Blockchain technology gained much traction in the last few years. These decentralized databases offer security, immutability, and scalability across various applications. Decentralized applications generate vast amounts of data, known as events, that are recorded on the blockchain and are public to anyone. Some people may see opportunities for financial gains in these events and would like to know when they occur. This paper proposes a solution to process and deliver those events as real-time alerts to the users. It uses existing technologies such as message queues, multithreading, and asynchronous processing and integrates them into a scalable architecture. The results we achieved in this paper show that for an evenly distributed network traffic, which does not entirely consists of transaction bursts, the proposed solution offers reliability, efficiency, and a suitable delivery time to those wishing to integrate it into their projects. With time, this solution, or improved architectures, may form the basis of the following big-data architectures for processing blockchain events. © 2023 IEEE.

automatic Term Recognition is used to extract domain-specific terms that belong to a given domain. In order to be accurate, these corpus and language-dependent methods require large volumes of textual data that need to be processed to extract candidate terms that are afterward scored according to a given metric. To improve text preprocessing and candidate terms extraction and scoring, we propose a distributed Spark-based architecture to automatically extract domain-specific terms. The main contributions are as follows: (1) propose a novel distributed automatic domain-specific multi-word term recognition architecture built on top of the Spark ecosystem;(2) perform an in-depth analysis of our architecture in terms of accuracy and scalability;(3) design an easy-to-integrate Python implementation that enables the use of Big Data processing in fields such as Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing. We prove empirically the feasibility of our architecture by performing experiments on two real-world datasets. © 2023 IEEE.

Communication protocols in the Internet of Things (IoT) are essential for protecting the security of transmitted data in both device-server and device-device transmission scenarios. Data should be sent through communication protocols that ensure security through mechanisms such as message encryption and signing, while also keeping the overhead as small as possible. The MQTT protocol is widely used in the IoT industry because it is a lightweight and reliable protocol. In this paper, we propose the integration of TLS/SSL with MQTT in the NuttX open-source operating system. We implemented an MQTT application for NuttX that focuses on integrating the TLS/SSL protocol at the transport layer of the TCP/IP stack, in the context of using the MQTT protocol at the application layer of the stack. The integration facilitates faster development times for industry leaders who may use NuttX and would like to improve the security of their applications. Our contributions are geared towards open-source code, with the intent of educating and contributing to the NuttX community. © 2024 IEEE.

Therapy, interviews, and emergency services assisted by artificial intelligence (AI) are applications where speech emotion recognition (SER) plays an essential role, for which performance and robustness are subject to improvement. Deep learning approaches have proven effective in SER;nevertheless, they can underperform when exposed to adversarial attacks. In this paper, we explore and enhance architectures, such as convolutional neural networks with long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM), AlexNet, VGG16, Convolutional Vision Transformer (CvT), Vision Transformer (ViT), and LeViT, by finding the suitable setup for SER models regarding speech processing, network hyperparameters, spectrogram augmentations, and adversarial examples. We apply our methodology to Romanian and German SER datasets and achieve state-of-the-art results, with 89.81% validation weighted accuracy and 98.09% average weighted accuracy on the trained models. Our highly robust models reach complete adversarial defense and up to 5.56% weighted accuracy improvement when attacked. We also show how adversarial attacks influence model behavior in SER through explainable AI techniques. © 2024 The Authors.

This paper describes the solutions submitted by the UPB team to the AuTexTification shared task, featured as part of IberLEF-2023. Our team participated in the first subtask, identifying text documents produced by large language models instead of humans. The organizers provided a bilingual dataset for this subtask, comprising English and Spanish texts covering multiple domains, such as legal texts, social media posts, and how-to articles. We experimented mostly with deep learning models based on Transformers, as well as training techniques such as multi-task learning and virtual adversarial training to obtain better results. We submitted three runs, two of which consisted of ensemble models. Our best-performing model achieved macro F1-scores of 66.63% on the English dataset and 67.10% on the Spanish dataset. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors. In this paper we study an ODE model on the microRNA-mRNA dynamics. Nowadays, the use of mobile data is becoming more and more difficult because there are many people who own a smartphone, and thus the signal is fragmented. Therefore, in quite urgent situations, if we need Internet access, there is a possibility that we cannot access it because there are many devices already connected. A service that would benefit from a new solution that does not require Internet access is the taxi service. In situations such as leaving from a concert or visiting a foreign country, a taxi application over the peer-to-peer mobile networks would be a very good idea in meeting the mobility needs. To develop such an application, we need to understand the concept of opportunistic networks and other features that come with them such as routing, trusting mechanisms, etc. This paper presents a possible solution of a peer-to-peer mobile taxi application, the motivation behind the implementation of such an application, as well as all the technical details needed to understand and develop the concept. Finally, we also turn our attention to some potential legal implications of the proposed solution. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

This paper proposes a solution for monitoring environmental parameters for smart buildings with fast implementation and low cost. The solution proposes an IoT (Internet of Things) architecture based on the SoC WiFi ESP8266 microprocessor for air quality monitoring devices and on the ThingsBoard open-source IoT platform for storing, processing and viewing measured data. The parameters measured by the monitoring devices are the ambient temperature and humidity as well as the concentration of total volatile organic compounds. The speed of implementation is based on the use of the IEEE 802.11 infrastructure already existing in the building. The solution is tested through an implementation in a building of the faculty of automatic control and computers, National University of science and Technology Politehnica bucharest. The presented solution represents an effort of more than two years of testing and improvement. © 2024 IEEE.

Smart agricultural systems require irrigation systems powered by renewable energy sources that are also adaptable for isolated areas without connection possibility to the electricity network or the water network. For such situations, in this paper, a solution is proposed using a wind turbine and a submersible pump to feed a water basin, subsequently irrigation is done by free fall. The developed solution is designed and simulated using a model of a medium-power wind turbine, and a battery storage element with the aim of providing the necessary electricity for irrigation of an agricultural area in Buzau, where there is a water deficit. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper details the integration of augmented reality (AR) in a new factory, focusing on enhancing maintenance efficiency and optimization. The innovative approach involves combining AR technology, an Android application, and Siemens PLCs (Programmable Logic controller), for efficient automation. The robustness of the PLC enables seamless integration within manufacturing environments, accommodating diverse programming paradigms. The software aspect features Human Machine Interface (HMI) configuration using Siemens' WinCC software, offering dynamic visualizations, alarm handling, and data logging. WinCC's scalability suits applications of varying sizes. The HMI architecture is designed for easy parameter display. The Android application, developed with Java and Python, leverages their respective strengths in Android app development and image processing. The integration of Teleassistance promotes effective collaboration between human expertise and automated systems, crucial for optimal performance in modern industrial settings. Continuous development is suggested through the addition of more 3D mechanical drawings and real-Time stock information for parts in the application, aiming for future optimization and performance enhancement. © 2024 IEEE.
