The paper deals with the methodology of creation of sequential control system programs in the language of function block diagrams (FBD). After analyzing basic blocks of the sequential functions chart (SFC) language, the form of state block and implementation of branching or connecting paths of sequences are formulated using the FBD language. It is a simplification of the application of the SFC language. Our method of creating the sequential system ensures a compact form of the final program and is particularly useful for small PLC controllers. The method is illustrated by example of the simple sequential control system.

The paper deals with an analysis of automaticcontrol system with continuous and discrete PID controllers. A method of tuning the parameters of the continuous controller is presented, which is optimal according to the ITAE criterion. The behavior of control systems with discrete controllers whose parameters were tuned using the mentioned method are described. The impact of changes in the sampling period of controlled signal on the control quality is shown. Changes of the values of optimal parameters of discrete PID controllers in relation to changes of the sampling rate of controlled signal are characterized.

The paper presents the results obtained by the authors during the research done on the efficient usage of photovoltaic panels and proposes performant numerical methods for the estimation of the maximum power point (MPP). The P(U) and P(I,U) models are computed for the BGSP - P225 solar panel model. For the first model, P(U), the paper proposes a polynomial interpolation search algorithm and for the P(I,U) model an optimal gradient algorithm, respectively. The performances obtained with these methods are evaluated and the main results are commented. The implementation of the search algorithms for the maximum power point is important for the computation of the set point given to the control systems, which control the photovoltaic panel, in order to obtain optimal photovoltaic generated power.

The main effects of atmospheric turbulence on the laser beams propagation are scintillation, beam wandering, and phase front distortion. The first two can be compensated simply by using aperture averaging, whereas the later, which is of high importance in high data rates free space optics communications, is much more complex. This paper gives a review of principal analytical methods used to simulate and characterize the optical beam propagation through the turbulence channel focussing on phase front distortion. The paper presents simple models suitable for computer simulations of beam wandering and scintillation. This is followed by more complex theoretical approaches in analysing the turbulence induced phase front distortion and the calculation of the mutual coherence function of partially coherent beams propagating through an inhomogeneous medium. The theoretical analysis of beam coherence and phase front distortion due to turbulence represents the first step for elaboration of the mitigation methods.

This paper presents a thorough analysis of the behavior of a bio-inspired model to care for casualties in a disaster. The model was proposed by the authors in a previous paper and a simulation based on it was performed and evaluated. Here, we analyze the evolution of the system and the impact that various model parameters can have over it. Once the behavior is well understood, we can then focus our research on certain groups of parameter adjustments so that with a minimum implementation cost to achieve a maximum benefit in terms of saved lives.

The paper deals with a mathematical model of switched reluctance motor, with stator of on induction motor. The parameters of this model were determined experimentally. The motor winding were supplied from different frequencies AC voltage source. Based on the measurements of current and voltage equivalent resistance and inductance of motor windings as a function of frequency were determined using the least squares method. The measurements for different rotation angle of the rotor were carried out. The measured resistance value was significantly higher than the value of the winding resistance because of “iron losses”. The losses are modeled as the losses of a single turn wound on the rotor core, representing the eddy currents circuit. The losses are dependent on the angle of the rotor rotation relative to the stator. Based on the relationship between the equivalent inductance and resistance of the motor measured and specified of the model, the parameters were determined.

The service-oriented environment offers the opportunity to create new applications, by combining existing applications offered as services, in order to react to the business' increasing pressure of quickly delivering new applications. With a large number of web services offering the same functionality, choosing the web services that meet best the client's quality of service (QoS) requirements is a very important task. We introduce a QoS-aware end to end web service composition approach that handles all the stages from the web service discovery step, to the actual binding of the services. This approach uses our method of expressing nonfunctional preferences, which requires minimal effort on the part of the clients, but offers great flexibility in managing trade-offs. We define a QoS preferences ontology and use it in our semantic web service selection to choose an initial candidate list of services for every task in the orchestration model. Then, one concrete service is chosen from each candidate list and is boand to the corresponding task. This step involves computing and comparing the aggregated QoS of the resulting composite services. The selection is performed using a genetic algorithm.

Evolutionary Algorithms are representative as a research field in continuous development and a permanent source of new ideas. In order to minimize a function, some algorithms such as Genetic Algorithms, the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm and Evolutionary Hybrid Algorithms were investigated in this paper. Also, in order to accelerate the search of an optimal solution a new hybrid algorithm based on the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm is proposed. The tests showed that the proposed algorithm tends to reach an optimal solution faster than other algorithms.

The authors propose a new optimal method for the implementation of an integer division sequential algorithm using multifunctional registers (MFR) with decoded control inputs, based on transfer matrix method. The implementation cost is calculated emphasizing the most economical solutions. Low cost means less power consumed - green architectures, the CPU FPU logic core is much faster and the responses timing are short. The modern design tools handle digital systems with many outputs and represent them by cubes, for efficiency reasons. Talking as optimal, the implementation of the digital automaton can be reduced to a combinatorial one: synthesis using logic gates primitives and using floor planning design. The digital logic network that generates the control signals of the Finite State Machine (FSM) can be synthesized using the transfer matrix.

CAN (controller Area Network) and TIA-485 are two of the most used standards in fieldbus systems. While CAN ISO IS-11898 includes complete data link layer specifications on top of its physical layer, TIA-485 only addresses the physical layer of the 7-layer OSI model. Other communication parameters like speed, format, and data transmission protocol are not specified by RS-485 in order to provide interoperability of similar devices from different manufacturers. After a brief introduction and comparison of the two communication protocols, the paper investigates to what extent the CANopen specification - an application level protocol developed primarily for CAN networks - should be used in TIA-485-based fieldbus networks in order to provide the user an application programming interface (API) independent of the physical layer. Selected and customized CANopen services have been implemented and tested on a network of microcontroller-based stations equipped with CAN ISO 11898 and TIA-485 communication interfaces.
