In this paper some results of the research works are presented, especially focusing on energy savings in street lighting installations and possibilities of remote lamp monitoring and control, lamp maintenance and reducing the cost of maintenance. The research is based on a system using the LonWorks technology - an open standard of distributed building automation systems, with the power line communication in the field level. A new approach to development of control scenarios and algorithms for such systems and installations has been proposed as well.

This paper presents an effective method of input referred noise minimization (IRN) of recording stages dedicated to neurobiology experiments and processed in submicron or nanometer technologies. We analyze different approaches for IRN minimization and propose solution based on the on-chip analogue noise averaging. The proposed approach allows for almost 2.5 times IRN minimization with only 8 time power consumption increase whereas other on-chip analogue methods provides much less noise minimization efficiency. The method is confirmed by measurements of 8-channel integrated circuit fabricated in 180nm commercial process. The chip is composed of the 8-recording channels that are individually digitally assisted for enlarging IC functionality. The recording part is divided into two separate channels, i.e. an Action Potential (AP) stage and a Local Field Potential (LFP) stage. The voltage gain of the AP and LFP stages can be switched between 56/50 dB and 50/45 dB respectively. Corner frequencies of a particular stages can be digitally controlled in a wide range, i.e. the upper cut-off frequency can be changed in the 20 Hz - 2 kHz (LFP stage) while the lower cut-off frequency can be tuned at the 120 mHz - 3 kHz (LFP and AP stage). The upper cut-off frequency of the AP stage is equal to 6.9 kHz. A single recording channel is supplied from ±0.9 V and consumes about 4.8 μW of power. For a default channel configuration the Input Referred Noise is equal to 5.6 μV resulting in 4.38 of Noise Efficiency Factor (NEF) while for on-chip averaging mode enabled the IRN can be limited to 2.4 μV resulting in 5.3 of NEF.

This paper presents Common Mode Rejection Ratio's (CMRR) measurement results of a multichannel integrated circuit dedicated to the recording neurobiological signals and shows the design method that allows for CMRR improvement in multichannel architectures. A 64-channel Neuro-Stimulation-Recording chip named NRS64 is processed in CMOS 180nm technology. The measurements are followed by the detailed analysis of effects that may cause a CMRR deterioration. The simulation results of these effects are also presented and discussed. Additionally, the method improving the CMRR is presented that allows to increase both the CMRR and its uniformity from channel to channel. Furthermore, the design of a prototype multichannel integrated circuit is presented where proposed method was applied. The chip was designed in a 180nm CMOS process.

The paper presents an extension of theoretical, numerical, and experimental studies carried out by the authors on modal structure of the acoustic field inside a hard-walled cylindrical duct and the directivity characteristics of sound radiated outside such structure. The analysis included acoustic field distribution inside the duct corresponding to mathematical models of the infinite (anechoic terminations on both sides) and the semi-infinite (anechoic termination only on the source side) unbaffled cylindrical waveguide. The investigations were aimed at qualitative and quantitative determination of the modal structure of the sound field and verification of consistency of the obtained measurement data with theoretical predictions by means of solving the corresponding inverse problem. Acoustic pressure values measured on selected cross-sections of two cylindrical waveguide models (with radii of 149 mm) were used to solve the inverse problem and determine amplitudes of individual modes. The experimental setup was excited with a multi-frequency signal from which some specific frequencies were selected in such a way that they fell between cut-off frequencies of consecutive modes. As the sound pressure distributions obtained in the preliminary series of measurements revealed some divergence with respect to theoretical predictions, special emphasis was put on the microphone positioning accuracy in the next stage of the experiment which finally improved the obtained results. In order to investigate the effect of presence of the measuring probe with a % inch microphone on the sound pressure distribution inside the duct, the far field outside the duct model was measured in two cases-with and without the probe inside. The paper is concluded with analysis of the error introduced by the measuring probe.

