In this paper a novel approach to the problem of impulsive noise removal in color images based on the nonparametric density estimation is presented. The basic idea behind the new image filtering technique is the maximization of the similarities between pixels in a predefined filtering window. The new method is faster than the standard vector median filter and preserves better edges and fine image details. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms other standard algorithms of the reduction of impulsive noise in color images.

The algorithms based on digital signal processing for impedance components' evaluation in circuits with sampling transducer have been analysed. It is supposed that the voltage and current are sampled synchronously to the fundamental frequency of the generated sinusoidal signal. Two fitting sine wave algorithms, which are based on the least mean square (LMS) technique, have been described. The first one reconstructs indirect measurement method. The second algorithm estimates the unknown impedance components by direct method. The uncertainty's propagation by described algorithms can be analysed by means of covariance matrix. The elements of covariance matrix are dependent on the phase angles of the measurement signals. It is shown that those algorithms provide minimization of uncertainty for selected number of samples and phase angles. The influence's simulations of quantization error of the AD converter and jitters of sampling time for described algorithms on uncertainty processing results have been carried out.

ATM multicasting using the multicast address resolution server (MARS) and multicasting server (MCS) has been presented as an efficient scheme for supporting IP multicast over ATM. On the other hand, Internet TV, distance learning, and file distribution are emerging large-scale multicast applications in which only a single source has to deliver data to all hosts participating in the multicast group. We introduce a new scheme for electing MCSs among all hosts in the network to minimize both the end-to-end path delay and the overall load across the network for single source applications. We introduce a new measure of the overall load which is determined by calculating the number of packets' copies multiplied by the number of hops done to complete the transmission of one packet from the sender to all members in the multicast group.

A number of algorithms has been proposed for extending ABR congestion avoidance algorithms in ATM networks to perform feedback consolidation at the branch points of multicast connections. Schemes that attempt to maximize accuracy of feedback information tend to be slow in providing feedback to the source when the conditions in the network change. Accuracy can be traded for speed by having a switch generate feedback information before it has all the necessary information from downstream paths. This can cause consolidation noise, leading to a heavy rate at the source. In this paper, we propose improved algorithm for feedback consolidation, which combines benefits from the previous algorithms with reduced overhead. The performance of the proposed algorithm and a set of previously developed algorithms are compared under a variety of conditions. Results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits a fast transient response with accurate feedback and doesn't suffer from consolidation noise. © 2001 by the International Society for computers and Their Applications. Distributed objects are increasingly becoming predominant with the widespread use of object-oriented technology. Coupled with object-oriented systems is the heterogeneity of computer systems that are interoperating together to form a large network such as the Internet. Within this distributed heterogeneous environment, objects are the main building blocks that form the communication of the distributed system. In real-time distributed environment, objects must deliver their services within given time constraints. In order to commit to performance constraints, a careful study and analysis of the software design is critical. Therefore, this research work focuses on restructuring distributed Object Oriented software to match the pipeline architecture. This technique provides the designer with a set of alternative solutions and the corresponding resource and communication cost while satisfying the system and computation constraints. The optimal solution that minimizes the system resources and the communication overheads will be also given. A search technique using genetic algorithm is used to scan the search space for the optimal software structure and the set of feasible ones. © (2001) by the International Society for computers and Their Applications All rights reserved.

Analysis of complex systems such as hierarchically structured network systems that are employed in modelling and analysis various aspects and issues of control and management in telecommunications is investigated. Theory of graphs and binary matrices appear to be most suitable tools for modelling the overall structure of complex systems, in general, and of systemic hierarchies, in particular. A systematic methodology has been developed for computer simulation analysis and detecting general hierarchies in communications networking as well as for synthesis of system hierarchies. This methodology is an improved extension of Warfield's technique. © 2001 EUCA.

Genetic algorithms are one of the effective algorithms for hard optimization problems. They can escape from the local minima, however, the amount of their computation is often large. To decrease the amount of the computation and enhance the algorithms, the uniform design is combined into the genetic algorithm. The new genetic operator has the local-search property similar to that in traditional optimization techniques and needs a minimal amount of computation in certain meanings. Thus the new genetic algorithm can generate a diversity of population and explore the search space effectively. Moreover, the new algorithm is globally convergent. The numerical results also show the effectiveness of the new algorithm with its less computation, and higher convergent speed for all test functions.

A self – tuning PID controller algorithm has been derived in this paper. The process is identified by the regression (ARX) continuous – time model using the recursive least squares method (RLSM) with applied directional forgetting. The recursive parameter estimates of the continuous – time model (differential equation) are used to synthesis the PID controller. controller synthesis is designed on the basis of a dynamics inversion method. This method allows the tuning of standard analog and digital controllers for chosen types of controlled processes without or with time delay. The algorithm is suitable for the automatic setting of analog and digital PID controllers for deterministic processes or the adaptive control of stochastic and nonlinear processes. The analog modification PID controller has been verified by computer simulation.

Banyan networks are commonly used as interconnection structures in ATM switches. This paper is concerned with the replication technique which was applied to the standard banyan networks. We apply this technique to the plane interconnected parallel network (PIPN) which is a switch introduced previously as a better banyan-based interconnection structure. The normalized throughput of unbuffered and buffered replicated PIPN is analyzed analytically under uniform traffic model. We apply the simulation technique to verify the analytical results under the uniform traffic model and to study the performance of different heterogeneous traffic models. The performance is shown to increase significantly when the replicated PIPN is used which supports the idea of using this switch as a new high-performance ATM switch.

In this paper, an adaptive decentralized controller is presented to attenuate the transversal vibration of a flexible cablestayed bridge induced by seismic excitation, in which only local sensor information has been used to generate the control signal that is sent to the actuator. The dynamic behavior of the beam structure is characterized by a nonlinear mathematical model with interconnection terms, which was obtained by using technique of finite element. The controller design is made based on the principle of sliding mode such that a priori knowledge on the exact value of system parameters, structural disturbances and the seismiic excitation is not required. In particular, it is assumed that the upper and lower bounds for the seismic excitation are also unknown. The closed-loop robust stability has been achieved through the generation of a sliding motion in the system. Nu-merical simulation is done to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme for a scaled model of the bridge subject to the Taft earthquake. © 1999 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
