The paper presents a method of assessing thermal comfort in office rooms, using data collected from Fitbit bracelets. The result is a fuzzy system for the level of thermal comfort that wants to meet two objectives: reducing the energy consumption in the building and fulfilling the thermal comfort for the occupants. The representative factors taken into account in this study are: air temperature, relative humidity, user activity, clothing level and skin temperature. The proposed fuzzy system was modeled and simulated in the Matlab/SIMULINK development environment, showing satisfactory results after the analysis of the data taken over a period of several days. © 2023 IEEE.

Heating by burning wood was one of the main methods used by people from ancient times until the dawn of industrialization. This is explainable because wood is a renewable and readily available resource. Environmental policies are currently trying to lead to abandonment of this heating method for reasons related to the polluting emissions of the combustion process. However, in rural areas, wood-burning stoves are still widely used for heating homes and even for cooking. Natural gas or electric furnaces are solutions that are not available or accessible in small communities, not all small towns are connected to the natural gas distribution network and electricity is expensive for heating. This paper aims to evaluate the effect of burning wood for heating on the air quality in the vicinity (indoor and outdoor) by using a monitoring network of IoT sensors. The study of this heating method does not enjoy a major interest in the scientific field because it is considered that burning wood will soon disappear as a heating method, but in reality, this method is still widely used in the rural environment and will be used in the isolated communities for a long time to come. This motivates the current study. © 2024 IEEE.

The classification and identification of blood cells from microscopic images is very important for the detection of serious diseases. To increase the efficiency of the identification and counting of cells from 8 classes such as Basophils, Eosinophils, Erythroblasts, Immature Granulocytes, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Neutrophils, and Thrombocytes, a special advance was taken using artificial intelligence for image analysis. This article proposes a collective intelligence decision system based on the fusion of individual decisions of four efficient convolutional neural networks, VGG 16, Xception, ResNet-50, and NasNetLarge. The fusion is based on the efficiency of each network's performance in recognizing (correctly classifying) the membership class of the analyzed cell. In this sense, a weight is established for each network associated with a certain class. The global system has better performances than each individual network and is better or comparable to those reported in recent works. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents the development of a system that uses fuzzy logic in order to evaluate the thermal comfort conditions expressed by means of a score by the occupants of an office room The inputs of the system are represented by three datasets relevant to the study: the air temperature, the positioning of the occupant and the level of activity carried out by the occupant. Based on the comfort score obtained, the HVAC system located at the room level will maintain a comfortable environment. The proposed solution also contributes to the minimization of energy consumption in buildings. In order to collect the data sets necessary for the study, we used the *** module as a wearable device. © 2023 IEEE.

Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues discussed lately due to its influence on human health. Particular attention is paid to air quality monitoring today and most developed societies have implemented weather and air quality monitoring stations in various locations inside or outside cities to monitor and reduce the effects of poor air quality. Modern standards and sensors have started to be used in recent years to monitor air quality. Conventional air quality monitoring systems, on the other hand, are not able to provide real-time air quality data with acceptable spatial and temporal resolutions at a low cost, so the challenge is to achieve low-cost and energy-independent solutions. Using modern technologies, e.g. Internet of-things (IoT), an original approach is proposed for building an air quality monitoring system considering low cost equipment and efficient energy autonomous approach. Smart cities have successfully implemented air quality monitoring systems that combine both hardware and software. The results presented in the paper show the viability of the proposed solution, exposing the designed solution and different ways of presenting air quality monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

computer games as an educational tool significantly improved information retention, student involvement, and motivation. Despite the growing popularity and the demonstrated positive impact, little progress is made to let educators create games without learning game programming or investing massive amounts of time, money, and human resources. This paper considers the usage of procedural content generation in simplifying the generation of game environments. Given that most educational material is in text format, we evaluate the possibility of generating 3D scenes starting from natural language text. A comprehensive survey of the current methods is presented, analyzing whether they can be successfully used in game-based learning. The study discusses several current limitations and possible improvements, highlighting a need for better progress in the domain. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper we present an approach for facial expression recognition in images depicting persons of different ages, genders and ethnicities. We propose "emotion sketches" which are simplified representations of facial expressions, so that classification can be done regardless of the physical characteristics of persons portrayed in the analyzed images. Emotion sketches are based on facial landmarks identified in static images. The paper describes the process of obtaining the emotion sketches and validates the approach by training and testing three neural networks on them. This study proposes methods that can be used to examine and interpret comments that users have made after watching videos on YouTube on a particular topic. YouTube tutorials are very popular among young people. They have become an important pillar in informal education, thus contributing to the rapid acquisition of skills and knowledge. Under these circumstances, we were interested in analysing the YouTube videos comments, knowing that the platform has a continuous increase in popularity, which is also due to the opportunities of sharing them. Since ChatGPT-themed YouTube videos have seen a significant surge in popularity since 2022, we were interested to analyse some videos that approach the topics of 'ChatGPT, AI clone, AI robot and Deep Learning.' © 2024 IEEE.

Halyomorpha Halys is a type of a dangerous insect for agricultural crops, in general, and especially for orchards. The detection and evaluation of their abundance are of great importance for starting the elimination procedure in ecological conditions. There are few studies conducted on insect detection using deep neural networks, but none are dedicated to the Pentatomidae family. The paper proposes an intelligent system for the detection of two similar species, Halyomorpha Halys and N ezara Viridula, the first being the dangerous one. As a novelty, the paper proposes an integrated intelligent system consisting of two interconnected neural networks trained on a custom data set using transfer learning. The first is configurated for insect detection (YOLOv.4-tiny) and the second is dedicated to insect classification (EfficientNet-B3). This approach has the goal of decreasing the values of false negative and false positive errors, thus increasing the detection performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Detection of persons from restricted areas with the help of UAVs is one of the current trends in ensuring the security of regions of interest. For the processing of images acquired by UAVs of special interest are machine learning techniques with an emphasis on neural networks. For this task, two neural networks are proposed and tested in this paper: YOLO v5m and Faster R-CNN. They were learned and tested on two data sets: HERIDAL and a proprietary video stream data set. Both networks gave good results, and the best results were obtained on their own data set (because the images in HERIDAL were taken at a higher height). © 2022 IEEE.
