In an electric drive with a three-phase PM BLDC motor, tasks of PWM modulation and six-step or twelve-step commutation of phases are usually combined and carried out by an MCU or CPU-controlled MOSFET or IGBT transistor bridge. That approach cuts down electronic element count, decreases size and price of the inverter and reduces power losses. However, at the same time it can also give rise to an undesired phenomenon of a spontaneous synchronisation (locking) between the motor rotational speed and the PWM frequency. An inverter-motor drive system may behave like an unintended phase-locked loop (PLL), endeavouring to keep a constant ratio between the six-step commutation frequency and the PWM modulation frequency. Resulting nonlinearity, discontinuity, hysteresis and nonuniqueness of the drive unit mechanical characteristic makes it difficult to develop a controller algorithm. The paper shows this unexpected and unwanted effect and investigates its causes.

This article presents a method for determining the distribution of ground short-circuits in high voltage substations, in particular determining the value of currents flowing into substations grounding. Knowledge of these currents is important to assess the risk of electric shock hazard within the substation area. The EMTP-ATP program was used in the research, in which the structure of the analyzed systems was created. The results of calculations made for a selected high voltage substation in various work configurations are presented.
The subject of the article is a simulation of heat affected components of a device for deep drawing by extreme conditions in vacuum by high temperatures required for forming of crystallization containers made from thi...

Fault detection in process condition monitoring aims to declare anomalies strayed from the operation expectancy. With the number of variables increasing, the complexity of detection task grows quickly. The algorithm, Binary Classifier for Fault Detection (BaFFle), is devised to employ Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce the number of variables and to detect the occurrences of fault over each distinct component using corresponding operation model. In this way, BaFFIe converts a multivariate detection task into several univariate problems. Since the observations of a steady-state system are supposed to subject to certain probability distribution, the normal operation model is represented by probability distribution. In the original BaFFIe algorithm, measured data is assumed Gaussian distribtued. In order to get rid of the strong assumption in BaFFIe, an improved BaFFIe is proposed in this paper to estimate the distribution model by Kernel Density Estimation (KDE). A main advance of KDE is attributed to the non-parametric way of estimating probability distribution, resulting in a data-driven estimator. Experiments using real data from a multiphase flow rig proved the validation of KDE-based BaFFIe. From the practice perspective, BaFFIe has the potential of being applied to operation systems with non-Gaussian distributions.

The paper presents the procedure of experimental derivation of an acoustic two-port scattering matrix for a multimode wave propagating, for example, in a muffler of a complicated design, applying the single-mode generator. The self-designed single-mode generator is constructed in the form of a matrix of acoustic monopoles and is capable to generate a selected single mode. The scattering matrix formalism is a new approach to analyse the acoustical systems containing one or more duct-like elements (joints) connected by some undefined elements such as, for example, acoustic mufflers of different types and so the formalism is frequently applied to analyse the phenomena of noise reduction in such systems. Experimental derivation of the scattering matrix for a wave composed of N modes demands, in general, excitation of N different sound fields at each side of the two-port first. Finally the matrix composed of the modal pressures measurements obtained for each of the exited fields must be inversed to obtain the scattering matrix. Generating single N modes the matrix of the incoming pressure data is, theoretically, diagonal which makes derivation of the scattering matrix much easier. Generation of independent sound fields in the shape of single modes ensures the matrix to be well conditioned.

This paper concerns solvers for time fractional differential equations in Matlab and Octave. The main analysis revolves around a time step size adaptive solver basing on the numerical method called SubIval. The basis of SubIval is explained and formulae for the step size adaptivity are given. The solver is compared with others basing on: fractional linear multistep methods, product integration rules and the Grunwald-Letnikov approximation.
