We study a class of dynamical networks modeled by linear and time-invariant systems which are described by state-space realizations. For these networks, we investigate the relations between various types of factorizations which preserve the structure of their component subsystems’ interconnection. In doing so, we provide tractable means of shifting between different types of sparsity-preserving representations and we show how to employ these factorizations to obtain distributed implementations for stabilizing and possibly stable controllers. The micro RNA-messenger RNA dynamics is a topic of constant interest. In this paper we analyze the stability of equilibria of a mathematical model associated to this interaction. After proving the existence and uniqueness of an equilibrium point in the positive ortant, we provide numerically tractable conditions (by using Linear Matrix Inequalities techniques) to check the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point. An illustrative numerical example is closing the paper along with some conclusions. © 2019, Politechnica University of Bucharest. All rights reserved.

In today’s digital age, fake news has become a major problem that has serious consequences, ranging from social unrest to political upheaval. To address this issue, new methods for detecting and mitigating fake news are required. In this work, we propose to incorporate contextual and network-aware features into the detection process. This involves analyzing not only the content of a news article but also the context in which it was shared and the network of users who shared it, i.e., the information diffusion. Thus, we propose GETAE, Graph Information Enhanced Deep Neural Network Ensemble ArchitecturE for Fake News Detection, a novel ensemble architecture that uses textual content together with the social interactions to improve fake news detection. GETAE contains two Branches: the Text Branch and the Propagation Branch. The Text Branch uses Word and Transformer Embeddings and a Deep Neural Network based on feed-forward and bidirectional Recurrent Neural Networks ([Bi]RNN) for learning novel contextual features and creating a novel Text Content Embedding. The Propagation Branch considers the information propagation within the graph network and proposes a Deep Learning architecture that employs Node Embeddings to create novel Propagation Embedding. GETAE Ensemble combines the two novel embeddings, i.e., Text Content Embedding and Propagation Embedding, to create a novel Propagation-Enhanced Content Embedding which is afterward used for classification. The experimental results obtained on two real-world publicly available datasets, i.e., Twitter15 and Twitter16, prove that using this approach improves fake news detection and outperforms state-of-the-art models. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper describes the design and software implementation of a wearable prototype that allows users to monitor the vital signs of COVID-19 patients in quarantine areas. This prototype consists of two parts, the bracelet, andthe Base control unit (BCU). The bracelet is built with ESP8266 and sensors as main components, as well as the battery and other parts needed to fulfill the system's purpose (monitoring the vital signs of COVID-19 patients). At the same time, the Raspberry Pi (SCB) single board computer and GSM/GPRS/HAT are the main components of the Basic control Unit (BCU). The current work describes the main parts of the pseudocode, as well as the activity diagram for the microcontroller and Raspberry Pi. This paper describes the mechanism of sending alert messages, whereby the system's ability to configure two types of alert messages; (1) physician Messages (these Messages will be sent to the physicianassociated with the patient if one or more vital signs reach a critical value; these messages contain all measurements of a patient's vital signs); (2) Authorize messages (these messages will be sent if the quarantine rules are violated; the patient's location will be sent to the authorized person as a Google Mapslink). Also, this paper describes the graphical user interface for communication, management,. and interaction between the users of the system.

The article presents the issue of scale deposits in sanitary installations. Scale contributes to improper operation of sanitary devices and leads to their degradation. Scale build-up in pipes and measuring elements results in higher water consumption due to inaccurate estimation of this resource consumption. The consequence is that devices based on process automation do not work properly due to disturbances in the actual water flow. The formation of deposits also leads to economic and ecological losses, as sanitary installations elements have to be replaced, which affects the increased use of raw materials and the generation of waste. This is not in line with current trends and global objectives related to circular economy. Scale also results in increased energy consumption and reduced energy efficiency. This is due to the resistance of the flows and the increased work of the pumps. Scale has insulating properties, which results in less efficient heat transfer. In this stady, a mathematical model was developed to detect the formation of scale deposits in sanitary installations. On this basis, it is possible to control the quality status of sanitary installation components. In this way, by taking appropriate action at an early stage of the formation of deposits, it can extend the life of the installation. Having information on scale deposits, it will help avoid wasting water and lead to more accurate measurement of water flows. This is important for the proper operation of devices such as heat pumps, where their operation is automated and requires precise measurements of the energy processes taking place. Scale is a significant problem for households, and also for factories or public institutions that are exposed to hard water environments. © 2021 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. Semi-supervised active transfer learning for fetal ECG arrhythmia detection

Deep learning has demonstrated excellent results for ECG anomaly detection, wherein most approaches used supervised learning. The requirement of thousands of manually annotated samples is a concern for state-of-the-art anomaly detection systems, especially for fetal ECG (FECG), and currently, there is not a publicly available FECG dataset annotated for each FECG beat. In this paper, we offer a modified active learning technique based on transfer learning, calibration probability, and autoencoder-based sampling to reduce number of samples requires to annotate. In this regard, we used 25,000 s of recording from 47 patients from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database to train a deep learning model to detect anomalies in non-fetus subjects. Then we used the unlabeled Non-Invasive Fetal ECG Arrhythmia Database (NIFEA DB) of 26 subjects to fine-tune the trained model to fine-tune the trained model based on active learning to detect anomalies in binary form for fetal. A variational autoencoder is trained on all data (adult and fetal ECG), and clustering is applied to latent features extracted from data after dimension reduction. Then, the sampling process of active learning selected samples from different clusters with low confidence to cover all data distribution. Moreover, a probability calibration based on mc-dropout and isotonic regression is used to calibrate confidences, helping to select reliable low-confidence samples. Various ablation studies were performed to show the influence of autoencoder-based sampling, calibration, and transfer learning, which showed that the proposed method could achieve 92% accuracy using 399 training samples. In contrast, other methods required more training samples to reach the same level of accuracy without calibration or an autoencoder and clustering approach or training without active learning. The study also found that transfer learning significantly impacted faster convergence and that the proposed active learning approach was more effect

This study explores the neurological basis of emotions using a multi-method approach, analysing functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) data obtained from a 26-channel device. Author’s primary objective was to examine the brain’s response to tasks that provoke emotional, imagery and affective reactions through the observation of hemodynamic changes in data. By applying data processing methods and techniques, cerebral activations corresponding to different emotional states were shown. This research enriches comprehension of how emotion and imagery tasks are processed by the brain and offers insights into aspects of brain activity during emotionally charged engagements.

This paper deals with the problem of signals filtering using hybrid filters. Such solutions may prove to be especially beneficial in the context of biomedical signals filtering where the signals’ amplitudes are typically not very high and they can be easily affected by different kinds of disturbances. Having a number of different types of filters tuned for some specific purposes we will show how the best filter choice is affected by selecting one ML model over another.

The research of the authors is focused on presenting a practical multidisciplinary experiment-An elevator simulator to relate theory and practice inside of a lot of disciplines and to bring the 'real world' into a useful case study for electrical and control engineering education. Through the existence of interesting experiments, students gain motivation either to continue thinking and improving new solutions for building and control of elevators. The concept of the modern elevator is presented in this paper from the perspective of integration of current technological equipment like a programmable logic controller, inverter, encoder, human-machine-interface on which students can develop various control strategies using a SCADA system. The paper presents the some exercises that students can perform on the existent simulator. © 2020 IEEE.
