The separation of coal material of three types of coals originating from three various Polish hard coal mines (types 31, 34.2 and 35, according to Polish nomenclature, which were steam coal, semi-coking coal and coking coal) into particle size fractions and then into particle density fractions was done and then the following parameters were measured for each particle size-density fraction: combustion heat, ash contents, sulfur contents, volatile parts contents, analytic moisture. In this way a 7-dimensional vector of data was created. Using methods of factor analysis the important features of coal were selected, which decide about their membership to individual types. To evaluate the appropriateness of the applied method the Bartlett's sphericity test as well coefficient of Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin (KMO) were used. To select important factors the Kaiser criterion and Cattell's scree test were used. The obtained results were compared with the results obtained in previous works by means of observation tunnels method. The results showed which particular features are crucial to define the type of coal what is also important to select appropriate method of its enrichment. © IMPC 2018 - 29th International Mineral Processing Congress. Advanced driving-assistance systems (ADAS) have become more popular and received more aid in automotive business. ADAS systems evolution requires more efforts to prepare efficient and reliable systems. Because of safety restrictions we need to validate systems by driving over several million kilometers in different conditions. That is why research, development and verification processes are highly required. The best solution to solve this problem are computer simulations. Application of digital scenarios saves time, money and human resources. There are many simulators which are developed by automotive companies. In our paper we would like to present set of simulators which are used to simulate and validate camera sensors, control and path planning algorithms for ADAS. Our tools are able to simulate/emulate vehicle components and road environment elements. However, mainly in case of ADAS systems this is a difficult task. Our paper presents approaches the methodology of virtual simulations [1].

Long term monitoring of patients health condition is a useful diagnostic method however it still remains challenging to apply. Prolonged electrocardiographic monitoring and early diagnosis of arrhythmias enables the introduction of appropriate treatment prolonging life expectancy. Nevertheless the market demand is focused on wearable solutions which do not require to stick electrodes to skin. In this research we developed samples of material and evaluated them for suitability in electrophysiological measurements. Favorable conductive properties were achieved by polymer composite containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes and Ag nanoparticles. ECG signals were recorded in limb leads configuration using M-TRACE Electrocardiograph device. As a reference standard metal electrodes were used. The examination was conducted in two variants: with and without conductive gel. The signals were then compared and approved by a professional physician as fully diagnostable. Finally, the research revealed that, when comparing to reference electrodes, the signals recorded with designed electrodes in dry conditions featured 27% higher amplitude and 60% higher baseline noise whilst in wet conditions (when using conductivegel): 23% and 55% respectively. Finally the results showed that designed material features antimicrobial properties (against S. aureus, E. coli).

In linear resistor-inductor circuits, minimization of source rms current according to S. Fryze causes increase of total harmonic distortion (THD) and increase of source active powers resulting from higher harmonics of voltage and current. The authors of the present paper have proposed a method of the reduction of THD and rms value of the source current on the basis of the components of instantaneous power of the source. It has been demonstrated that the even component of that power secures a supply of the given active power from the source to the load. The odd component may be excluded from the instantaneous power of the source. Components of instantaneous power are the sums of the products of the even and odd components of source voltage and current. On the basis of these sums the voltage and current components have been determined, the compensation of which enables excluding the odd component of source instantaneous power, and in the same way- reduction of THD and rms value of the source current. The authors of the paper have presented the way of making use of the method in the situation when supply voltage is only odd or even function. It has been found out that it is possible to reduce THD of the source current several times in relation to THD of the source current while minimizing the source rms current according to Fryze, with negligible increase in the effective value of the source current in relation to the minimum value. Decrease of THD also causes significant decrease of active power of the source caused by higher harmonics of voltage and current.

Robust fault detection, location, and recovery of damaged data using linear regression and mathematical models

A new method using linear regression and mathematical models is proposed for fault detection, location and the recovery (FDIR) of damaged data. Linear regression was used to identify the mathematical model of the system from source data. For this reason the paper focuses on the class of fault whose impact on the system causes that the measured data are differ from the expected values. Based on the mathematical model of the process developed during identification from source data, the damage area can be pre-located, using proposed recurrence algorithm of fault recovery (FR) we can exactly estimated expected value on the damage area. Based on estimated expected value the damage area can be precisely located and the class of faults can be estimated. This paper proposes an innovative approach to recurrence self-tuning of fault recovery (FR) from parts incomplete or damaged data of the pre-allocated area. © 2018

The design of wearable sensors and development of novel wireless radio protocols drive advances in the assisted living technology which is a promising approach in terms of future domestic healthcare. In this paper we propose the system architecture for vital signs monitoring in home conditions. The prototype device is based on the microcontroller supporting Bluetooth Low Energy which may be used for medical data transfer in assisted living applications. We developed a respiration rate sensor and thermometer pickup to provide basic measurements of physiological signals. We tested a range of proposed wireless system in urban conditions. The temperature and respiration rate was then recorded to verify the system operation. We measured the power consumption to evaluate the low energy performance of the device which is vital aspect of the telemedical wearable system.

Modern cars are full of embedded systems that control cars' components. For diagnostics purposes On-Board Diagnostics (ODB) is used. ODB can be used to read variety of car parameters. The paper describes how such a data collecting environment can be build and how to obtain real data from a car. It contains preliminary results of data analysis that were gathered from a car with malfunctioning thermostat. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a wearable multi-sensor solution for monitoring daily activities, with an expanded respiratory part. The solution is based on a set of wearable sensors and microcontroller-based acquisition unit with both analog and digital sensor interfaces. The designed wearable device enables acquisition of the following signals: Single-lead ECG, respiration signal, body and ambient temperature, barometric pressure, light intensity and acceleration. Two separate wearable respiration sensors were designed based on a conductive thread and a piezo film element. In the experimental part, the signals were recorded during selected activities of daily life (ADL). The evaluation of the wearable breathing sensors showed that all breaths were detected correctly. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the developed hardware can be successfully integrated into a wearable health monitoring system for ADL activity monitoring. Additionally, it can be a valuable platform for educational engineering purposes due to its compatibility with Arduino and standard sensor interfaces. Several limitations and drawbacks of the designed system have also been identified. © 2018 Warsaw University of Technology.

The article demonstrates the usefulness of heterogeneous System on Chip (SoC) devices in smart cameras used in intelligent transportation systems (ITS). In a compact, energy efficient system the following exemplary algorithms were implemented: vehicle queue length estimation, vehicle detection, vehicle counting and speed estimation (using multiple virtual detection lines), as well as vehicle type (local binary features and SVM classifier) and colour (k-means classifier and YCbCr colourspace analysis) recognition. The solution exploits the hardware–software architecture, i.e. the combination of reconfigurable resources and the efficient ARM processor. Most of the modules were implemented in hardware, using Verilog HDL, taking full advantage of the possible parallelization and pipeline, which allowed to obtain real-time image processing. The ARM processor is responsible for executing some parts of the algorithm, i.e. high-level image processing and analysis, as well as for communication with the external systems (e.g. traffic lights controllers). The demonstrated results indicate that modern SoC systems are a very interesting platform for advanced ITS systems and other advanced embedded image processing, analysis and recognition applications. © 2016, The Author(s).
