameters were tuned using the mentioned method are described. The impact of changes in the sampling period of controlled signal on the control quality is shown. Changes of the values of optimal parameters of discrete PID controllers in relation to changes of the sampling rate of controlled signal are characterized.

This paper presents a conversational interface that uses the speech recognition and synthesis and animation abilities of two Microsoft software agents in order to assure a more natural and efficient interface with an autonomous robot. The interface is used in the robotics educational process. The basic commands to be given by voice (back, right, etc.) and the control of the agents are implemented in Visual Basic. More complex control programs can be implemented and tested in Matlab and after that executed with a simple voice command. This program is used as a part of an integrated educational strategy in autonomous robotics and was evaluated by a group of students. First experimental results related to the use of this conversational interface compared to traditional robot simulation environments and control of real robots are presented in this paper with related discussions.

Technical developments in neurobiology have reached a point where the acquisition of high resolution images representing individual neurons and synapses becomes possible. For this, the brain tissue samples are sliced using a diamond knife and imaged with electron-microscopy (EM). However, the technique achieves a low resolution in the cutting direction, due to limitations of the mechanical process, making a direct visualization of a dataset difficult. We aim to increase the depth resolution of the volume by adding new image slices interpolated from the existing ones, without requiring modifications to the EM image-capturing method. As classical interpolation methods do not provide satisfactory results on this type of data, the current paper proposes a re-framing of the problem in terms of motion volumes, considering the depth axis as a temporal axis. An optical flow method is adapted to estimate the motion vectors of pixels in the EM images, and this information is used to compute and insert multiple new images at certain depths in the volume. We evaluate the visualization results in comparison with interpolation methods currently used on EM data, transforming the highly anisotropic original dataset into a dataset with a larger depth resolution. The interpolation based on optical flow better reveals neurite structures with realistic undistorted shapes, and helps to easier map neuronal connections. © 2011 ACM.

Network optimization and continued availability depend on a number of capabilities that are part of network management. The Maintenance, operating and also offering a safeguarded interaction network is very complicated. It calls for the network operators to grapple with low-level vendor particular arrangements to execute the high degree network policies which are complicated. A method for monitoring networks with OpenFlow controller is presented in this paper in two separate functions for the same networks. Bandwidth utilization, Meter values, charts and statistics are provided by the method to extend controller monitoring capabilities. The method architecture and implementation will be introduced in order to present the feature set. Additionally, softswitches are used as a switch and Mininet to evaluate a virtualized network. This analysis shows whether Meters or ports value is better for network management. © 2023 IEEE.

'The cloud' points out to servers, the databases and software that run on those servers. The Internet has always been constructed of infrastructure, servers and clients. Clients send their requests to servers, and servers reply, but cloud computing is distinct in the form that cloud servers are not just replying to requests with on-demand processing but they are saving data and running programs instead of the client. Cloud computing is a technology that is crossing a great expansion today. In cloud computing you can dynamically expand resources without knowledge of a new infrastructure, without developing new software or preparing new staff and to access such great technology the only things that are asked for are an Internet connection and an Internet browser. The goal of this survey is to present the different cloud security threats and recognize the proper security mechanism used to reduce them. © 2023 IEEE.