In this paper the semantic analysis procedures will be adopted for data understanding tasks using cognitive financial systems. Cognitive financial systems, which semantically analyze the financial situation of particular enterprise, execute their tasks using semantic information available to them. The basic operation of financial cognitive systems consists in both the semantic analysis of the situation of the company described by various ratios, and the assessment of the present and future situation of this enterprise. That is why cognitive economics and semantic algorithms are geared towards the semantic analysis of the financial situation of enterprises carried out by means of an in-depth description, an analysis, a reasoning and a projection of the condition of enterprises.

Organization of a tender is not easy. Preparation of the relevant specification, taking into account the non-price criteria, implementation of the objective and fair assessment procedure, and last but not least, selecting a satisfactory offer are in practice a considerable challenge. In meeting this challenge appropriate multi-criteria assessment models can help. Models that can cope with different kinds of tangible and intangible criteria. The paper presents the hierarchical bid assessment (HBA) model of making decision in a tender procedure based on the pairwise comparisons method. It combines structural elements known from AHP with the Heuristic Rating Estimation approach. Two different schemes of rating tangible and intangible attributes are proposed. The notion of the success of the customer is defined and the practical method for its use is proposed. Theoretical considerations are illustrated in the relevant example.

This X-ray angiography is the current gold standard for morphology based diagnosis of coronary arteries due to their spatial and temporal resolution. Transit time methods are applied on coronary angiograms to estimate the interval of time required for the contrast material to traverse the distance between two regions of interest. They represent an important prerequisite for estimating blood flow parameters like velocity or flow rate which characterize the hemodynamic patterns of blood vessels. In this article we perform an analysis of ten different transit time estimation methods on routine clinical angiographic data acquired at the Clinical Emergency Hospital of Bucharest by using the time density curves. Different coronary arteries are considered and the analysis is performed on raw data, filtered data and fitted data. The most robust methods are the mean transit time, the mean arrival time and the cross correlation method. Furthermore, the mean transit time and the cross correlation method tend to underestimate, while the rise time method tends to overestimate the transit time. Automated filtering and fitting methods improve the results significantly and should always be used in conjunction with transit time estimation methods.

Parametric optimization of a neutral system with two delays and PD-controller

In this paper a parametric optimization problem for a linear neutral system with two delays with an integral quadratic performance index is formulated and solved. The method of computing of a performance index value bases on determining of a Lyapunov functional defined on a state space such that its value for an initial state is equal to a performance index value. In the paper a form of a Lyapunov functional is assumed and a method of computing its coefficients is given. An example illustrating the application of discussed theory is presented. It concerns the system with a PD-controller designed to control a plant with two delays both retarded and neutral type. For such system a value of considered performance index is determined.

We report on the design of an integrated circuit operating in a single photon counting mode for readout of hybrid pixel detectors. The prototype IC was designed and fabricated in CMOS 130 nm technology and consists of 23552 square shaped pixels of 75 μm pitch. Each pixels consists of charge sensitive amplifier, shaper, two discriminators and two 14-bit counters. Additionally each pixel contains also novel key blocks for offset and gain trimming. The prototype IC works with two energy thresholds in the readout mode separate from exposure. In a continuous mode (with a zero dead time) the IC operates with single threshold. The readout pixel has an equivalent noise charge of 89 e- rms and dissipates only 25 μW. Tests prove exceptional uniformity of IC: an offset spread below 12e- rms and a gain spread of only 3%.

In this paper comparison of the two innovative signal processing methods for analysis of both EEG and EMG biomedical signals is in short presented. The reason for that is caused by the fact, that nowadays the broad analysis of various biomedical signals is extremely popular. The first method presented in this paper relies on kernel density estimators application. Implementation of such method enables construction of densitograms for the examined bio-signals. One of the biggest advantages of this method is that it allows to obtain statistically filtered signals, which results in making the whole signal processing task significantly quicker. The second method described in this paper is based on basic mathematical operations only. Despite its simplicity the whole process can be implemented on almost any hardware platform, including those with very limited computational capabilities. Also it makes the task quick. In accordance with the conducted experiments - the method is also efficient and as it can also be implemented on embedded platform and the algorithm can be rewritten in any programming language, the potential application of this method is wide.
