This paper proposes a backstepping integral sliding mode controller (BISMC) based on the partial feedback linearization (PFBL) of the detailed model of synchronous generators (SGs) in simple power networks. The proposed scheme is designed to obtain the excitation control input using the detailed model of SGs in a simple power system where the PFBL is used to simplify the model. The BISMC is employed on this simplified model to ensure the transient stability during large disturbances. The inherent property of the BISMC tackles the chattering and overcomes the parameter sensitivity problem of the PFBL scheme. Simulation studies are conducted under different operating situations to justify the effectiveness of the proposed PFBL-BISMC over a partial feedback linearizing controller (PFBLC). © 2021 IEEE.

A composite backstepping integral sliding mode controller (BISMC) is proposed in this work for a DC-DC boost converter feeding a constant power load (CPL) in a simple DC distribution system. Here, the main objective is to ensure the large-signal stability with wide variations in operating regions. The proposed BISMC is designed based on the feedback linearized model of the DC-DC boost converter with a CPL where the average state-space model is exactly linearized. The use of exact feedback linearization overcomes the non-minimum phase problem of a DC-DC boost converter due to the presence of the CPL that exhibits negative impedance characteristics. The control law is obtained using the combination of backstepping and integral sliding mode control schemes where both approaches ensure the faster convergence of errors for all states and the integral action on the sliding surface is designed in such a fashion that will ensure the constant frequency operation of the power converter feeding the CPL while eliminating the variable frequency associated problem of the existing controllers. In addition, the stability of the whole system is analyzed through the Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical simulations are conducted to verify the performance of the designed composite nonlinear controller whose performance is also compared with a double-loop proportional integral (PI) controller to verify the superiority of the designed controller. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper presents a novel approach for head tracking in augmented reality (AR) flight simulators using an adaptive fusion of Kalman and particle filters. This fusion dynamically balances the strengths of both algorithms, leveraging Kalman filters for computational efficiency and particle filters for handling non-linearities based on real-time factors such as sensor noise and head movement patterns. Our method demonstrates superior tracking precision and reduced latency, making it particularly effective for immersive pilot training in AR-based flight simulations. While focused on flight simulation, our approach holds high potential for broader applications in other AR and virtual reality (VR) environments where precise, real-time head tracking is crucial. These results provide actionable design guidance for developers optimizing tracking systems in environments that require fast response times and high accuracy. Future extensions of this research could explore the generalization of our approach across diverse AR applications, including human-computer interaction (HCI), medical simulations, and gaming. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

The article presents the issue of scale deposits in sanitary installations. Scale contributes to improper operation of sanitary devices and leads to their degradation. Scale build-up in pipes and measuring elements results in higher water consumption due to inaccurate estimation of this resource consumption. The consequence is that devices based on process automation do not work properly due to disturbances in the actual water flow. The formation of deposits also leads to economic and ecological losses, as sanitary installations elements have to be replaced, which affects the increased use of raw materials and the generation of waste. This is not in line with current trends and global objectives related to circular economy. Scale also results in increased energy consumption and reduced energy efficiency. This is due to the resistance of the flows and the increased work of the pumps. Scale has insulating properties, which results in less efficient heat transfer. In this stady, a mathematical model was developed to detect the formation of scale deposits in sanitary installations. On this basis, it is possible to control the quality status of sanitary installation components. In this way, by taking appropriate action at an early stage of the formation of deposits, it can extend the life of the installation. Having information on scale deposits, it will help avoid wasting water and lead to more accurate measurement of water flows. This is important for the proper operation of devices such as heat pumps, where their operation is automated and requires precise measurements of the energy processes taking place. Scale is a significant problem for households, and also for factories or public institutions that are exposed to hard water environments. © 2021 International Multidisciplinary Scientific Geoconference. Performance evaluation for ranking-based discretisation

Discretisation often constitutes a part of initial data preparation stage. It translates continuous domain of features into granular, by assigning a number of intervals to represent attributes’ values by nominal categories. Typically all real-valued features are subjected to transformations, regardless of their characteristics. The paper presents research on discretisation executed with a discerning approach. To all available attributes, feature selection mechanisms were employed, in the form of rankings that order variables based on their importance. Exploiting this discovered knowledge on attributes, discretisation was then driven by a ranking, and either highest or lowest ranking features were selected for transformation. The influence of selective discretisation on the performance of classification systems was studied for three popular inducers. The procedure was employed in the field of stylometry, and a task of authorship recognition, considered as a binary classification with balanced classes. The experiments show that discretisation based on importance of features can lead to better performance than in the case of transformations applied to all attributes.

