The paper presents a family of novel light blob shape descriptors for use in selected active safety algorithms used in Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS). One of the motivations was to obtain a descriptor that would ensure low computational complexity. This makes it easy to implement both in software and hardware. One assumption is that the location of the center of a given light spot is approximately known. The principle of its operation is then to count white pixels in selected directions, starting from this central point. A key issue here is an efficient way of determining indexes of particular pixels belonging to the image patch, as well as the location of points representing places where the white area turns into black. In the case of a hardware implementation, this can be done using a parallel circuit operating in asynchronous mode, without the need for a control clock.

With the increasing number of IoT devices, there is a growing need for bandwidth to support their communication. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of available bandwidth due to preallocated bands for various services. To address this issue, Cognitive Internet of Things (CR-IoT) enables devices to optimize their efficiency and enhance their communication capabilities by intelligently accessing available bandwidth. This is achieved through the use of soft sensing metrics, where devices continuously monitor the RF environment and transmit data opportunistically in overlay mode if a free channel is detected, or in underlay mode if not. In this paper, a soft sensing metric based hybrid transmission framework is proposed for CR-IoT devices to meet the data rate requirement for the smart city applications. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated through simulation results.

Blood is vital for transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to all body parts as it circulates through arteries and veins. It removes carbon dioxide, regulates body temperature, and maintains the body's immune system. Individuals constantly need blood and its derivatives to save their lives and improve their health through medical treatments and surgical operations. Liver diseases are one of the diseases that affects the health of individuals and requires blood to continue living. These diseases cause significant damage to people's health, and early diagnosis plays a crucial role in saving lives. In this paper, machine learning algorithms (support vector machine and random forest) are involved in detecting liver diseases and determining whether donors are suitable to donate blood from blood values. This paper is applied research that found that the performance measures of the random forest algorithm achieved excellent performance in identifying suitable people to donate blood.

Machine learning(ML)has taken the world by a tornado with its prevalent applications in automating ordinary tasks and using turbulent insights throughout scientific research and design *** is a massive area within artificial intelligence(AI)that focuses on obtaining valuable information out of data,explaining why ML has often been related to stats and data *** advanced meta-heuristic optimization algorithm is proposed in this work for the optimization problem of antenna architecture *** algorithm is designed,depending on the hybrid between the Sine Cosine Algorithm(SCA)and the Grey Wolf Optimizer(GWO),to train neural networkbased Multilayer Perceptron(MLP).The proposed optimization algorithm is a practical,versatile,and trustworthy platform to recognize the design parameters in an optimal way for an endorsement double T-shaped monopole *** proposed algorithm likewise shows a comparative and statistical analysis by different curves in addition to the ANOVA and *** offers the superiority and validation stability evaluation of the predicted results to verify the procedures’accuracy.

Discretisation often constitutes a part of initial data preparation stage. It translates continuous domain of features into granular, by assigning a number of intervals to represent attributes' values by nominal categories. Typically all real-valued features are subjected to transformations, regardless of their characteristics. The paper presents research on discretisation executed with a discerning approach. To all available attributes, feature selection mechanisms were employed, in the form of rankings that order variables based on their importance. Exploiting this discovered knowledge on attributes, discretisation was then driven by a ranking, and either highest or lowest ranking features were selected for transformation. The influence of selective discretisation on the performance of classification systems was studied for three popular inducers. The procedure was employed in the field of stylometry, and a task of authorship recognition, considered as a binary classification with balanced classes. The experiments show that discretisation based on importance of features can lead to better performance than in the case of transformations applied to all attributes. © 2020 The Authors. Chimera states are dynamical states where regions of synchronous trajectories coexist with incoherent ones. A significant amount of research has been devoted to studying chimera states in systems of identical oscillators, nonlocally coupled through pairwise interactions. Nevertheless, there is increasing evidence, also supported by available data, that complex systems are composed of multiple units experiencing many-body interactions that can be modeled by using higher-order structures beyond the paradigm of classic pairwise networks. In this work we investigate whether phase chimera states appear in this framework, by focusing on a topology solely involving many-body, nonlocal, and nonregular interactions, hereby named nonlocal d-hyperring, (d+1) being the order of the interactions. We present the theory by using the paradigmatic Stuart-Landau oscillators as node dynamics, and we show that phase chimera states emerge in a variety of structures and with different coupling functions. For comparison, we show that, when higher-order interactions are “flattened” to pairwise ones, the chimera behavior is weaker and more elusive.

The paper discusses a data science competition centered around the development of an anomaly detection system for IoT devices. The competition utilized a unique environment that allowed for the operation and monitoring of real IoT devices, including scheduling of attacks on these devices. The environment was used to collect the data, which included both normal and attack-induced behavior of IoT devices. The paper presents the background of the competition, the top models submitted, and the competition results. The paper also includes a discussion about restrictions related to the use of synthetic attack data as input for constructing anomaly detection systems.

Reduced Network Cumulative Constraint Violation for Distributed Bandit Convex Optimization under Slater’s Condition

This paper studies the distributed bandit convex optimization problem with time-varying inequality constraints, where the goal is to minimize network regret and cumulative constraint violation. To calculate network cumulative constraint violation, existing distributed bandit online algorithms solving this problem directly use the clipped constraint function to replace its original constraint function. However, the use of the clipping operation renders Slater’s condition (i.e, there exists a point that strictly satisfies the inequality constraints at all iterations) ineffective to achieve reduced network cumulative constraint violation. To tackle this challenge, we propose a new distributed bandit online primal–dual algorithm. If local loss functions are convex, we show that the proposed algorithm establishes an O(T max{c,1−c})network regret bound and an O(T 1−c/2) network cumulative constraint violation bound, where T is the total number of iterations and c ∈ (0, 1) is a user-defined trade-off parameter. When Slater’s condition holds, the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(T 1−c). In addition, if local loss functions are strongly convex, for the case where strongly convex parameters are unknown, the network regret bound is reduced to O(T1−c), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is O(T1−c/2) and O(T1−c) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. For the case where strongly convex parameters are known, the network regret bound is further reduced to O)(log(T)), and the network cumulative constraint violation bound is reduced to O(log(T)T) and O(log(T)) without and with Slater’s condition, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is among the first to establish reduced (network) cumulative constraint violation bounds for (distributed) bandit convex optimization with time-varying constraints under Slater’s condition. Facial expression recognition plays a pivotal role in comprehending emotions and social interactions, particularly in individuals grappling with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who often encounter challenges in non-verbal communication. For some with ASD, even subtle shifts in their facial expressions can prove elusive, rendering it arduous to categorize their emotional states accurately. Consequently, the analysis and processing of facial expression data hold the potential to facilitate early autism diagnosis, thereby enabling timely therapeutic interventions and alleviating the economic and psychological burdens experienced by patients. In this study, we introduce an enhanced approach that leverages a fuzzy convolutional neural network (CNN) and an Improved Binary Genetic Algorithm (IBGA) for autism diagnosis based on facial expression data. Our model confronts the intricate task of recognizing facial images by selecting salient features employing the IBGA method. Moreover, it employs fuzzy weights to ascertain the probability of similarity within the classifier layer. Our proposed model has yielded impressive outcomes, boasting an average accuracy of 0.9405 for ASD detection and 0.9365 for the recognition of six distinct facial expressions. These results hold profound implications for the enhancement of emotion recognition systems and the refinement of interventions aimed at bolstering social interactions for individuals grappling with ASD. © 2024, The Authors.
