In this paper, we present a novel contribution to the problem of the detection of potential anomalous cosmic rays particle tracks acquired by Earth-scale complex distributed observatory infrastructure. Detection of such signals provides an opportunity to analyze the performance of the entire research infrastructure of a complex system (for example, potential failures) and a chance to record unknown physical phenomena that can be recorded simultaneously with space radiation observations. The observatory comprises a worldwide network of CMOS detectors cooperating in the citizen science paradigm. We propose, evaluate, and compare several data processing, feature extractions, and potential anomaly discovery pipelines based on machine learning approaches. Although, to date, there have already been published works performing detection and analysis of anomalies in the Cosmic Ray Extremely Distributed Observatory Project (CREDO) dataset, they applied single methods without comparing the results with other possible approaches to analyze potential anomalies. In this work, for the first time, we have used and discussed many anomalous discovery approaches not previously applied to this issue to perform analysis of this extensive dataset (nearly 600,000 images). For this reason, the results published here are of significant cognitive importance to the problem under consideration. This paper describes a new technique for removing impulsive noise in digital color images. The proposed method uses a measure of the pixel distortion caused by the impulsive noise, expressed as the sum of the Euclidean distances between the central pixel and its closest neighbors in the filtering window. This corruption measure is used to determine a weighted average of the pixels from the local neighborhood that is not affected by the distorted pixels. The filtering output is obtained using a soft switching scheme, where the denoising result is determined as a weighted average of the central pixel of a processing window and its robust estimate. The weighting coefficient is calculated based on the amount of distortion of the central pixel. Thus, if the central pixel is highly distorted, it is replaced by its robust estimate, otherwise it is not significantly changed. The parameters that determine the image enhancement result are adaptively adjusted by using a noise-resistant image contrast measure. The proposed filter design is able to effectively suppress impulsive noise while preserving fine image details and edges. Comparison with existing algorithms shows that the proposed method provides better denoising results than the most efficient filters designed for impulsive noise suppression in color images. Moreover, the new method is very fast and can be used in real-time denoising scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a novel approach to the problem of mixed Gaussian and impulsive noise reduction in color images is proposed. The elaborated denoising framework is based on the Non-Local Means technique, which has been shown to effectively suppress Gaussian noise. To overcome the inability of this filter to deal with impulsive distortions, a robust similarity measure between image patches, that is insensitive to the impact of impulsive distortions, was developed. First, the distorted pixels of the image are detected using the concept of a peer group. If the number of neighbors of a pixel at the center of a filtering window, whose Euclidean distance in the RGB color space does not exceed a threshold value, is smaller than a predefined value, then the considered pixel is treated as corrupted. Afterwards, the similarity between image patches are calculated in a standard way omitting the noisy pixels. In this way, only the average of distances between pairs of unaffected pixels are calculated. Thus, the closeness measure of the patches, which serves as the coefficient in weighted averaging of pixels in the processing block, is not affected by impulsive noise and is still able to cope with the Gaussian noise component. The proposed filtering design is capable of reducing even strong mixed noise while preserving image details and edges. Moreover, it is not computationally intensive, so it can be used in real-time image processing scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, a variety of new frameworks streamlining the process of agent-based modeling has emerged. These frameworks serve different purposes and each offers a unique set of features. In this practical comparative study, we evaluate the performance of various ABM frameworks through a series of benchmark simulations. By comparing the distinct functionalities offered by these tools, we aim to assist in the selection of an appropriate ABM toolkit for developing system models. This article presents a description of research that has led to the development of a new design permanent magnet machine. The machine is based on the operational principle of the transverse-flux machine (TFM). In the proposed solution, a core commonly used in radial flux machines was employed, significantly simplifying the construction of the TFM machine. This simultaneously reduces flux leakage and enhances the value of the developed electromagnetic torque. The article sequentially outlines the stages of research on the new design, ranging from analytical calculations through Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation to the construction of a machine prototype. © 2024 IEEE.

Internet of things (IoT) has opened new horizons in connecting all sorts of devices to the internet. However, continuous demand for connectivity increases the cybersecurity risks, rendering IoT devices more prone to cyberattacks. At the same time, rapid advances in Deep Learning (DL)-based algorithms provide state-of-the-art results in many classification tasks, including classification of network traffic or system logs. That said, deep learning algorithms are considered computationally expensive as they require substantial processing and storage capacity. Sadly, IoT devices have limited resources, making renowned DL models hard to implement in this environment. In this paper we present a Residual Neural Network inspired DL-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that incorporates weight pruning to make the model more compact in size and resource consumption. Additionally, the proposed system leverages feature selection algorithms to reduce the feature-space size. The model was trained on the NSL-KDD dataset benchmark. Experimental results show that the proposed system is effective, being able to classify network traffic with an F1 score of up to 98.9% before the pruning and an F1 score of up to 97.5% after pruning 90% of network weights. © 2023 Polish Information Processing Society.

This paper reports on ongoing and innovative research in the area of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). A classical XAI task is considered as finding an explanation of the model generated via Machine Learning by identifying the most influential variables for local decision-making. Such an approach suffers from severe limitations. The proposed approach moves the explanatory process to a new, knowledge-level dimension. It is oriented towards Model Discovery, i.e. the internal structure and functions of the components. The concept of Model-Driven XAI is put forward and explained with examples. An experiment on Function Discovery via Grammatical Evolution is reported in brief. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2024.

This elaboration presents the synthesis of the Takagi-Sugeno type Fuzzy Logic controller realizing the programmable parameters of the state feedback controller together with the steady state current for the active magnetic levitation system. Closed-loop dynamics was calculated precisely with respect to the requested dynamics. Two cases were considered: fixed-and variable-closed-loop dynamics. The Fuzzy Logic Controller was considered under four scenarios with linear, nonlinear, and constant in-range output. The study was supported by simulations and experimental investigations. During the last decade, the use of social media has exploded. One of the internet’s most popular and accessible social media sites is Twitter in which people can have micro-blog to post their views on any subject, called a tweet. Indonesia becomes one of country which has the most active user of social media. On the other side, Indonesia has experienced a great deal of natural disasters because it is located in a pacific ring of fire. It is needed effective disaster management used in Indonesia, especially with the help of social media data. Big data analysis obtained during turbulent and unorganized emergency situations is the perfect fit for effective management. During a disaster, it is vital to manage the proper decision to help people affected with their needs. This research investigated some methods used in social media analysis and then apply deep learning model for supervised tasks which classify the related and unrelated disasters on tweet datasets and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) for unsupervised learning which extracts the details category on the disaster Twitter data. The LSTM model architecture obtained a higher score accuracy than CNN. Moreover, the LDA topic modeling obtained potential results on the details topic from the datasets which could describe useful information to help disaster management. © 2023 IEEE.

This article is fulfilled within the framework of Erasmus+ project "The Future is in Applied Artificial Intelligence"(FAAI) and examines the study of practical solutions implemented using applied artificial intelligence. The research was done by preparing an online survey containing a total of 7 questions, open and closed. The purpose of the study is to find real working applications of applied artificial intelligence projects, describe their application in what field, and record the name of the projects found to describe their activity. The study was done by looking at cases all over the world. The analysis of the data provides insight in several directions:-in which countries are more real cases of artificial intelligence solutions used-what is the distribution of realized cases-depending on whether the country is a member of the EU or not EU.-In what category is the real case developed.-whether the country of the real case works in collaboration with other countries or implements the real case only the *** research and analysis done provide a clear picture of the developed projects using artificial intelligence. The obtained results will guide in what areas to organize the practical training. Also, the research would help future AI application developers. © 2023 IEEE.
