Internet-based assessment has been recently introduced into many courses taught at Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland. We have started with summative assessment (examination) and non-obligatory formative assessment. The next step was the implementation of obligatory formative assessment for some groups of students. In the paper the applied forms of formative assessment are thoroughly described. We present the method, obtained results, and students attitude to different forms of assessment. Students have been surveyed on various aspects of web-based assessment - in particular, on the methods of cheating. We discuss the range of cheating, ways of cheating and precautions to be taken. The authors' experience and findings may be helpful for teachers applying Internet for students' assessment.

The Circuit Theory course at Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland has been recently converted into blended model and various forms of webbased formative and summative assessment have been implemented [1], [2]. In the paper the development of close-ended computer Assisted exam has been presented. The new repository has been created based on the results of previous exams. The detailed statistical analysis of the exam results has been performed with respect to students' outcomes as well as particular questions performance. We present the results of students' survey on web-based assessment and the comments of the staff with respect to new idea of examination. The paper enlightens the numerous advantages of computer Assisted exam and provides some tips for teachers, especially in case of technical university courses.

The process of functional verification used in electronic design automation implies checking that the logic design conforms to its specifications. A verification environment is built to provide scenarios to be checked. The simulation environment contains the following blocks: generator (generates inputs), driver translates the input stimuli provided by the generator into input for the design under verification (DUT), score-boards database (simulates the correct behavior of the DUT and is used as reference for the verification), and different metrics of coverage. Another target of the functional verification besides checking the equivalence between DUT behavior and its specification is to obtain 100% coverage. The coverage plan is represented by the sum of all scenarios on which the DUT will be exposed.

The problem of extraction/elimination of a nonstationary sinusoidal signal from noisy measurements is considered. This problem is usually solved using adaptive notch filtering (ANF) algorithms. It is shown that the accuracy of signal estimates can be significantly increased if the results obtained from ANF are further processed using a cascade of appropriately designed filters. The resulting adaptive notch smoothing (ANS) algorithm can be employed to perform many offline signal processing tasks, such as elimination of sinusoidal interference from a prerecorded signal.

Content-based filters (e.g. Keyword filters, heuristics filters, statistical learning filters, pattern recognition neural networks, and so on) use tokens, which are found during message content analysis, to separate spam from legitimate messages. The effectiveness of these token-based filters is due to the presence of token signatures (e.g. tokens that are invariant for the many variants of spam messages). In our research, we discovered a new trend of spam messages that have a low frequency of token signatures, thus making them significantly more difficult to identify. Further on, we will describe this new type of spam and also suggest a few modalities to combat the spread of this prototype of the future spam trend.

The paper presents research results on ECT (Electrostatic Charge Tendency) of cyclohexane and hexane mixtures, that is dielectric liquids of a simple chemical structure and high purity (Pro analysi). The research tests are carried out in a spinning disk system, where the factors affecting the value of the electrification current registered are a varying composition of the mixture and the rotational speed of the disk. In the next stage physicochemical parameters are measured in order to determine the relationship between the properties of the mixtures under study and the electrification current generated. The research results show that the ECT of the mixture depends, to a large extent, on the proper selection of particular components.