A crossover-based multi-objective discrete particle swarm optimization model for solving multi-modal routing problems

Passengers must use a set of modes and vehicles to reach their destination in complicated urban structures. Choosing an optimal route is a complicated optimization problem for these passengers. This study proposes a multi-objective optimization algorithm to solve the routing problem in the urban multi-modal network. The multi-modal network problem considered in this study is a transportation network with subway, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), taxi, and walking modes. The objective functions determine the optimized route by considering route length, traffic, comfort, and safety. We develop a Crossover-Based Multi-Objective Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (CBMODPSO) to solve the problem. CBMODPSO has been improved using mutation and crossover operators. Multi-Objective Artificial Bee Colony (MOABC), Multi-Objective Ant Colony Optimization (MOACO), Multi-Objective Biogeography-Based Optimization (MOBBO), Multi-Objective Gray Wolf Optimization (MOGWO), and Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) algorithms are used to evaluate and compare the results from the CBMODPSO algorithm. In addition, CBMODPSO results are compared with previous research results. We show the improved algorithm is more repeatable than other algorithms. The CBMODPSO algorithm has a faster convergence rate and is able to get to an optimal solution in a smaller generation number and much less time. The CBMODPSO algorithm is implemented in about one-thirties of the MOBBO duration. Meanwhile, it has a reproducibility of almost twice the MOGWO algorithm. © 2023 The Author(s)

Chimera states are dynamical states where regions of synchronous trajectories coexist with incoherent ones. A significant amount of research has been devoted to study chimera states in systems of identical oscillators, non-locally coupled through pairwise interactions. Nevertheless, there is an increasing evidence, also supported by available data, that complex systems are composed by multiple units experiencing many-body interactions, that can be modeled by using higher-order structures beyond the paradigm of classic pairwise networks. In this work we investigate whether phase chimera states appear in this framework, by focusing on a novel topology solely involving many-body, non-local and non-regular interactions, hereby named non-local d-hyperring, being (d + 1) the order of the interactions. We present the theory by using the paradigmatic Stuart-Landau oscillators as node dynamics, and show that phase chimera states emerge in a variety of structures and with different coupling functions. For comparison, we show that, when higher-order interactions are"flattened" to pairwise ones, the chimera behavior is weaker and more elusive. © 2023, CC BY.

Queuing theory has been extensively used in the modelling and performance analysis of cloud computing systems. The phenomenon of the task (or request) reneging, that is, the dropping of requests from the request queue often occur in cloud computing systems, and it is important to consider it when developing performance evaluations models for cloud computing infrastructures. Majority of studies in the performance evaluation of cloud computing data centres with the use of queuing theory do not consider the fact that the tasks could be removed from queue without being serviced. The removal of tasks from the queue could be due to the user impatience, execution deadline expiration, security reasons, or as an active queue management strategy. The reneging could be correlated in nature, that is, if a request is dropped (or reneged) at any time epoch, and then there is a probability that a request may or may not be dropped at the next time epoch. This kind of dropping (or reneging) of requests is referred to as correlated request reneging. In this paper we have modelled a cloud computing infrastructure with correlated request reneging using queuing theory. An M/M/1/N queuing model with correlated reneging has been used to study the performance analysis of the load balancing server of a cloud computing system. The steady-state as well as the transient performance analyses have been carried out. Important measures of performance like a vera ge queue size, average delay, probability of task blocking, and the probability of no waiting in the queue are studied. Finally, some comparisons are performed which describe the effect of correlated task reneging over simple exponential reneging. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

In the era of 5G communication, removing interference sources that affect communication is a resource-intensive task. The rapid development of computer vision has enabled unmanned aerial vehicles to perform various high-altitude detection tasks. Because the field of object detection for antenna interference sources has not been fully explored, this industry lacks dedicated learning samples and detection models for this specific task. In this article, an antenna dataset is created to address important antenna interference source detection issues and serves as the basis for subsequent research. We introduce YOLO-Ant, a lightweight CNN and transformer hybrid detector specifically designed for antenna interference source detection. Specifically, we initially formulated a lightweight design for the network depth and width, ensuring that subsequent investigations were conducted within a lightweight framework. Then, we propose a DSLK-Block module based on depthwise separable convolution and large convolution kernels to enhance the network’s feature extraction ability, effectively improving small object detection. To address challenges such as complex backgrounds and large interclass differences in antenna detection, we construct DSLKVit-Block, a powerful feature extraction module that combines DSLK-Block and transformer structures. Considering both its lightweight design and accuracy, our method not only achieves optimal performance on the antenna dataset but also yields competitive results on public datasets.
