Modeling signal which forms complex values is a common scientific problem, which is present in many applications, i.e. in medical signals, computer graphics and vision. One of the possible solution is utilization of Hankel Singular Value Decomposition. In the first step complex-valued signal is arranged in a special form called Hankel matrix, which is in the next step decomposed in operation of Singular Value Decomposition. Obtained matrices can be then reformulated in order to get parameters describing system. Basic method can be applied for fitting whole signal but it fails in modeling each particular component of signal. Modification of basic HSVD method, which relies on reiteration and is used for main components, and application of prior knowledge solves presented problem.

This work shows the results of the practical implementation of the linearizing controller for the example laboratory pneumatic process of the third relative degree. controller design is based on the Lie algebra framework but in contrast to the previous attempts, the on-line model update method is suggested to ensure offset-free control. The paper details the proposed concept and reports the experiences from the practical implementation of the suggested controller. The superiority of the proposed approach over the conventional PI controller is demonstrated by experimental results. Based on the experiences and the validation results, the possibilities of the potential application of the data-driven soft sensors for further improvement of the control performance are discussed.

Intrusion Detection Systems(IDS) have become an essential part of every security framework. These systems rely on monitoring and detection of intrusions, thus composing an additional line of defense. Several paradigms have been applied for implementing IDS. In this paper we propose a NIDS model based on Information Gain for feature selection and Support Vector Machines(SVM) for the detection component. SVM is a feed forward neural network with many advantages that comply with the requirements of an IDS. One drawback of this classification algorithm is that its performance depends on some input parameters. Our solution for this optimization problem is to apply swarm intelligence. We test our approach with the NSL-KDD data set and show that our model can obtain better results than regular SVM or PSO-SVM.

Recently, the institutional accreditation by the main national accreditation board - Polish Accreditation Council [1,2] - confirmed the highest teaching standards at the faculty. A significant part of assessment was based on the faculty Quality of Education Assurance System (FQEAS) performance. In the paper the faculty development strategy and structure of FQEAS will be presented. The assessment criteria will be discussed and the role of quality assurance system will be indicated. Future work with respect to teaching quality improvement, as well as FQEAS development, will be described. The properties of the presented FQEAS can be easily adopted in other national higher education systems.

This paper analyzes the possibility of using the free FBDK (Function Block Development Kit) tool for developing and implementing process control optimization problems. The evaluation of the tool is done from the perspective of a beginner user by designing a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The PSO algorithm is used because of its easy implementation and robustness. Several aspects regarding FBDK's usability, availability of advanced mathematical functions, availability of documentation, debugging options and execution performance are discussed.

This work describes a system based on a web application that allows the remote execution of IEC 61499 function blocks using the input parameters entered by a user in the web interface. The results obtained from executing the function block are sent to the field device using simple communication interfaces. The system is developed based on a hierarchical architecture that defines the components interconnections, their functions and communication patterns for the information exchange. An evaluation of the implemented prototype is also presented.

Search engines have become a de facto place to start information acquisition on the Internet. Sabotaging the quality of the results retrieved by search engines can lead users to doubt the search engine provider. Spam websites can serve as means of phishing. This paper shows a spam host detection approach that uses support vector machines(SVM) for classification. We create a parallel version of standard Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) to determine free parameters of the SVM classifier and apply our proposed model to a content web spamming dataset, WEBSPAM-UK2011. Our implementation of the parallel PSO is constructed on a pool of threads and each thread executes tasks associated to a particle from the swarm. Experiments showed that our proposed model can achieve a higher accuracy than regular SVM and outperforms other classifiers (C4.5, Naive Bayes). Furthermore, parallel version of standard Particle Swam Optimization(PSO) can efficiently select parameters for SVM.

The paper presents a novel approach to the adaptive control of a semi-active vehicle suspension with magnetorheological (MR) dampers. Research was carried out for a quarter-car model with two degrees of freedom and the Bouc-Wen model of the MR damper behavior. To apply vibration control the inverse model of the damper is needed to determine the current controlling the MR damper. Thus, the Bouc-Wen model was approximated by the model based on tanh function with hysteresis included, which can be easy inverted. This approach resembles the real situation, where the model used for control does not correspond perfectly to the real device. The dissipative domain of this model can be modified by subtracting a nonlinear average velocity-force characteristics from the original one. After such modification, the real semi-active element can be treated as a fictitious active actuator which generates force limited by the nonlinear boundaries dependent on the relative piston velocity. Hereby, the FxLMS adaptive algorithm can be applied for vibration control in the semi-active suspension assuming preview about the road excitation is available as the reference signal. Simulation experiments indicated the high performance of the proposed approach and its advantage over the classical Skyhook algorithm in vibration control of the suspension. Adaptability of vibration control based on the FxLMS makes the presented algorithm scalable.
